Welcome to National Burrito Day!

Today we celebrate and enjoy burritos, which are made by wrapping tortillas around fillings such as beans or refried beans, meat, rice, salsa, guacamole, shredded cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, and other vegetables. They can be eaten with hands or can be served "wet"—being covered with sauce—and be eaten with a fork. Burrito bowls have all the ingredients of burritos except the tortillas.

Centuries ago, Mesoamericans rolled food such as chili peppers, avocados, squash, tomatoes, and mushrooms into corn tortillas. When the Spanish arrived, they brought wheat and pigs, which allowed for flour tortillas for wrapping and carnitas for filling. The Pueblo people in the Southwestern United States were known to eat tortillas filled with beans and meat sauces.

Syracuse Basketball: Orange’s sizable revenue shouldn’t be a surprise (itlh.com; Adler)

An interesting tidbit here, as the Syracuse basketball squad is among the leaders nationally in terms of how much revenue it produces.

The Syracuse basketball program brought in revenue of nearly $31.8 million during the 2017-18 campaign, when SU reached the Sweet 16, per a report from Syracuse.com, which cited financial data that the university provides on an annual basis to the federal government.

That amount of revenue, by the way, is a record for the ‘Cuse, eclipsing the 2013-14 season, when the Orange generated close to $29.8 million, began that year 25-0, attained the No. 1 ranking across the country, and lost in the round of 32 in the Big Dance to Dayton.

The Syracuse.com article says that the 2017-18 revenue placed SU third in the country, trailing two fellow Atlantic Coast Conference members, Louisville, and Duke. Another league foe, North Carolina, also found itself in the top 10, at No. 7.

According to Syracuse.com, the ‘Cuse reported expenses of more than $14.7 million in the 2017-18 stanza, also a record for the team. The resulting surplus, in excess of $17 million, is another school record and rated second nationally, says Syracuse.com.

In July 2018, Tyler Roberson had his first experience in Europe by signing for the prestigious AEK Athens (the other most famous Black & Yellow club in the Old Continent) where Giannis Athinaiou and Malik Hairston have already evolved, and where he was also productive at the bench exit with 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 13 minutes per game.
