Welcome to National Public Sleeping Day!

Catch a few winks or take a long nap in public to celebrate Public Sleeping Day on February 28. Definitely one of the more quirky made-up holidays we have seen, Public Sleeping Day or National Public Sleeping Day as it is also known, encourages people to commune with nature by sleeping outdoors in public.

How does the NCAA Tournament quadrant system work? (video) (PS; video; Axe)

Have you been wondering why the word "quadrant" has been used so much lately when discussing the Syracuse University basketball team?

You've come to the right place.

The video above explains what the quadrant system is and the role it will play in determining the 2018 NCAA Tournament fate of the Orange.

Entering Wednesday night's game against Boston College, Syracuse sits on the NCAA Tournament bubble with an overall record of 18-11 (7-9) and one of the first four teams out according to the Bracket Matrix.

Syracuse has a 2-7 record against teams that fit the Quadrant 1 standard with a 4-2 mark against teams in Quadrant 2.

Boston College falls into the Quadrant 2 category while Clemson, SU's last 2017-18 regular season opponent who comes to the Carrier Dome on Saturday, is a Quadrant 1 opponent.

NIT to experiment with new rules: How could it help or hurt Syracuse? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Dickinson)

Syracuse basketball still has two regular season games and the ACC Tournament to prove it deserves a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but there is also a very real possibility SU plays in the NIT for the second straight season. If that is the case, the Orange won’t be playing the same basketball it has for the past four months. The tournament is experimenting with rule changes for the third time in four years, and they could change Syracuse’s strategy and strength if it plays in the NIT.

Three-point line extended to FIBA distance

The NIT will be making threes a bit harder to hit this year. 1 foot and 8 inches harder, to be exact. The NIT will extend it’s three-point line to 22 feet, 1.75 inches, the standard used by FIBA for international play. Putting the basket any further away from Syracuse shooters is always a bad thing, as the Orange shooting has fallen off this season. Nobody on SU shoots at better than 35 percent from behind the arc, and the team shoots less than 31 percent as a whole. Syracuse has a difficult enough time getting past the perimeter at its current distance – it doesn’t need any more challenges.

Winter storm barrels toward Upstate NY: Heavy snow possible (PS; Coin)

A strong winter storm headed for the East Coast could drop up to a foot of snow on parts of Upstate New York Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm watches for most of Upstate New York beginning overnight Thursday and lasting all day Friday.

"Difficult travel conditions are possible, including during the morning commute on Friday," the watch said. "Gusty winds and wet heavy snow could cause tree branches to fall. Significant reductions in visibility are possible."

Five to 10 inches of snow is possible along the Lake Ontario shoreline, and up to a foot in the hills south of Syracuse.

"Total snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, with localized amounts up to 12 inches in the higher terrain are possible" in Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison and Otsego counties, the weather service said.
