Welcome to Northern Hemisphere Hoodie Hoo Day!

The day is celebrated by going outside at noon and yelling "hoodie-hoo". This is done to chase away winter and make way for spring. Although this holiday is specifically for those in the Northern Hemisphere, it can't hurt to go outside and yell "hoodie-hoo" if you live in the Southern Hemisphere as well. Although, if you help speed up the arrival of spring up north, you are only speeding up the arrival of cold weather in your own hemisphere!

Syracuse basketball vs. Louisville: 10 things to watch for (PS; Waters)

The last time the Syracuse Orange took to the court, it absorbed a 73-58 loss at North Carolina State last Wednesday.
Will a week off help Syracuse find some answers to the issues that led to the 15-point dismantling at the hands of the Wolfpack?
Syracuse, now 17-8 overall and 8-4 in the ACC, will host 18th-ranked Louisville at the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night. The Cardinals bring an 18-8 record (9-4 ACC) into the contest.

This is the first of three consecutive games against ranked opponents for the Orange, which will host Duke on Saturday and then travel to North Carolina next Tuesday. Four of Syracuse's last six regular season games will be against ranked teams.
Louisville is coming off a narrow 56-55 win over Clemson. That game helped the Cardinals shake off the memory of their second-half collapse against Duke early last week.

Here are 10 things to watch for:

Louisville basketball: How to beat Syracuse, from their perspective (bigredlouie.com; Lane)

Louisville basketball will back out on the road to face a tough and win needing Syracuse on Wednesday. We caught up with the Orange experts.

After two weeks of tough losses and close calls, it’s time to turn the page to the next opponent for Louisville basketball. The Cards are set to hit the road to travel up north to take on familar foe, Syracuse, in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse, much like Clemson, is a team fighting for their NCAA Tournament life as they are currently sitting at 11-8 overall, and 8-4 in the ACC heading into the toughest part of their schedule, with four of their next six games coming against teams ranked in the top 20. Joey Brackets of ESPN.com currently has the Orange has one of his last four teams in, meaning they would be playing in the opening round game as an 11 seed.

For Louisville, Chris Mack and his squad will be looking to move on from the ghosts that have haunted them through the past three games. As we’ve pointed out time and time again over the last few days, the losses have hurt and there’s no doubt that they could have long lasting effect – but we at Big Red Louie don’t believe they will. Chris Mack is a coach who preached toughness over everything, and with that being the case it’s time to prove that his team can bounce back strong from disappointing losses and close calls.

Dominique's Dimes: If Louisville beats the zone, they beat Syracuse (courier-journal.com; Yates)

Most coaches across the country have trademarks.

Coaches like Tony Bennett and Chris Mack are known for pack line defense. John Calipari loves that dribble-drive motion offense. Shaka Smart likes to wreak "havoc”.

Jim Boeheim runs the 2-3 zone. If you didn’t know that, you have not watched basketball.

It has won his Syracuse teams a national championship and several final fours. It’s what they do.

More Cards: Louisville football's QB competition to be 'wide open' for a while

Although they are not afraid to bring some full court pressure, which I expect them to do some against Louisville, once the Cardinals get the ball to the half court what do they do?

The Orange have great length and make it difficult for teams to score — they’re one of the few teams in college basketball to defeat Duke this season. If Louisville can find a way to beat the zone, get good shots and make smart decisions and not turn the ball over, they win and win easily.

A lot of emphasis will be put on Louisville’s struggles to handle pressure and late-game situations. If the Cards take care of business and attack the Syracuse zone, they won’t have any issues collecting another ACC win before getting ready for Saturday’s matchup with Virginia.

What Syracuse University wants fans to know for Duke, Notre Dame games, and ESPN’s College GameDay (cnybj.com; Reinardt)

Syracuse University Athletics on Tuesday announced details it feels fans should know for this Saturday’s men’s basketball game with Duke, the ESPN College GameDay broadcast in the Carrier Dome, and the Monday Syracuse-Notre Dame women’s basketball game.

Syracuse University Director of Athletics John Wildhack calls it a “good busy.”

Wildhack and Pete Sala, VP and chief campus facilities officer, on Tuesday held a news conference at the Carrier Dome to outline logistics for this weekend’s games.

The school is preparing to host men’s basketball games against Louisville on Wednesday night and against second-ranked Duke early Saturday evening; women’s basketball games against Pittsburgh on Thursday night and against top-ranked Notre Dame on Monday night; and a women’s lacrosse game against Northwestern and men’s lacrosse game against Army West Point on Sunday afternoon.

Syracuse-Duke attendance, parking

The Orange and the Blue Devils are set for a 6 p.m. tip off on ESPN and the teams will play in front of the “largest on-campus crowd in college basketball history,” Syracuse said. Saturday night’s crowd will surpass the current record of 35,466, which was set when the Orange hosted Duke in 2014 and again in 2015.

Syracuse Basketball: Top 5 things to know ahead of Louisville game (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Wednesday night as the backdrop, here’s what you need to know for the game.
The Syracuse basketball squad hasn’t played in a week, it feels a little weird. Hopefully, the Orange used that time wisely because over the next six days they’ll be playing three top-18 teams in the country.

That starts Wednesday night in the Carrier Dome against one of the best teams in the ACC. The Cardinals are 18-8 overall, 9-4 in the ACC. The Cardinals have lost three out of their last five games, although the context is important, those losses were all versus top-25 foes.

For Syracuse, like a troublesome adolescent that has been sent to timeout, have had time to think about their issues over the last week. The Orange have lost two out of their last three and face one of the most daunting challenges in all of college basketball down the final stretch.

