Welcome to National Oreo Cookie Day!

Today we celebrate the best-selling cookie in the United States, the Oreo. It can be eaten by itself but is often paired with milk. It can be used to make cakes, milkshakes, and other desserts, and can even be deep fried. Made up of two chocolate disks and white cream filling, the original name for the cookie was the "Oreo Biscuit." It looked similar to today's Oreo, although over time there have been small changes to both the chocolate disks and the cream. The cream used today was created by Sam Procello, who was Nabisco's "principal scientist," known as "Mr. Oreo." The current design of the cookie has been in place since 1952. Oreos were created by Nabisco and first sold on March 6, 1912—the same date as National Oreo Cookie Day—by grocer S.C. Thuesen in Hoboken, New Jersey. Nabisco applied for a trademark on March 14, 1912, and received it on August 12, 1913.

Syracuse basketball vs. Wake Forest in ACC Tournament: 10 things to watch for (PS; Waters)

The 2018 ACC Tournament begins on Tuesday in Brooklyn. The Syracuse Orange will be part of the first-round action as it takes on Wake Forest at 7 p.m.

Syracuse (19-12 overall, 8-10 ACC) enters the ACC Tournament with work to do if the Orange hopes to earn an NCAA Tournament bid. Syracuse has to beat Wake Forest just to stay in the NCAA conversation.

On top of all that, add this: Syracuse has never won an ACC Tournament game since joining the league back in 2014.

Syracuse split the season series with Wake Forest, which finished the regular season with an 11-19 record (4-14 ACC). Wake Forest won the first meeting 73-67 in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Jan. 3. Syracuse won the rematch 78-70 at the Carrier Dome on Feb. 11.

The Syracuse-Wake Forest winner will meet North Carolina at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Is There Any Magic Left in the Syracuse Season? – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; D.A.)

Being a Syracuse fan this season has been a struggle. The Orange has had its ups and downs, and they has never given the supporters in Central New York reason to feel comfortable. Was the Clemson victory the “big win,” the one that sparks the hope in fans that the season isn’t over?

Entering the ACC tournament, SU finished just 8-10 in conference this year, playing the kind of offense that makes fans’ blood boil. Their shooting has been poor, and their lack of offensive movement has been a glaring problem from the start. In fact, this might be Jim Boeheim’s worst offense in his 42 seasons.

But hope lies in the impossible becoming possible, like the Cinderella Final Four team a few years ago. The Clemson win shows they can still beat good teams on their day, which is why basketball fans who regularly bet with Stakers on the NCAA find them a tempting proposition. However, they can just as easily lose bad games to bad teams, like the 15-point shellacking at Boston College. Home losses to St. Bonaventure, Notre Dame, and North Carolina State, along with road losses at Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, are hard to get past and they’ve left the Orange in a hole.

Syracuse men’s basketball roundtable: Everything to know before the ACC tournament (DOl Staff)

Syracuse (19-12, 8-10 Atlantic Coast) plays a rubber match with Wake Forest (11-19, 4-14) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Barclays Center in the first round of the ACC tournament. Syracuse has historically struggled in Brooklyn, but will need to exorcise its demons and likely go on a mini run if it hopes to make the NCAA Tournament.

Our beat writers take on three questions surrounding the Orange ahead of the conference tournament.

Syracuse split with Wake Forest during the regular season. What does Syracuse need to do to fend off a pesky Demon Deacons team?

Matthew Gutierrez: First, overcome whatever sort of ghosts lie under the Barclays Center floor that have doomed Syracuse, because SU has lost four in a row at that place. Fellow beat writer Tomer Langer, a native of the area, may know the answer.
Aside from that, all the Orange really has to do is stick to its identity, which was on full display Saturday in its first win against a ranked opponent this season, as junior point guard Frank Howard pointed out. That’s strong defense — remember WFU’s six-straight 3-pointers? — and reliance on the big three scorers.

A Syracuse woman won $50 on a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket and decided to reinvest it to buy a "$350,000,000 Cash Spectacular" scratch-off ticket.

That turned out to be a great investment. The woman won the $10 million jackpot, which was the top prize on the $30 scratch-off ticket.

The ticket was purchased at the Tops Friendly Markets located at 620 Nottingham Road in Syracuse.

The winner's identity has not been released.

Lottery's Yolanda Vega will present a $10 million ceremonial prize check to the woman on Tuesday morning at the grocery store.

The "$350,000,000 Cash Spectacular" card offers players a chance to win up to $10 million and offers more than $350 million in cash prizes for the game. As of Monday there are still three top prize winning tickets unclaimed and three $250,000 second-prize winning tickets available.

The chance of winning the $10 million jackpot is 1 in 3,312,480, according to the lottery.
