Welcome to National Milk Day!

National Milk Day on January 11 commemorates the day that many think the first milk deliveries in glass bottles began in the United States. Alexander Campbell of the New York Dairy Company professed to the New York State Senate that his company was the first to make these deliveries in 1878.

Here is some milk trivia that you can share with your family and friends:

— The United States and Australia are the world’s largest exporters of milk and milk products.
— Throughout the world, there are more than 6 billion consumers of milk and milk products.
— In the Middle Ages, milk was called the virtuous white liquor because alcoholic beverages were more reliable than water.
— 1863 – French chemist and biologist Louis Pasteur invented pasteurization, a method of killing harmful bacteria in beverages and food products.
— 1884 – American Doctor Hervey Thatcher of New York City, developed the first modern glass milk bottle, called ‘Thatcher’s Common Sense Milk Jar,’ which was sealed with a waxed paper disk. Later, in 1932, plastic-coated paper milk cartons were introduced commercially as a consequence of their invention by Victor W. Farris.

SU’s offense still needs to find its rhythm

Stage being set for 107-day bowling tournament coming to Syracuse (video) (PS video; Greenlar)

The ball is rolling for the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships in Syracuse, which will run from late March to early July.

The USBC Open Championships will bring in up to $75 million to the local economy with 35,000 bowlers competing for a prize fund expected to approach $5 million.

The 2018 tournament will last for 107 days, concluding July 8. The custom-built 48-lane venue also will play host to the USBC Masters from April 8-15, reuniting the two events for the first time since 2011.

The Open Championships last was held in Syracuse in 1999, and the upcoming return will mark the fifth time the event has traveled to the Salt City. It also was held there in 1935, 1958 and 1973.

The transformation of the Oncenter Convention Center got underway Dec. 11 and includes vendor and office space, scale room and squad room, locker and concessions areas and seating for hundreds of friends, family and bowling fans.

The entry deadline for the event now will be March 24 to coincide with the start of competition.

The only person who could contain (Michel Jordan) Tyler Roberson, was (Dean Smith) Jim Boeheim. ;)

Glad to see him doing well.
Sorry we didn't see more of that fluidity and confidence on O here.
