Welcome to Panda Day!

Pandas are big fluffy balls of fan wearing a tuxedo! Everyone knows what a panda looks like, and no one hates them. (You, in the back, the panda hater, you’re invited to leave planet Earth at any time) These cuddly little tumblers are especially known for their prodigious appetites that give them the ability to consume massive amounts of bamboo. Panda Day is dedicated to spreading awareness about this majestic teddy-bears of nature, spreading the word that deforestation is leading to the destruction of their habitats, and has placed them on the endangered animal list.

Carmelo Anthony gets roasted by Jimmy Butler for celebrating SU basketball win (PS; Burrows)

Carmelo Anthony left Syracuse in 2003 after winning a national championship but has remained a vocal fan ever since.

The former Orange star made an Instagram post celebrating SU's win over Arizona State in the NCAA Tournament Wednesday night and was immediately roasted by Minnesota Timberwolves star Jimmy Butler.

"Squad Up One Down!!! Sorry @jharden13" Anthony wrote on Instagram.

The post celebrated Wednesday night's win as well as trolled Houston Rockets star James Harden for his final NCAA game, where SU beat Harden's Sun Devils 78-67 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Syracuse basketball is one of 1st to try new NCAA Tournament celebration (video) (PS; Carlson)

Back in April, the NCAA announced it would adopt The Basketball Tournament's postgame bracket celebration.

In that tournament, a player from the winning team move his team's name ahead on a giant bracket.

The NCAA thought this was a great idea and Tyus Battle got to do the honors after Syracuse's 60-56 win over Arizona State in a First Four game on Wednesday.

Check out the celebration above.

Arizona State Basketball: Sun Devil’s season ends on sour note after Syracuse loss (bustingbrackets.com; Cavallaro)

The Arizona State Sun Devils lost a tightly contested matchup against Syracuse in the First Four. What went wrong in their lone postseason game?

Arizona State had an opportunity to turn their late-season woes around but lost to Syracuse by four points, 60-56. The Sun Devils got a great potential go-ahead look by Shannon Evans, but the miss ended their topsy-turvy season.

Three-pointers were falling for Arizona State, especially at the beginning of the second half where they extended their lead to seven points. The big three of Tra Holder, Shannon Evans, and Kodi Justice contributed most of the offense and combined for 11 made threes.

Arizona State did a much better job in the second half of moving the ball and sending cutters through the Syracuse zone. This led to some wide open looks from the perimeter and even some wide open dunks.

Tra Holder was also effective at puncturing the zone with the drive where he could find open teammates or slither his way to the rim. Mickey Mitchell repeatedly found himself open in the middle of the zone but was often too tentative to face the basket and attack. The one time he chose to attack, he made a crucial basket that pulled the Sun Devils within one point late in the game.

Arizona State did not get to the free throw line at their usual rate and, when they did earn a trip to the stripe, the result was not pretty. Shooting 3-10 from the line in a do or die game is not going to get the job done.

Boeheim, Dixon to meet again when TCU takes on Syracuse (pilotonline.com; AP)

No. 6 seed TCU (21-11) vs. No. 11 seed Syracuse (21-13)

First round, East Region; Detroit, 9:40 p.m. EDT on Friday

BOTTOM LINE: TCU coach Jamie Dixon faces a former conference rival in Syracuse's Jim Boeheim. Dixon was the coach at Pittsburgh from 2003-16. The Panthers were in the Big East with Syracuse, and then both teams were in the ACC together. Boeheim says this TCU team is better offensively than Dixon's teams at Pittsburgh generally were.

FINISHING STRONG: TCU won the NIT last year, so the last time the Horned Frogs ended the season with a loss was in 2016 when they lost to West Virginia in the Big 12 Tournament. Dixon took over the following season.

Veteran coaches for TCU, Syracuse keep it light as NCAA Tournament tightens up (star-telgram; Stevenson)

The temperature never moved north of the 30s on a dreary day in Detroit. By early Friday, it was expected to dip into the 20s.

But there was nothing but warmth and sunshine beaming from the TCU men's basketball team.

The Horned Frogs worked out and met the media at Little Caesars Arena in advance of their first NCAA tournament game since 1998.

No. 6 TCU (21-11) opens against Syracuse (21-13) at approximately 8:40 p.m. Friday on CBS.

TCU Basketball: Reactions from seniors, Dixon after open practice (frogsowar.com; Triebwasser)

TCU seniors Kenrich Williams, Vladimir Brodziansky, and Ahmed Hamdy, as well as head coach Jamie Dixon, met with the media after Thursday’s open practice to give their thoughts on the Frogs’ first appearance in March Madness in 20 years. Here is what they had to say.

Q. Just what can you say about Jamie Dixon as a head coach and what he’s done for this program and how he’s helped you to this point and back in the tournament?

KENRICH WILLIAMS: I think he’s a great coach. What he brought for our program is a winning mentality coming from Pitt. He’s been to the tournament many years. So he brought that back to TCU. And he was able to come in and teach us some things and really just guide us to get here at this point where we’re at right now.

Q. First impressions of Detroit, the weather, anything jump out at you?

KENRICH WILLIAMS: It’s cold. It’s way different from Texas.

AHMED HAMDY: It was snowing today.

Q. It was snowing or snow on the ground?

AHMED HAMDY: It was a little snow.

VLADIMIR BRODZIANSKY: Cold, but, you know, like home.

Q. Ahmed, you’re the only Frog with NCAA experience. Have you talked to your teammates about that and what to expect and how to prepare at all?

Syracuse's Jim Boeheim expects another challenge in TCU, Jamie Dixon (diehards.com; Staka)

TCU coach Jamie Dixon fared pretty well against Jim Boeheim and Syracuse during his 13-year run at Pittsburgh.

Dixon posted a 15-6 record against the Orange in his tenure with the Panthers — both longtime Big East rivals and now ACC foes. Dixon will now meet up with Boeheim once again on Friday after leading TCU to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998.

And while times have changed, Boeheim doesn’t expect it to be any less of a challenge in Detroit when he coaches against Dixon yet again. If anything, there’s an even bigger hurdle to climb.

According to ESPN’s Dan Murphy, Boeheim said on Thursday that TCU “is a “much better team offensively” than any Dixon-led Pittsburgh team that Syracuse ever faced.

Syracuse St. Patrick's Day Parade 2018: Wear winter coat, sunglasses (PS; Coin)

Dress warmly for the Syracuse St. Patrick's paradeon Saturday.

The latest forecast calls for a temperature of 28 degrees when the parade kicks off at noon. Strong northwest winds will make it feel like 16 degrees.

That's warmer than last year, though when the wind chill was about zero. That was the coldest parade weather on record.

There's a small chance of snow showers in the morning, but they're expected to be done by 9 a.m. By parade time, skies should be partly sunny.

The sun angle this time of year is similar to late summer, so you might need those sunglasses, too.
