From that point forward it has spread all over the globe to become one of the primary staple crops of many cultures. Potatoes are a favorite part of American cuisine, with millions of different forms of preparation to be found. Potatoes are even used to make bread, rolls, and pancakes, and as such can be found in every meal of the day. For a time Ireland was so reliant on the potato as a food crop that a potato plague managed to starve the entire country. Make no mistake, there was plenty of food being grown in Ireland at the time, 5 ships full a day were being sailed out of the country, but the people of Ireland were being drained dry by the English who ruled them that potatoes and cabbage were all they had to live on. SU News https://accfootballrx.blogspot.com/2019/08/mbb-kenpom-since-1997.html (RX; HM) MBB: KenPom since 1997 Football is not the only college sport getting into the "all-time" best act... The game was different than the first four, as official stats were not kept (we had to do so manually) and score was reset after each quarter. Syracuse was able to win each quarter, and won the cumulative score by 40 points. The most competitive quarter was the third, where Syracuse won 18-15 on a buzzer beating half court shot by Elijah Hughes. Roma was holding for the last possession, but Hughes was able to get a steal and race up court. He took one step beyond half court and launched a shot just before the final second ticked off the clock. The ball went in, giving the Orange another quarter victory. Hughes finished the game with a team high 20 points including five three pointers. He added three assists and four steals as well. Syracuse shot 44% from the floor overall, made 11 three pointers, won the rebounding battle 52-33, held Roma to under 33% shooting including just 3-22 from beyond the arc, and forced 20 Roma turnovers. The Orange were superior in all areas right from the start. Aside from a competitive third quarter, the Orange dominated action in the other three. Bourama Sidibe controlled the boards for Syracuse, finishing with 17 rebounds to go along with six points and two blocks. Despite only recording two rejections, he altered several other Roma shots inside. He was a big difference maker for the Orange, as Roma had no answer for his size and length. True freshman Quincy Guerrier continued to get strong as the game progressed. He finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals while shooting 5-9 from the floor. Guerrier's athleticism and physicality inside was a major problem for Roma, who did not have anyone to match. Fellow true freshman Joseph Girard hit a pair of three pointers on his way to eight points, four assists and three steals. Point guard Jalen Carey was stellar early, scoring seven of Syracuse's first eight points. He got to the rim anytime he wanted, even setting up his teammates on a number of occasions. He only finished with two assists, but could have had a few more if not for Roma fouls that prevented Syracuse from finishing. Carey finished with nine points and three steals. Both teams really struggled from the free throw line, as Roma was just 5-15 (33%) and Syracuse finished 11-24 (46%). ... Syracuse basketball's Italy exhibition — What We Learned - The Juice Online (the juixce; Cheng) Syracuse closed its four-game exhibition swing through Italy with a 82-42 win over Virtus Roma on Sunday. With the preseason games now in the books, it’s time to look back on what we learned from those games. THE RISE OF SIDIBE Syracuse center Bourama Sidibe has had a frustrating two first years with the Orange. He was limited by knee injuries in his first two years, averaging just 2.7 points and 3.2 rebounds in 12.4 minutes a game in his freshman year, and his sophomore year was actually a step back. Last year, Sidibe found himself mostly out of the rotation at the end of the season, and registered 1.9 ppg and 2.7 rpg in 10.1 minutes. But Sidibe finally appears to be healthy, and it showed in Italy. He looked active, mobile and agile anchoring the zone, averaging 12 rebounds through the four games, including 17 rebounds in the preseason tour finale against Virtus Roma, a 82-42 win. One of the biggest questions in the offseason is how Syracuse would find production from the center position with Paschal Chukwu moving on. Sidibe, a four-star recruit out of high school, could be that answer, and he could also give the Orange a legitimate low-post presence, something SU has lacked since Rakeem Christmas. PRECOCIOUS GUERRIER Quincy Guerrier looks like he’ll be ready to shoulder big time minutes. With Marek Dolezaj unable to play because of a finger injury, Guerrier stepped into the starting lineup, and played the most minutes of all the freshmen during the trip. He proved that he can be a three-level scorer, and capping off the trip with a 14-point, 12-rebound performance. Guerrier showed a consistent motor throughout the exhibition games, finishing as SU’s second-leading rebounder behind Sidibe. ... https://insidetheloudhouse.com/2019/08/18/syracuse-basketball-quincy-guerrier-factor/ (itlh; Arrigo) Syracuse basketball defeated Siena Select in Italy 115-56 for their 3rd straight win on their Italy tour Saturday. Jim Boeheim has used a lot of different Syracuse basketball lineups and rotations in Italy, and Quincy Guerrier has already proved he will be the X-Factor for the Orange this year. When Guerrier — a 4-Star forward according to 247 Sports composite rankings — signed with Syracuse back in November, there wasn’t a lot of buzz in the Orange community. After another strong performance of 14 points and 10 boards vs Siena Select, it’s time people start realizing how important he will be for the Orange in 2019-20. Here’s why Quincy Guerrier will be a huge difference-maker this season: He’ll be a physical force. Guerrier does not look like a typical freshman, plain and simple. His body seems mature enough for the college game already, and when he gets a full head of steam, you don’t want to get in his way. The Quebec City product is 6 foot 7 inches and 210 pounds of muscle and looks like he is ready for the physicality of the ACC right away. Syracuse’s centers are tall and lanky this season, and may be able to get pushed around by big men in the conference, but Guerrier will surely be able to hold his ground. He could help solves the inside scoring problem Syracuse has. Ever since Rakeem Christmasleft Syracuse, the Orange haven’t had a center who can score in the post, and it will be the same again this year. However, Guerrier might be able to fill that role. Guerrier can play either inside or on the wing. His versatility will be a nice tool for Boeheim this season, but based on this roster, Syracuse is going to need points in the paint from Guerrier. The Orange are stacked with a bunch of perimeter players who can shoot 3’s, but that can’t be their whole offense. Guerrier looks like he will be able to to be someone who can get a basket inside the lane when called upon at moments in a game. We have seen a player like Guerrier in Orange before. In fact, it was just last season. Guerrier seems like a spitting image of Ohsae Brisset. Their bodies and playing styles are very similar, and Jim Boeheim is going to ask Guerrier to do things he asked Brisset to do last year, like rebounding, inside scoring, and shooting with confidence. Plus, they are both from Canada! ... https://247sports.com/college/syracuse/Article/Syracuse-Basketball-Italy-Syracuse-Football-Recruiting-Robert-Hanna-Kentron-Poitier-Latarie-Kinsler-Akeem-Mesidor-John-Garcia-Jr-CuseCast-Podcast-134559273/ (247sports.com; podcast; garcia & McAllister) We break down what was learned from Syracuse basketball's exhibition tour in Italy and how it impacts the 2019-20 season.
