National Trail Mix Day is dedicated to the snack mix of sustenance, which was conceived to be taken along on hikes. It is easy to carry and usually nutritious, often containing raisins, nuts, and granola. Chocolate is often also added. It's at least been around since 1910, when it was mentioned in Horace Kephart's The Book of Camping and Woodcraft. In many European countries it is known as "student snack" or "student food", and many hikers refer to trail mix as "gorp". This may be an acronym for "good old raisins and peanuts" or "granola, oats, raisins, peanuts."

Syracuse Basketball: Benny Williams ‘is a no-brain five-star prospect’ (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball 2021 commit Benny Williams could end up one of best to play on the Hill this century, a national analyst says.
Syracuse basketball commit Benny Williams is a top-55 player in the 2021 recruiting cycle who will compete for a powerhouse prep program this fall and is getting a ton of high praise from a pair of national analysts.
One of those analysts, Eric Bossi, recently published a piece in which he looked at 10 prospects in the 2021 class who will fit in well with the college teams that they’ve committed to, and Williams is among those included.
Bossi has this to say, in part, about the 6-foot-8, four-star small forward. “The Orange have a long tradition of success with guys just like Williams. He’s a bit of a combo forward with the size and length to fit in well at either the bottom or top of their zone. Offensively, he’s good in the mid-range, tremendous along the baseline and is starting to extend his skill facing the basket.”
Williams recently announced that he is transferring from St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Md., to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for his senior stanza.
Hopefully, he can help with the recruitment of Syracuse basketball target and five-star small forward Jarace Walker, who also attends the IMG Academy and is a top-10 prospect in the 2022 class.

Carrier Dome renovations continue ahead of football season-opener (DO; Hamer)
Though the coronavirus pandemic shut down Syracuse’s campus in March, the $118 million Carrier Dome renovations have continued.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order on March 20 required all nonessential workers to stay home, but construction workers were not included, allowing renovations to the Dome to continue.
Syracuse Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala said at a press conference Aug. 7 that renovations remain on track for the Dome to be operational for SU’s football home-opener against Georgia Tech on Sept. 26.
“I’m very confident,” Sala said. “I’m watching what’s going up, I know when things are supposed to be in town in Syracuse. The workforce is very, very, very dedicated.”
The renovations, announced in May 2018, include accessibility measures to comply with guidelines from the Americans with Disabilities Act, improved WiFi and a four-sided video board in the stadium’s center. While other universities’ recent stadium renovations have focused on increasing capacity, SU was able to modernize in different areas because the Dome already seats nearly 50,000 people.
The main priority ahead of the football opener is ensuring upgrades to the field’s surface are completed. The track surface, which goes under the field turf, was in “pretty rough shape,” Sala said. Much of that has now been stripped away and is set to be levelled, with installation occurring in the last week of the project, Sala said.

Rutgers Basketball: Knights flying under the radar in Big Ten for 2020-21 (bustingbrackets.com; Freeman)
A number of Big Ten programs have gotten better this offseason due to roster moves. That could actually be of benefit to Rutgers Basketball for the upcoming season.
Compared to many of the other Big Ten programs, it’s been a fairly quiet offseason overall for Rutgers Basketball. There were no players who entered the NBA Draft early, and only reserve guard Peter Kiss left the team through the transfer portal.
With the exception of graduating senior Akwasi Yeboah, the Scarlet Knights return the vast majority of a team who won 20 games and was on track to make the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991. With top-50 incoming freshman center Cliff Omoruyi arriving, the expectations will be for them to get at least 20 wins again this upcoming season.
Is that realistic though? The Big Ten may be as strong at the top as it’s ever been thanks to what else happened this offseason. With reigning Conference Player of the Year Luka Garza returning for his senior season, the Iowa Hawkeyes are a preseason top-15 team. The same goes for the Illinois Illini after stars Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn elected to come back as well.

Cuomo says update on reopening NY casinos coming this week (PS; $; Weaver)
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he’ll have an announcement this week on commercial casinos, one of the very few businesses that remain completely shuttered since the coronavirus pandemic hit months ago.
Cuomo has been criticized for excluding the state’s four commercially run casinos from any reopening efforts, even as gambling establishments run by Native American nations have reopened.
Casino owners have warned the delayed reopening effort could cost the state 5,000 jobs.
“We’re trying to find a balance,” Cuomo said today during a conference call with reporters. “I understand people’s anger and frustration. I do.”