To learn more about the Cardinals we sat down with The Big Red Louie Site Expert Jacob Lane, our FanSided sister network that covers all things Louisville. Here are the top five things you need to know ahead of this ACC tilt on Wednesday night.

Syracuse Basketball: Top keys to victory in tilt with the Louisville Cardinals (itlh.com; Adler)

The Syracuse basketball squad, following an idle week, gets back in action on Wednesday night with a pivotal encounter versus Louisville.

Over its next half-dozen games to culminate the 2018-19 regular season, the SU hoops outfit will have numerous huge chances to improve its positioning for an at-large invite to March Madness. Those prime opportunities begin on Wednesday evening when the ‘Cuse hosts No. 18 Louisville.

Syracuse (17-8, 8-4) looked totally lethargic in a blow-out loss at N.C. State on Feb. 13 and the Orange must better balance its scoring attack if it hopes to conquer the Cardinals (18-8, 9-4) or any of its other daunting foes who await in the near future. Against the Wolfpack, senior point guard Frank Howard had a decent performance, but the rest of the roster didn’t do much at all.

In fact, the ‘Cuse proved putrid from the field as a whole, from the charity stripe, and from beyond the arc. I get that SU relies a bunch on its defense to prevail, but the offense has to contribute, too.

From a statistical perspective, Louisville averages about seven more points per contest than Syracuse, but the Cardinals also allow roughly 3.5 additional points every 40 minutes. Louisville possesses the edge in rebounding and assists, while the Orange has an advantage in blocks and steals.

Duke vs. North Carolina: Ticket prices for ACC rivalry game nearing $3,000 just to get in the building (cbssports.com; Boone)

If the two numbers besides Duke and North Carolina representing their respective standings in the latest AP Top 25 poll don't portray just how big Wednesday's matchup is, another one will: $4,670.

That's how much the average listing price for the rivalry game in Durham is currently running on the secondary market, according to StubHub. The cheapest ticket just to get in the door? A whopping $2,927 including estimated fees. That's not much less expensive than the "get-in" price for the 2019 Super Bowl!

Considering the venue and the circumstances, the sky-high ticket prices make sense. For as big a brand as Duke is, the capacity of Cameron Indoor Stadium is less than 10,000 -- and the floor seats are for students. That leaves the rest of the crowd to fend for a place to watch, and because supply is thin and demand to watch Zion Williamson, Duke's star freshman, is high, ticket prices are rising.

Adding to the always-hot ticket demand to watch Williamson and his fab freshmen teammates RJ Barrett, Cam Reddish and Tre Jones, all of which could be first-rounders this summer, is that Duke re-earned the No. 1 spot in the rankings this week. UNC, meanwhile, is No. 8.

Oh, and Duke-UNC is *kind of* a big deal, too. The rivalry is considered the best in college basketball.

College GameDay set for Duke; ex-SU football stars join new AAF | The NewsHouse (thenewshouse.com; Bradford)

GameDay returns to the Dome for Orange-Blue Devils

On Saturday, ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to Syracuse for the men’s basketball game against rival No. 1 Duke. This is the first time GameDay has visited Syracuse since a matchup with Duke in 2014, where the Orange won 91-89 after an overtime period.

Hosts Jay Bilas, Seth Greenberg, Reece Davis and Jay Williams will broadcast from the Carrier Dome from 11 a.m. to noon, as well as during pre-game and halftime. Fans who want to participate in College GameDay festivities are able to attend the morning taping for free. Fans should enter through Carrier Dome gates A, B or C beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Additionally, fans are able to park in the West Campus Lot for free, but must move their cars after GameDay if they do not have a West Campus Lot permit for the game in the evening.

Fans will be able to tour and take pictures with the College GameDay bus from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pressroom Pub.

The two teams last faced off at Duke on Jan. 14, where the Orange came out on top with a 95-91 overtime victory. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday in the Carrier Dome.

ACC announces future matchups of men’s basketball

On Feb. 14, the ACC announced the league’s 20-game men’s basketball schedule for the next three seasons. Under this model, each team will play two main rivals twice at home and twice away (four games) and face four repeat opponents home and away (eight games).

Some notable home games for the Orange include Duke and UNC in the 2019-20 season, Florida State in the 2020-21 season and Virginia in the 2021-22 season.

Clemson vs. FSU Basketball Preview: Q&A with Tomahawk Nation (shakinthesouthland.com; Kantor & Korosec)

It’s one of the biggest games of the season. With a win, the Tigers are on track to make the NCAA tournament. With a loss, they’d need to end the year on an epic and likely unrealistic run. To preview this contest, we reached out to Tomahawk Nation and connected with Courteney Korosec (follow here) for a question and answer session about the Seminoles and this huge ACC matchup. Enjoy, and be sure to head over to Tomahawk Nation to see the other half of the Q&A which should be live very shortly.

STS: Florida State basketball made an Elite Eight run last season. They’re currently ranked and riding a seven-game win streak. Meanwhile, the Seminole football team just posted their first losing season since 1976. I certainly know how difficult it can be for football-centric fan bases like Clemson and Florida State to turn their attention to basketball at the end of football season. Has that been a little different this year given the success of the two teams?

TN: No, I don’t think this year has been vastly different from the past several years, because FSU Hoops has done so well in recent history. Fans have already made that adjustment towards watching the basketball team since Coach Hamilton turned the program around. Regardless of the football team going 5-7 or 12-0, fans have the same strong interest in the basketball program this season. I think the only place where it might have changed slightly is the student body is more invested in going to games because of the team’s success especially after the rough football season the student’s experienced this year.
