Welcome to Unity Day! Bullying is a pervasive ill that by one measure affects one in five youths. On Unity Day, those who are bullied are shown that they aren't alone when people come together to wear and display orange. The color shows that those displaying it are against bullying, and are also united in kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. They wear orange for hope and to show support, and to show that no youth should experience bullying. The day brings together youth, parents, teachers, businesses, and community members to say that bullying is unacceptable and that students deserve to be safe. Unity Day was founded in 2011 by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center, an organization that "actively leads social change to prevent childhood bullying, so that all youth are safe and supported in their schools, communities, and online." The organization has been around since 2006, and also started National Bullying Prevention Month, which takes place during October, of which Unity Day is the signature event. Orange was chosen as the color for the day for a few reasons. It is a vibrant color, which means it can easily convey a message, such as unity, when many people display it together. The color is also often associated with the month of October and with Autumn, as well as with safety and visibility. The color orange becomes a conversation starter. Individuals wear it and display it on social media, students use it in a number of ways at school, businesses offer orange products, and officials light city landmarks with the color today. SU News Syracuse Basketball's Numbers to Know for 2020-21 10/21 from Locked On Syracuse - Daily Podcast On Syracuse Orange Football & Basketball (stitcher.com; radio; Leonard & Aki) Basketball is around the corner and there are some very intriguing numbers surrounding Syracuse's offense and defense. Which ones are you buying that can continue into next season and where can the Orange improve in order to be squarely in the tournament? Also, the major areas that Buddy Boeheim and Joe Girard can improve on to become one of the most dangeous backcourts in the ACC. Plus, some disagreements about the strengths and weaknesses for the upcoming 2-3 zone. Tim Leonard and Tyler Aki discuss it all and more on the Wednesday Locked on Syracuse Podcast. Three weeks later, that door has closed. Oak Hill Academy coach Steve Smith confirmed on Monday that Johnson, one of the highest-rated recruits in the 2022 class, will not be allowed to return to the prep school or its prominent basketball program. Smith declined to discuss the matter further. ... Syracuse Basketball: Could Dior Johnson Orange tenure be in jeopardy? (itlh; Adler) Syracuse basketball coaches are concerned that 2022 commit Dior Johnson could end up putting himself in a precarious academic position, per a report. On Monday, I penned an article where I opined that Syracuse basketball 2022 commit Dior Johnson likely was done at the Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., although nothing official had come across from either Johnson or the prep school. Then, on Tuesday, Mike Waters of Syracuse.com broke the news that Johnson “will not be allowed to return to the prep school or its prominent basketball program,” according to Waters’ report, citing Oak Hill Academy head coach Steve Smith. The 6-foot-3 Johnson, a five-star point guard in his junior season of high school, had left the Oak Hill Academy a few weeks ago to reportedly rehab a stress fracture in his foot, but media reports said that he had not withdrawn from the powerhouse prep-school program. Now, Johnson’s short-lived career at the Oak Hill Academy is over, and it’s unfortunate. I really had looked forward to watching Johnson suit up alongside Orange 2022 high-priority target Zion Cruz, a five-star guard, at the Oak Hill Academy. Cruz, by the way, recently revealed that he would transfer to The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J. Syracuse basketball 2022 commit Dior Johnson, sadly, is done at the Oak Hill Academy. ... Other https://youtu.be/B1nKO3CTkHU Video: Here's what Syracuse University in the fall looks like (DO; Skystad) Autumn is one of the most photographed times of the year at Syracuse University. The falling leaves, crisp wind and colder weather make for a reminder that winter is on the way. The SU campus and the surrounding area become especially vibrant with leaves turning from green colors to orange and yellow. Many students spend their time outside in the changing atmosphere unless the rain has already started. Fall’s beginning marks the colder months to come and provides an undoubtedly changing atmosphere to campus.
