Welcome to National Wine and Cheese Day!

National Wine and Cheese Day, created by Jace Shoemaker-Galloway, celebrates the pairing of wine and cheese, which has been done for hundreds of years. One reason certain wines and cheeses began being paired together is they were from the same locations. Going back generations, some cheeses and wines that have been paired have come from the same village, or even from the same farm. In France, in the Brie region, Brie cheeses have long been paired with local wines like Beaujolais. In Italy, Asiago cheese has long been paired with wines that came from same the region, such as Italian Chianti and Brunello.

The quest to win $2 million in The Basketball Tournament starts on Friday for Boeheim’s Army.

The team of former Syracuse basketball alumni -- plus Jordan Crawford -- begins with a matchup against We Are D3 on Friday night at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.

Boeheim’s Army is filled with fan favorites like Hakim Warrick, Eric Devendorf and Brandon Triche.

The team also managed to add former Orange forward B.J. Johnson while former guard Andrew White agreed to play after he was spammed with text messages to join.

Boeheim’s Army opens up its run in this year’s edition of The Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Syracuse region this Friday at 7:00 p.m. against We Are D3 at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena.
With some late additions to the roster, BA is set to be one of the most talented teams in the $2 million, winner-take-all tournament. We already introduced you to everyone who is going to be taking the floor, but because this is a Syracuse alumni team (for the most part), let’s take a look back at each member’s greatest moment(s) in an SU uniform.
HEAD COACH RYAN BLACKWELL
1998 Big East Tournament

After one year at Illinois as a true freshman, Blackwell transferred to Syracuse in 1996 and became a key cog in the SU machine for the next three seasons. The current Liverpool High School head coach’s standout moment(s) came in a pair of Big East Tournament games in his sophomore year in 1998. The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder grabbed a ridiculous 16 rebounds in a first-round win over Villanova before nailing a last-second shot in OT vs St. John’s in the semifinals (SU would fall to UConn in the championship game), helping to solidify his Orange legacy.
G ERIC DEVENDORF
2009 Big East Tournament Run
The heart and soul of Boeheim’s Army was a fan favorite in his four-year run at SU and still is to this day. Like Blackwell, his marquee moments also came within the confines of a magical Big East Tournament run in 2009. After putting up 19 points in an opening round win over Seton Hall, Devo put together three straight 20-point performances against UConn (22 in 6 OT – his best moment would be a lot different if THAT shot had counted), West Virginia (23) and Louisville (20) in a title game loss. Those 84 points were the most ever in a four-game stretch in a four-game stretch in the BET and that coupled with Devo’s leadership in helping SU make the improbable run to the title game that season, make those four the games the defining moments of his Orange career.
G/ MIKE GBINIJE
2016 Final Four
One of the newest additions to the Boeheim’s Army roster, Gbinije’s three seasons with SU after transferring from Duke were awesome. Although he’s likely to play forward with BA, Silent G was the starting point guard on SU’s 2016 Final Four team. Far and away the Orange’s best and most consistent player entering the NCAA Tournament (led the team in scoring and assists and was the best defender on the team), Gbinije was slightly overshadowed by the heroics of Malachi Richardson in the Final Four run. He still averaged over 15 points (including two 20-point outings) and nearly 4 assists per game, making him a key piece of one of the most improbable Final Four runs in recent memory, cementing his spot as one of SU’s most loved players of the last five years.

The pursuit for $2 million begins this weekend for a handful of notable Syracuse men's basketball alumni as Boeheim's Army readies to compete in The Basketball Tournament.

Boeheim's Army will play We Are D3 7 p.m. Friday at Onondaga Community College in the TBT's regional quarterfinal. With a win, Boeheim's Army plays again noon Saturday in the regional semifinal, while the regional final is 2 p.m. Sunday.

Here are some players to watch:

Eric Devendorf
Position: Guard
Years with Syracuse: 2005-2009
College stats: 116 games, 14.5 PTS, 3.2 AST .436 FG%
This won't be Devendorf's first go-around with Boeheim's Army. The Bay City, Michigan native was named to the TBT's all-tournament team back in 2017.
Devendorf's four-year career at Syracuse had its ups and downs. He was named to the Big East All-Rookie team in 2005-06 after starting 30 games and averaging 12.2 points per game. His sophomore season was another success, as he upped his scoring average to 14.8 points per game, despite starting eight less games than the previous year.
Devendorf only played in 10 games as a junior before suffering an ACL tear; he was granted an extra year of eligibility, but returned to Syracuse for only one more season before declaring his eligibility to the 2009 NBA Draft.
After going undrafted, Devendorf spent the next seven years either in the NBA D-League or overseas. Following his playing career, Devendorf has served as an assistant strength coach for Syracuse men's basketball and special assistant at the University of Detroit Mercy.

John Gillon
Position: Guard
Years with Syracuse: 2016-17
College stats: 129 games, 10.6 PTS, 3.8 AST, .395 FG%, .840 FT%

Gillon transferred twice during his college career before making his way to Syracuse for one season. One of Boeheim's Army's more recent Syracuse alumni, Gillon appeared in 34 games with 23 starts in 2016-17 for a Orange team that failed to make the NCAA tournament.
Undrafted after his college career, Gillon has spent the past three seasons in the NBA G League, most recently appearing in 46 games with the Greensboro Swarm and Erie BayHawks. He averaged 13.4 points and six assists in 46 games.

Staff at the 1833 Kitchen & Bar were scrambling. Thunderstorms slowly inched across Cayuga Lake, requiring a reseat of diners from a dozen or so outdoor tables to the main dining room. While Mother Nature robbed us of dining outside during our visit to the Inns of Aurora, it could not dampen the aesthetic and culinary precision that emerged at our table.

Beef tenderloin ($32) sat at the edge of the plate alongside potatoes fondant and a medley of carrots, spinach and celery root. A garlic-tinged cream sauce was streaked across the plate, giving the entree a dramatic appearance. Simply seasoned with salt and pepper, the fork-tender beef was prepared to medium-rare and succulent. A beef au jus spooned over top did more to enhance the flavors of the potato and vegetables.
Handmade pasta was tossed with a tomato-based bolognese sauce ($20). A sprinkling of parmesan cheese and parsley flakes over top created a colorful feast for the eyes. The gentle tomato flavor paired well with the rich blend of sirloin, pork and herbs of the sauce, which hugged the pasta during each forkful.
