Syracuse basketball has 5 non-conference games left to fill for 2018-19 schedule (PS; Waters)

The Syracuse basketball team will play 13 non-conference games in its 2018-19 and, at this point, there is just one definite opponent.

However, a process of deduction can lead to the conclusion that Syracuse has just five non-conference dates that remain open for next season.

Syracuse's lone known opponent in the non-conference portion of the schedule is Georgetown. The Hoyas are on the docket for the 2018-19 season as a continuation of an ongoing series between the two long-time rivals.

Last year, Syracuse rallied to beat Georgetown in overtime at the Capital One Center in Washington D.C., which means that the Hoyas will be coming to the Carrier Dome in the 2018-19 season.

If Tyus Battle remains in the NBA Draft, how will Syracuse replace his insane production? - ACCSports.com (accsports.com; Geisinger)

About 10 days ago, Syracuse star guard Tyus Battle declared for the 2018 NBA Draft. Battle, however, is yet to sign with an agent, which means he could still return to Syracuse for his junior season. This past weekend, a report trickled out that Battle received an invitation to the draft combinenext month (May 16-20) in Chicago.

There’s some variance in Battle’s draft stock; he appears to float between 20 and 40 in terms of pick range. In some places, he’s viewed as a late first round pick.

However, there’s no variance in the fact that in Battle stays in the draft that Syracuse will have to work hard to replace his impact and production.

Workload: Tyus Battle
In 2017-18, Battle played 1,443 minutes, which tabulates to 39 per game — both of those were tops in Division I. According to Sports Reference Battle is one of just five players since the 2009-10 season to play over 1,400 minutes in under 40 games.

Also dating back to the 2009-10 season, Battle is one of only three players to average over 40 minutes per game in conference games. Battle played in 99 percent of Syracuse’s available minutes in ACC games, too, per KenPom — No. 1 in the nation.

Pick-and-roll menace Jon Elmore of Marshall and Battle were the only two players in the nation this season to play 38 minutes per game with a usage rate north of 28 percent, too.

According to a reports from Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, All-ACC guard Jerome Robinson will hire an agent and stay in the 2018 NBA Draft. Boston College’s leading scorer had already declared for the draft a few weeks ago; however, he previously had left the door open to return.

That is no longer the case, though.

Robinson, who hails from Raleigh, averaged 20.7 points, 3.3 assists and shot 40.9 percent on three-pointers. As a junior, Robinson emerged as a dynamic pick-and-roll player, and one of the nation’s top shooters off the dribble.

Louisville basketball coach Chris Mack added a graduate transfer point guard to his roster on Monday and then followed up with some ancillary news, announcing five hires on his support staff.

Mack hired strength coach Andy Kettler, operations director Kahil Fennell, assistant athletic director for men’s basketball Andrew Lentz, video coordinator Ty Sampson and equipment manager Matt Stebbins, according to a report from the Louisville Courier-Journal’s Jake Lourim.

Kettler is a particularly intriguing addition. He previously was the strength coach at West Virginia, and that team became known for its relentless full-court press. His training regimen undoubtedly played a large role in making that brand of basketball possible.
