ESPN will offer a replay of Syracuse basketball’s upset win over No. 1 Duke (PS; Carlson)

Syracuse basketball fans who want to re-live the team’s biggest upset in more than two decades will get a chance again on Tuesday afternoon, when the Orange’s 95-91 overtime win over Duke will be re-broadcast on ESPNU at 4 p.m.

Syracuse was a 17-point underdog against top-ranked Duke, making the game the largest upset win for the Syracuse basketball team that the website Covers.com has on record. It’s list of archived lines goes back to 1997-97.

The game was also historic, marking the first time the Blue Devils have ever lost at home to an unranked team while they were the No. 1 team in the country.

Among the performances Syracuse fans might want to savor are center Paschal Chukwu’s career-high 18 rebounds, guard Tyus Battle’s season-high 32 points and Elijah Hughes' full-court heave before the halftime buzzer.

Along with the ESPNU re-broadcast, ESPN subscribers that use the Watch ESPN app can re-watch the game any time. You’ll need the online sign-in info for your cable or satellite provider to access WatchESPN.

Video: Jim Boeheim, Charles Barkley chew on coach’s ‘fat’ comment during Dan Patrick Show (PS; Carlson)

Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim delivered what is sure to be one of the best quotes of the college basketball season on Monday night when describing Duke phenom Zion Williamson.

Williamson finished with 35 points and 10 rebounds against Syracuse but Boeheim’s team emerged with a 95-91 overtime win.

“He’s a physical specimen," Boeheim said of Williamson after the game. “He’s like Charles Barkely was except he shoots better than Charles did. And he’s not as fat. ... I hope Charles will come back, he’ll have something for me there.”

Barkley had his opportunity on Tuesday when he joined in Boeheim’s guest appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, engaging in some good-natured banter. Boeheim explained that Barkley should have been flattered by the comparison and then praised his performance as a player. Barkley joked that he’d punch the Syracuse coach before signing off with, “You know I love you, man.”

“Charles is probably mad at me because he reminds me of Charles Barkley, which is actually a compliment to Charles, who is obviously a great Hall of Fame player,” Boeheim said, before the host put Barkley on the line. “This kid is like another world, another level of Charles Barkley. He’s a little bigger. He weighs 285 pounds. Charles weighed 285 pounds but it wasn’t distributed the same way. Different body fat, I think. He’s a different guy. He’s hard to play against.”

Will Syracuse Basketball Make The NCAA Tournament? (1045theteam.com; Goz)

Last night, the Syracuse Orange basketball team, shocked the number one ranked Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium, 95-91. The loss for Duke was the first in their last ninety games as the number one ranked team in the country in a match up at home against a non ranked opponent. The victory for Coach Jim Boeheim's Orange helps boost the team's NCAA tournament resume. However in similar fashion to the past four seasons, Syracuse basketball seems to be squarely on the "bubble" for an at large tournament bid.

The Orange have lost five games this season (Oregon, UConn, Buffalo, Old Dominion and Georgia Tech). Only one of those teams is currently ranked in the AP Top 25 and none of the five have solidified their resume enough yet to guarantee themselves an NCAA tournament bid.

Number of the week: 51.2 - average points allowed by the #1 ranked defense in the country. The Cavaliers have always been known for their strong defense, and this season is no exception.

2. Duke Blue Devils (LW: 1) 14-2 (3-1)
Last Week: W @ WF 87-65, W @ FSU 80-78, L vs Syracuse 91-95; Next Week: vs UVA 1/19

Number of the week: 68 - number of points scored by RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson in Duke’s loss to Syracuse. Barrett and Williamson are absolutely lethal, but the Blue Devils are still beatable despite their star power.

Last Week: W @ GT 52-49; Next Week: @ UVA 1/15, vs Wake 1/19, @ UNC 1/21

Last Week: W @ NC State 90-82, L vs Louisville 62-83; Next Week: vs ND 1/15, @ Miami 1/19, vs VT 1/21

6. Louisville Cardinals (LW: 7) 11-5 (2-1)
Last Week: L @ Pitt 86-89, W @ UNC 83-62; Next Week:

Number of the week: 11 - number of 3-pointers made in Louisville’s win over UNC. The Tar Heels could not withstand the barrage from downtown, giving Chris Mack and the Cardinals an early statement victory.

