For the past month, college coaches have criss-crossed the country to watch high school recruits participate in a variety of summer events. Like their coaching colleagues, the Syracuse coaching staff took in the action from Orlando to Los Angeles and New York to Las Vegas. With the open evaluation period over, now seems like a good time to take another look at which recruits the Syracuse coaches are still actively pursuing. A few caveats about this list. It's not official. It's subject to change. A player who's on the list might in reality not be considering Syracuse anymore. Likewise, a recruit who isn't on the list might be on SU's radar (we just don't know it yet). Still, this is a reasonably accurate look at Syracuse's recruiting targets in the 2019 class. ... Nichols' team had just lost to Golden Eagles to eliminate any chance of continuing to compete for $2 million in The Basketball Tournament. But here, in front of Nichols, stood Josh Pace, his former Syracuse basketball teammate. The two embraced. They shared a few moments. Pace, the former Orange guard, was in Atlanta last week to recruit. He is an assistant basketball coach for the Pepperdine women's team. Atlanta teemed with girls in basketball gear all week. The Nike nationals were in town. Pace would also attend a girls basketball tournament in Cartersville, Ga. "It's a big recruiting period for us. There's two tournaments," he said, "so I've been out here recruiting." ... Syracuse Basketball: Tyler Roberson is headed overseas (itlh./com; Mlodzinski) Former Syracuse basketball forward Tyler Roberson is headed overseas. Roberson has agreed to play for the AEK Athens, a Greek league powerhouse. Yes, you read that right. Former Syracuse basketball star Tyler Roberson will be playing overseas for one of the premier teams in the Greek League. AEK Athens a Greek club team, won the Champions League last season, after finishing 5th in their league. Roberson actually had a very successful G-League campaign last season, averaging just over 10 points and 7 rebounds per game. In a guard oriented league, those numbers proved to be good, but Roberson decided that the Greek League was a better opportunity. While some people may say that this is just another failed NBA Career by Syracuse, I’d ask them to think again. Roberson was never the most talented player at ‘Cuse. From time to time, he gave it his all, having games where he would grab between 15 and 20 rebounds. However, Roberson’s career stats were lackluster to say the least, averaging just a bit over six points and six rebounds throughout his four year career. ... Breaking Down The Impact Melo Will Have In Houston (cbssports.com; video; Herbert) James Herbert discusses what sort of impact Carmelo Anthony will provide the Rockets this season. Other The Marriott Syracuse Downtown Adds To City's Renaissance (forbes.com; Sands) Perhaps known mostly for college basketball and snowy winters, Syracuse has been undergoing a modern-day renaissance in recent years and has more to offer locals and visitors than ever before. Throughout Greater Syracuse there are art galleries and museums, historical societies and theaters for those looking to enjoy a bit of history and culture during their trip. A visit to this friendly city will fill your days with an array of activities, fine dining and historic tours. A “must see” attraction is the Erie Canal Museum, a historical museum dedicated to preserving and showcasing the 1850 National Register Weighlock Building and providing visitors the ability to experience a part of history that played an imperative role in the growth and development of the United States. The Lakeview Amphitheatre, one of the region’s best seasonal open-air concert venues, seats over 17,000 people and brings an array of award-winning artists to its stage such as Brad Paisley, Janet Jackson and Luke Bryan. The SUArt Galleries proudly displays works by some of the world’s most notable artists while the Landmark Theatre features major Broadway shows which can be enjoyed without having to make the trip to New York City. In addition to Syracuse University “Orange” basketball, sports enthusiasts will find numerous other high action options that include the Syracuse Chiefs, The Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, and the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. Of course, Syracuse University offers spectators a wide variety of sports. ...
