Welcome to New Year's Eve!

In the Gregorian calendar, New Year's Eve, the last day of the year, is on 31 December. In many countries, New Year's Eve is celebrated at evening social gatherings, where many people dance, eat, drink, and watch or light fireworks. Some Christians attend a watchnight service. The celebrations generally go on past midnight into New Year's Day, 1 January.

Robert Braswell Deserves More Playing Time Once He Returns – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Shults)

Maybe it’s because he’s at a loaded position. No one is claiming he’s better than Marek Dolezaj or even Quincy Guerrier. But Robert Braswell deserves to play. He didn’t make the trek out of high school from South Carolina all the way to Syracuse to sit on the bench for a couple of seasons.

But for now Braswell could redshirt according to Syracuse.com. Shin injuries could result in Braswell ending his season prematurely. So far a decision has not been made, but it could be made within the next week according to Jim Boeheim. But once he returns, whether its this season or next, Braswell deserves more playing time.

So far this season Braswell is averaging a paltry 1.7 points per game. Syracuse’s woes won’t cease if Braswell plays. But he also doesn’t hurt the Orange. The sophomore has increased his three point range – and has hit four of six from deep on the season. At the very least, he’s a guy who isn’t afraid to take his shot when he’s open. Dolezaj has played 374 more minutes than Braswell but has taken the same amount of threes. He’s only hit one. Guerrier is a grimace inducing 2-17 from behind the arc.

Braswell seems to be the best shooting power forward for SU. Theoretically, he could spread the floor for SU with Buddy Boeheim, Elijah Hughes, and maybe Joe Girard on the floor. Don’t get it twisted, Braswell probably isn’t a knockdown shooter. But he is a guy that defenses seem to take for granted.

ACC Basketball: 5 biggest questions for rest of 2019-20 season (bustingbrackets.com; Freeman)

ACC Basketball has all but finished up its non-conference schedule. What are some key questions for all the teams heading into the new year?

Is it fair to say that things have been “quiet” for ACC Basketball this season? Out of the 15 teams, only four are ranked (Duke, Louisville, Virginia and Florida State), with there being a clear drop-off with the other 11 teams. There have been a good amount of disappointing results, with some success sprinkled in. But considering the amount of talent that left the ACC this past offseason, this isn’t a surprise for most observers.

What it does set up though, is a very competitive slate of conference battles. There are a number of bubble teams still with a legit shot of making the NCAA Tournament, with some teams at the bottom such as Wake Forest, Boston College and Clemson showing signs that they’re capable of pulling off some upsets.
There are many questions that I have with ACC Basketball going forward, so I asked a few of my peer writers here at Busting Brackets. I offered five burning questions I had and gathered their responses for this article.

Here are the participants for this roundtable:

Florida State depth developing as Seminoles prepare to enter ACC play (tallahassee.com; Weiler)

As the lone four-year senior on this year's Florida State men's basketball team, Trent Forrest knows what it takes to win at the highest level.

He's been a part of a level of success in his time with the Seminoles unlike any in recent program history. He also knew the challenge that the Seminoles faced this season having six new players on the roster as they set out to replace six major pieces off last year's team.

There was a time before the season when Forrest was unsure if the new Seminoles would be up to the task that lies ahead against a tough ACC schedule.

"Throughout summer, me and some of the coaches, I would meet with them and I would just be like, 'I don't know if these guys are going to be ready,'" Forrest said.

With No. 20 FSU (11-2, 1-1 in ACC) set to begin a stretch of 18 straight conference games with a home stint against Georgia Tech (6-6, 1-1) Tuesday at noon, it's safe to say that the beginning stretch of FSU's season has changed Forrest's mind.

"They've definitely exceeded my expectations and done more," Forrest said.

"I couldn't be more happy for those guys."

FSU has been led by consistent performances from a number of veterans this season as Forrest, sophomore Devin Vassell and junior M.J. Walker are all averaging more than 10 points.

Miami Basketball gets back to ACC Play at Clemson: Game Info (caneswarning.com; Rubenstein)

After a 10 day layoff, the Miami basketball team returns with a New Year’s Eve matinee at Clemson. The Hurricanes travel to South Carolina with a four-game winning streak and are 8-3, 0-1 on the season.
The Miami basketball team has situated itself for a chance to make a run at an NCAA Tournament berth after sitting out last season following three straight bids. The Hurricanes lost their season opener to Louisville and struggled offensively early before the recent four-game winning streak. Now Miami gets back to ACC play.
Miami has played only four games this month prior to traveling to Clemson on New Year’s Eve. They began the month with a key road win at Illinois in the Big Ten ACC Challenge and defeated Temple by one point in Brooklyn two weeks ago. The Hurricanes are currently 83rd in the Net Ratings that replace the RPI.

A win at Clemson would go a long way towards helping the Miami basketball program back to the NCAA Tournament. Clemson is currently 6-6 and113th in the net ratings. Winning at Clemson would be a quadrant two victory for the Hurricanes. Clemson has struggled since advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 2018.

The Tigers were 20-14 last season and lost at home to Wichita State in the second round of the NIT. Clemson has only two NCAA Appearances in 10 years under head coach Brad Brownell. The first came in his inaugural season with the Tigers in 2011. Brownell could be on the hot seat after the 2019-20 season.
