Welcome
to Clashing Clothes Day!

When something clashes, it comes into conflict with, or disagrees with something else. In today's instance, the things that are clashing are the colors on clothes. On most days the goal is to make clothes match, but not today! Today is Clashing Clothes Day!
How to Observe

In order to make sure you are getting your clothes to clash, start by avoiding neutral colors such as black, white, and gray. Navy and brown also match well with a lot of other colors, so don't wear them either. Then mix three or four other colors and see what you can come up with. You'll be clashing in no time!

Road Revenge: Syracuse defeats Notre Dame (Brent Axe recap) (RX; HM)

Are we sure Syracuse and Notre Dame can’t play more than twice this season?

The Syracuse University men’s basketball team picked up a thrilling 84-82 victory in South Bend, Ind. on Wednesday night for its fourth straight win.

The Orange and Irish could meet again in the ACC Tournament. I’d rather they meet again next week.

The two games between Syracuse and Notre Dame have been flat-out fun to watch. The Irish squeaked out a 88-87 win in the first game at the Carrier Dome back on January 4.

“We’ve had two great games with them," Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim said.

The Orange checked off another team on its road revenge tour as it has now defeated all three ACC teams that previously beat them at the Dome this season (Virginia, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame).

The win didn’t come without more drama.

Syracuse rallied from an 11-point deficit in the first half, then led by as many as 13 points in the second half. Notre Dame went on an 18-4 run to take a 69-68 lead in the second half, but Syracuse scored 10 of the game’s next 11 points as Elijah Hughes gave the Orange a 78-70 lead with a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left.

SU at Notre Dame: Howard Washington’s injury status, plus nice minutes for Brycen Goodine (PS; Ditota)

Howard Washington did not warm up with his Syracuse team before the Notre Dame game and sat on the SU bench in his warmups during the Orange win.

Afterward, Orange coach Jim Boeheim announced that Washington had sprained his ankle during Tuesday’s practice, “so he couldn’t go” against the Irish.

So when Buddy Boeheim collected his third foul with 3 minutes and 34 seconds left in the first half, Jim Boeheim summoned Brycen Goodine from the bench.

Goodine, who broke his nose in a Syracuse practice close to the New Year, played five minutes in SU’s blowout win at home against Boston College. He did not play at Virginia Tech.

But he made an impression in South Bend.

He grabbed two offensive rebounds. While he watched from the bench, he said, he noticed Notre Dame was ignoring the SU guards from a rebounding perspective. He vowed to sneak into an open spot and collect an offensive board.

Goodine, who won SU’s preseason 3-point shooting competition during the team’s Orange-White scrimmage, had been 0-for-13 from the 3-point line in games that counted this season. He said he struggled to find a shooting rhythm, to figure out the best circumstances to attempt a 3.

He lined one up on the left wing against Notre Dame and let it fly. The ball dropped and SU owned a 44-42 advantage.

“The past week," Goodine said, “I got a lot of shots up to prepare because I knew I would get at least one shot, so I had to knock it down when I had the chance.”

Quick Recap: Notre Dame Men’s Basketball Loses a Close One to Syracuse, 84-82 (onefootdown.com; Kelly)

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Men’s basketball team (11-6, 2-4) returned to Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, to face the Syracuse Orange (11-7, 4-3). This was the 52nd meeting between the two teams, with Syracuse coming into the game holding a 29-22 advantage in the series. The two teams have a long history, meeting for the first time on February 12, 1914, in Achbold Gym at Syracuse. This match-up against Syracuse was Notre Dame’s third ACC home game of the season. The Irish join Georgia Tech as the only ACC teams to face five conference opponents on the road in their first eight games of the league schedule.

The Irish got the opening tip but couldn’t convert their opening possession into points. On Syracuse’s first possession, however, they were able to get a two-point shot to sink. It didn’t take the Irish long to get on the board, though, with T.J. Gibbs sinking his first three-point-shot at 18:59, followed by another Gibbs three at 18:25. Syracuse, got their first three at 17:35, and Juwan Durham answered with a quick two-point shot. With only a few minutes off the clock (16:14), the score was tied at 12, and it looked like this was going to be a close one all night long.