7. Syracuse Orange (LW: 9) 12-5 (3-1)
Last Week: W vs Clemson 61-53, L vs GT 59-73, W @ Duke 95-91; Next Week: vs Pitt 1/19

Jim Boeheim & Syracuse simply refuse to make it easy on anyone (including themselves) (thecomeback.com; Keeley)

There are many ways to building a college basketball program and many ways to maintain that success. Coach K at Duke is probably the gold standard of the modern era, though you could certainly look at North Carolina, Villanova, Kentucky, and Kansas and come up with some good case studies as well. For the most part, the recipe includes great coaching, solid recruiting, and consistent success in the regular season and postseason.

And then there’s whatever the heck Jim Boeheim has been doing at Syracuse over the last few years.

Episode 116- Syracuse Basketball: The Orange Beat #1 Duke In Their Own House Postgame!

YouTube Gold: Jim Brown (DBR; King)

While all Duke fans would have liked to have won the game Monday, and while we can find reasons why we didn’t, the inescapable fact is that Syracuse played well and earned the win.

So in honor of our friends from Lower Canada, we present a highlight reel of Syracuse’s greatest athlete ever: Jim Brown.

We were too young to see him play but watch this and you’ll see a huge talent. It’s not at all hard to imagine him in the NFL today.

For those who don’t know, he was also an All-America in lacrosse.

FSU basketball tumbles in new bracketology projection after 2 ACC losses (tomahawknation.com; Visser)

As far as ESPN’s Joe Lunardi is concerned, Florida State basketball’s road through the NCAA Tournament just got a lot more difficult. And for good reason, as the Seminoles have dropped two straight games for the first time this season after losing a nail-biter at home to Duke and then suffering a road defeat vs. Pittsburgh.

After consecutive projections that included the ’Noles as a 3-seed and a 4-seed, respectively, both of which involved FSU opening play in Jacksonville, that home-state advantage is now off the table, as is the lofty seeding. Lunardi’s most recent bracketology projection has the Seminoles as a 6-seed in the West region, opening play in Tulsa, Oklahoma, against 11-seed Wofford.

The Terriers in the opening round is certainly not a bad draw, but should the ’Noles advance, Lunardi has them meeting the winner of 3-seed Oklahoma and 14-seed Boise State. Facing the Sooners in the Sooner State? Not ideal. And it doesn’t get any easier.

Virginia Tech basketball: Hokies suffer first ACC loss at No. 4 Virginia (gobblercountry.com; Manning)

It was arguably the biggest game in the history of the rivalry on Tuesday night, as the No. 9 Virginia Tech Hokies traveled to Charlottesville to take on the fourth-ranked Cavaliers. However, the game didn’t quite live up to the hype as the Cavaliers easily defeated the Hokies 81-59 to remain undefeated on the season.

The game was close early, but that was about it. UVa was unconscious from beyond the arc, hitting on 10 of 14 attempts in the first half alone. The Hokies, meanwhile, shot two of nine from three-point range and entered halftime down 44-22.

The second half got off to a much better start for Tech as Ahmed Hill and Nickeil Alexander-Walker hit a couple of big shots and the Hokies were hot. After a 7-0 run closed the lead to 14 points, the Hoos took over and never looked back.

On the night, Virginia shot 58.5 percent from the floor, including 54 percent from beyond the arc as UVa’s trio of De’Andre Hunter, Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome combined for 50 points and the Hokies had no real answers.

Meanwhile, the Hokies shot 43 percent from the field and just 33 percent from beyond the three-point line. It’s the second straight game Tech has struggled from the field although the Hokies were much better on Tuesday night than they were in last week’s win at Georgia Tech.

UFO sightings happen all the time in Upstate New York, and a website that collects witness reports shows that there were 65 such sightings in the region in 2018.

The National UFO Reporting Center is based in Washington State, and can't determine the validity of every report it gets, but the organization does keep a database of sightings of unidentified flying objects, alien spacecraft and even little green men.

The site does its best to omit "obvious hoaxes," and only list sightings that witnesses truly believe they saw. NUFORC contacts as many witnesses as possible, and makes notes about certain sightings.

Whether you believe or not, a 2017 study by Chapman University in California found that 35 percent of Americans believe that aliens have come to Earth in the ancient past. And the U.S. government recently admitted that they have studied the phenomenon.

The sightings are interesting to look through. They range from unusual light patterns and large triangular shapes to frightening creatures, and have happened in every corner of the Upstate NY region.

They are sorted below by region and date. Take a look below and see if there were any UFO sightings in your town.
