Welcome to Appomattox Day!
Appomattox Day marks the date when the terms of surrender were signed to end the Civil War, after almost four years of fighting. Confederate commander Robert E. Lee had recently abandoned the Confederate capital, Richmond, as well as Petersburg, Virginia. His goal was to regroup his troops, who were low on supplies and food, and fight on. On April 8, his troops were almost completely surrounded near Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Still, on the following morning, the Confederates mounted an offensive under the command of Major General John B. Gordon. At first it was going well for the Confederates, but eventually they were turned back as they were outnumbered. General Lee is noted as saying, "There is nothing left me to do but to go and see Gen. Grant, and I would rather die a thousand deaths."

Oshae Brissett Seems to be Coming Back to Syracuse | Otto's Grove (.com; Kelly)
Well, here’s some good (if expected) news: Oshae Brissett is seemingly heading back to Syracuse for his sophomore season, per his Twitter account earlier today. Now, he didn’t come right out and say it, but it’s hard to look at his tweet and not gather that the only realistic meaning is that the 6-foot-8 forward is set on returning to the Hill.

And that’s good news, because while it was highly unlikely that Brissett would have been given any indication he’d be a first round selection this year, it wouldn’t have been surprising to see him at least test the waters and see how he measures up. Instead, it would appear he’s going to skip that part of the process and simply focus on getting better for his sophomore campaign.

How SU turns the Carrier Dome into a monster truck arena (DO; Dabbundo)
Seven years ago, Pete Sala, Syracuse University’s chief facilities officer, had an idea to increase the use of the Carrier Dome and house events outside of SU Athletics.
At the time, Monster Jam, a traveling monster truck exhibition, hosted an annual outdoor event at the nearby New York State Fairgrounds. Sala combined his enjoyment for the event with his desire to expand the Dome’s use to create a new tradition: Monster Jam in the Carrier Dome.
Sala worked in connection with Feld Entertainment to bring Monster Jam into the Dome. The two sides met in the summer of 2011 and agreed the stadium could handle the makeover and turnover required to pull off that type of event.
Now, the event is held annually in the Dome, bringing tens of thousands of fans to watch the oversized cars. The Dome, known best for its raucous environment during Syracuse sporting events, is transformed into a spectacle on dirt for fans to watch monster trucks go over jumps, crush cars and drive through the course. Monster Jam travels from city to city, putting on shows across the country. It arrived in Syracuse last week to set up the operation to transform the arena.