The next Notre Dame player to sink a three-point shot would be Dane Goodwin (13:39), followed by a three by Nate Laszewski (13:13), and very quickly Notre Dame was up by 8 points 23-15 Irish. Syracuse’s Bourama Sidibe answered Notre Dame’s three-point shots with a dunk, and then each team would trade buckets, bringing the score to 25-19 (11:52), Notre Dame up.

The threes would just keep on falling for the Irish, with Laszewski sinking another one at 11:26, but Syracuse would send a message back with a dunk by Quincy Guerrier. (30-21, Irish) And then the Orange turned the scoring on, going on a 13-0 run, and pulling to within two points (32-30 Syracuse). The Irish were getting plenty of looks, but nothing seemed to fall until Dane Goodwin hit a three to go back up by one point. The Orange responded with a three-point shot, and then the Irish tied the game at 35-35 on a two-point shot by John Mooney. (6:09 Media Timeout)

State college basketball: Notre Dame, Evansville suffer losses (indystar.com; Staff)

Syracuse 84, Notre Dame 82: Elijah Hughes scored 26 points and Syracuse continued to be at its best on the road with an 84-82 comeback victory over Notre Dame on Wednesday night.

The Orange (12-7, 5-3) improved to 4-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference road play and won their fourth straight game overall.

The Fighting Irish (11-7, 2-5) remained winless in three ACC home games.

John Mooney scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. His 12th consecutive double-double breaks an 11-year-old Notre Dame record held by Luke Harangody.

The Irish, though, lost despite erasing a 13-point second-half deficit. They trailed 64-51 with 13 minutes, 47 seconds remaining, then took a one-point lead – 69-68 – with six minutes remaining.

The Orange won after trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half.

Joseph Girard III scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Syracuse. Bourama Sidibe added 12 points on 6 of 6 from the field and Buddy Boeheim scored 10.

Dane Goodwin scored 15 points off the bench for the Irish. T.J. Gibbs added 13 and Nate Laszewski 11.

Syracuse won after losing 88-87 at home to Notre Dame 19 days earlier.

Much like that first meeting, the rematch featured a blistering back-and-forth pace. There were 16 lead changes this time after 18 in the previous matchup.

BIG PICTURE

Syracuse:

The ACC has an unusually low three ranked teams right now – No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Louisville and No. 8 Duke – but the surging Orange still have plenty of opportunities to make hay with the NCAA Tournament selection committee. Syracuse still plays all three ranked teams, with only the Blue Devils at home.

Fall off the bone BBQ at Auburn’s Route 20 Grill & Tap (Dining out review) (PS; Paventi)

Perched in the corner of the dining room was our first clue the Route 20 Grill & Tap in Auburn doesn’t take itself too seriously. The stuffed gorilla kept watch over the dining room during our recent Friday evening visit. Like us, most of the people there were looking for the ribs.

Half ($19) and full racks ($27) of St. Louis-style ribs were dry rubbed and smoked until a thick bark formed on the outside. Quite a few racks emerged from the kitchen and we were not disappointed with ours. The fall-off-the-bone tender ribs did not show much visible fat, which had mostly melted away and basted the meat. The house dry rub imparted a spice, which complemented the smoke well.

Barbecue is the calling card of the Route 20 Grill & Tap—located about halfway between Skaneateles and Auburn—and its head chef Richard Taradejna. Better known by his nickname Chef Flip, Taradejna is a certified Kansas City Barbecue Society judge and competitor and his background includes a stint at the now closed Copper Pig BBQ & Taproom in Auburn.

The décor is best described as eclectic. Rustic, knotty pine chairs and tables fill the dining area, as do beer and vintage gas station tacker signs. Look up and you’ll find farming implements hanging from the rafters, along with the stuffed gorilla.

So which one of the golfers above is the younger Tomcat?
JB was the HC of the SU golf team in the late 1960s to early 1970s. While I am old and I am a golfer, I do not believe I am one of the very sharp dressed men in this photo.

However, the guy in the front row, on the far left, with the most excellent and groovy striped pants looks like it could be GoSU96's father.
