Welcome to Constitution Day and Citizenship Day!

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day "commemorate the formation and signing on September 17, 1787, of the Constitution and recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens." If September 17 takes place on a weekend or on another holiday, Constitution Day and Citizenship Day are observed on a nearby weekday. On the day, the president traditionally issues a proclamation calling on government officials to display the flag on government buildings, and calls for the day to be observed in schools and other places with appropriate ceremonies. Events and activities take place around the country, and civil and education groups provide citizens with educational resources about the Constitution.

Syracuse basketball target Joe Girard III propels Glens Falls to football rout over rival (PS; Waters)

Joe Girard III is the all-time scoring lead in New York state basketball history.

The highly touted shooting guard is also proving to be quite the scoring threat on the football field.

On Saturday, Girard guided Glens Falls High School to a 48-12 rout of rival Hudson Falls on Saturday. Girard, a three-year starter at quarterback, threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Glens Falls retained the trophy in the annual Jug Game.

Girard's touchdown passes came on throws of 45, 20, 70 and 65 yards. He completed 11 out of 15 pass attempts for 303 yards. His rushing TD came on a 6-yard run.

Glens Falls improved to 3-0 on the season, while Hudson Falls lost for the first time, falling to 2-1. Glens Falls is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class B.

Girard, a 6-foot-2 guard on the basketball court, has received scholarship offers from several schools. He has narrowed his list of choices down to six schools: Syracuse, Boston College, Penn State, Michigan, Duke and Notre Dame.

Boston College basketball coach Jim Christian attended Glens Falls' football game on Saturday to see Girard.

FSU Basketball: Quick takeaways from ACC schedule release (chophchat.com; Parker)

FSU basketball now knows the 18 games they will play this season against Atlantic Coast Conference foes – and we break down the good and the bad.

In just over a month and a half, the FSU basketball team will raise a banner to honor just the third Elite Eight trip in program history when they take on the rival Florida Gators – not the way you would think a team should start the season, but head coach Leonard Hamilton has never been shy about scheduling tough.

About two months after that, business really kicks up a notch when the Seminoles open up Atlantic Coast Conference play – 18 games against some of the toughest teams in what has historically been one of the toughest – if not the toughest – conferences in all of major college basketball.
Each season, the ACC schedule has plenty of pros and cons for the FSU basketball team and fanbase to marinate on while figuring out if this is the season the Seminoles finally bring home the program’s first ever national title. With the release of this year’s conference slate, here’s a look at both the good, the bad and the biggest stretch of games for the Noles in ACC play this season.

NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Top 10 mid-major recruits for 2018-19 (bustingbrackets.com; Anderson)

The 2018-19 NCAA Basketball season is right around the corner. Here’s a look at some mid-major prospects to keep an eye on up until March.

The college basketball landscape is becoming quite competitive all-around, especially on the mid-major circuit. The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the West Coast Conference are no longer the only mid-major conference that holds weight either. The Mountain West Conference boasts the likes of the Nevada Wolfpack while the Atlantic 10 has the likes of the Rhode Island Rams and St. Louis Billikens.

Head coach Eric Musselman’s Nevada squad is loaded entering this upcoming season after making an improbable run to the Sweet 16 in last year’s NCAA Tournament. New head coach David Cox will have his hands full replacing the Rams’ star power but he’ll have some quality freshmen incoming to improve the balance. St. Louis is another team to keep eye on as well with an under-the-radar recruit of their own.

The Ivy League conference will be another mid-major conference to keep an eye on. The Harvard Crimson and Princeton Tigers have some highly-rated recruits in their rotation for 2018-19, which should make for a much more competitive landscape in the Ivy League.

There’s sure to be another Cinderella team emerge by March in 2018-19. Here’s a look at the Top 10 mid-major prospects to keep an eye on this upcoming season that could be the driving force in a run in the NCAA Tournament and an even bigger coup in the NBA Draft.

PHOTOS: 'American Dresser' movie stars celebrate Syracuse premiere (PS; Herbert)

Tom Berenger and Keith David returned to Syracuse over the weekend to celebrate the premiere of "American Dresser," the first movie made at the Central New York Film Hub.

Berenger, David and Jeff Fahey joined writer-director Carmine Cangialosi for a special screening of the film Saturday at the MOST in Armory Square. Berenger ("Platoon," "Major League") and David ("Platoon," "Armageddon") were also spotted around town Friday, including at a motorcycle event at Performance Harley-Davidson.

"American Dresser," about two lifelong friends who embark on a cross-country motorcycle trip, will be released in select theaters and Video On Demand this Friday, Sept. 21.

Oscar-nominee Berenger stars as John Moore, a Vietnam veteran who recently lost his wife and is estranged from his adult daughters. He decides to address past mistakes, fixes up his American Dresser motorcycle, and learns what life is all about "one mile at a time" with his friend Charlie (David).

The movie was shot at the nano film hub in DeWitt in 2015, as well as scenes at Heid's in Liverpool, the Ramada Inn at Carrier Circle, Pooch's in Solvay, and at the New York State Fair. Scenes were also shot on the road in the Rockies, Monument Valley and other iconic road trip sites across the U.S.

"It was great to shoot American Dresser in Syracuse and I look forward to sharing it with everyone that helped make it happen," Cangialosi said in a statement. "The future of filmmaking in Central New York is ready to take off and I hope to be back soon myself."

Billy Joel and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons reportedly contributed music to the movie, which was acquired by national entertainment company Cinedigm for the release.
