Recruiting Roundup: Syracuse gets commitment from John Bol Ajak - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

Lots from the Syracuse basketball recruiting world. Just a note: The women’s team received a 2020 commit on Tuesday.

Around the same time, the Syracuse men’s basketball team picked up a commitment from 6-10 Westtown (Pa.) center John Bol Ajak. He is rated three-stars by 247 Sports and is the 61st rated center in his class. He also held offers from Pitt, VCU, Connecticut and George Washington, among others. The news was first reported on Twitter by Pat Lawless. “It just felt right,” Ajak said in an interview with Syracuse.com’s Mike Waters. “After I came up to the school, it was obvious.” He is the second commit in the 2019 class, joining St. Andrew’s (RI) guard Brycen Goodine.

Syracuse also looks to be in good position for Quincy Guerrier, a 6-foot-7 wing from Thetford Academy in Quebec City, Quebec. He tweeted on Tuesday night that he’s going to announce his top three on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. He’s taken visits to Syracuse and Oregon recently, and told Adam Zagoria in September that he will take a visit to Illinois this weekend before deciding by the end of the month. One telling quote from his interview with Zagoria favors SU: “My relationship with the players from Syracuse was better than with Oregon.”

Syracuse Basketball Recruiting: John Bol Ajak commits to the Orange (itlh.com; Patrick)

6-foot-11 center John Bol Ajak out of Pennsylvania has decided to join the Syracuse basketball program as part of the school’s 2019 class.

Way back in September of 2017, the Syracuse basketball team got their first commitment from the 2019 recruiting class in four-star shooting guard Brycen Goodine from Rhode Island.

Now a little over a year after landing Goodine, the Orange have received a commitment from another 2019 recruit. On Tuesday, Syracuse.com reported that the school has landed three-star center John Bol Ajak from Pennsylvania.

Originally from Sudan, Ajak is a 6-foot-11, lanky big man that should eventually fit in nicely on Syracuse’s roster. He is in the classic mold of what the Orange typically look for in a center to fit in the middle of their vaunted 2-3 zone defense.

This past weekend, Ajak was in central New York for his official visit to the school. He clearly enjoyed his time on campus as it didn’t take very long for the young center to commit to Syracuse after leaving.

Before opting to join the Orange, Ajak was being recruited by a number of other schools including UConn, George Washington, Pittsburgh, and VCU.

At his height, Ajak is actually the tallest recruit to commit to Syracuse since Fab Melo back in 2010.
