The amendment repealed the Eighteenth Amendment, which had prohibited the production, transportation, and sale of alcohol. Although December 5 has long since been known as "repeal day," it was not officially celebrated as such until mixologist, bartender, and writer Jeffrey Morgenthaler shared his idea for the day in 2006. He believed it was appropriate to have a holiday celebrating the drinking of alcohol on the date, since the date had more of a direct connection to drinking than holidays such as St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo—days when drinking is quite popular. He also thought it made sense because it celebrated something that was protected by the Constitution of the United States. Furthermore he believed it was a day that anyone in the United States could celebrate, that the date fit nicely between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and that it could be easily celebrated by simply having a drink. "We've got a lot of work to do and we're a long ways from where we would like to be at this time,'' Boeheim said. "You always want to get better anyway, but we're a long ways from where we would want to be right now. We're not even close to where we would like to be right now. It shows. It's the little things that happen out there. We've got to overcome them and we've got to get better out there.'' Boeheim was speaking mostly about the lack of offense from his point guard Frank Howard, but you could see where some of his hesitation comes from elsewhere. For the second straight game, the Orange offense was a two-man show with Elijah Hughes (17) pairing with Oshae Brissett (21) to combine for 38 points with Tyus Battle having a rare off night on offense. The Orange held Northeastern to a season-low 49 points, but Boeheim brushed that off as the Huskies simply missing a lot of shots in the second-half. Just five non-conference games remain for Syracuse (Georgetown, Old Dominion, Buffalo, Arkansas State, St. Bonaventure) and the boss doesn't think the Orange are where they are supposed to be. From there, the Orange went on a 9-0 run capped by a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Oshae Brissett to close the half to take a 35-23 lead into intermission. Brissett’s layup with 7:33 left in the second half gave Syracuse a 57-37 lead, and the Orange was in complete control from there. ANALYSIS: One game after Syracuse struggled against Cornell, the Orange played one of its better games from both ends of the floor. On offense, SU assisted on 20 of its 26 field goals after coming in having assisted on less than half of its field goals for the season. Brissett posted team highs with a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds, Hughes added 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting, and the Orange captured a 72-49 victory over Northeastern with a crowd of 20,416 on hand at the Carrier Dome. Providence took BC into overtime and won, Clemson barely beat 2-6 St. Peter’s at home 65-60, Oklahoma lassoed Notre Dame 85-80 and Miami fell to last place in the Ivy after losing to Penn 89-75 after having lost to Princeton last time out. Only Syracuse had an impressive night, and that’s relative considering the opponent, beating 4-5 Northeastern 72-49. If Boston College could have stopped a late three, the Eagles would have beaten PC but consider this: despite losing Jerome Robinson, a lottery pick in this past summer’s draft, the Eagles are still competitive and have found useful young players in Wynston Tabbs and Jairus Hamilton. However they are young and combined for 10 of BC’s 16 turnovers. Senior Jordan Chatman led the way in this one though, with 28 on 8-12 from the floor. Tabbs had 17 and Hamilton 13. All that said, BC might have won if Ky Bowman hadn’t gotten into foul trouble. Chatman played 44 minutes and Steffon Mitchell played 45.
