Gryffindor is one of the four houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter novels and films. Celebrated by fans of Harry Potter, Gryffindor Pride Day is part of Hogwarts House Pride Week. In the series, students are "Sorted" into one of the houses when they start their first year at the school. The Gryffindor house founder, Godric Gryffindor, instructed the Sorting Hat to choose house members based on certain traits and characteristics that he places a high value on, including bravery, nerve, courage, determination, and chivalry. Some prominent Gryffindors are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, as well as Molly Weasley and Remus Lupin.
Gryffindor house corresponds with the element of fire. This being the case, the colors of scarlet and gold represent the house. The house's symbol or mascot is the lion, which the colors of fire are also associated with: gold represents the coat, while scarlet represents the mane and tail. Together, the visual representation of the house is similar
to the historical English coat of arms.

Buddy Buckets keeps trending, keeps pulling Syracuse teammates along on a wild postseason ride (PS; $; Ditota)
It seems, at this point, like something scripted for a sentimental sports movie.
The shots, for Buddy Boeheim, keep falling. For the past six games, the son of the Syracuse coach is averaging 26 points, shooting .540 overall and .485 from the 3-point line.
The numbers, staggering enough without context, are magnified by the weight of these games and the paternal lineage of the shooter. Syracuse, once existing in NCAA tournament purgatory, desperately needed wins against those six teams to sneak into the tournament and then prove they belonged once they arrived.
Syracuse beat West Virginia 75-72 Sunday night to reach the Sweet 16. And as gigantic a storyline as that victory was for the Orange, Buddy Boeheim’s rapid, resilient ascension continues to grab headlines.
Buddy Buckets, as the national TV people like to call him, keeps trending, keeps pulling along his teammates on a wild late-season ride.

The Sweetest Thing: SU defeats WVU 75-72 (Brent Axe recap) (PS; $; Axe)
No one does it better as a double-digit seed than Syracuse.
With its 75-72 squeaker over West Virginia on Sunday night, the 11th-seeded Orange earned a Sweet 16 bid for the third time in six years as a 10 seed or higher in the NCAA Tournament.
It just proves that if you give Syracuse an invite to the party, they’ll come through with a keg.
As much success as Syracuse has had as a bubble team in recent years, this edition of the Orange had its doubts along the path to stay in Indianapolis for another week.
“If you were to ask me a month or two months ago, where I think we would be, I don’t think I would say Sweet 16, that’s for sure,’' Syracuse guard Buddy Boeheim said. “This team just never gave up. We just kept playing. It’s just amazing to be part of this team.’'

Boeheim's 25 send Syracuse, dad into Sweet 16 (ESPN; Rittenberg)
At halftime of the Syracuse-West Virginia game Sunday, one of Orange coach Jim Boeheim's best players ever approached Boeheim's youngest son.
Syracuse assistant Gerry McNamara had a simple message for junior guard Buddy Boeheim: Keep shooting. Even if you miss 200 shots.
Boeheim followed through, scoring 22 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as No. 11 seed Syracuse held off No. 3 seed West Virginia 75-72 in the second round of the NCCA tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Orange advance to the Sweet 16, their 20th under Jim Boeheim. Buddy Boeheim continued his brilliant postseason -- he's averaging 28.3 points with 24 3-pointers in two ACC tournament games and two NCCA tournament games -- as Syracuse advanced to its third Sweet 16 as a double-digit seed since 2016.
According to research by the Elias Sports Bureau, Buddy Boeheim's 55 points in the first two NCCA tournament games mark the third-most in team history, trailing Gary Clark (60 in 1957) and McNamara (56 in 2004).
"There's no one better than G-Mac," Buddy Boeheim said. "He'll always be the best shooter who came to Syracuse. Just being able to work with him every day is a dream come true for me. Just being around him every day, taking knowledge from him. ... 'You're the best shooter on the planet' is what he usually tells me, and I say, 'Yeah.' He knows how to motivate me. He knows I need confidence sometimes. He's like a big brother to me, and something I'll cherish forever."

Again, Syracuse makes Sweet 16 as double-digit seed (AP)
For the third time since 2016, Syracuse is headed to the Sweet 16 as a double-digit seed.
In all, nine double-digit seeds have reached the regional semifinals in that time span — so the Orange have accounted for one third of them.
Later on Sunday, 15th-seeded Oral Roberts and 12th-seeded Oregon State joined that list as well.
Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim once again made it past the first weekend after barely qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. The Orange edged third-seeded West Virginia after knocking off San Diego State in the first round.
"It's hard to make the Sweet 16. Look around. Look at some of the teams that are out," Boeheim said. "When I started coaching, we thought you're supposed to do that. I think we went to 14 or 15 Sweet 16s, and some of them I don't even think we celebrated. ... But it's very hard. There's so many good teams."
Oral Roberts followed its big upset of Ohio State with a win over Florida, and Oregon State ousted Oklahoma State.
Here are the six double-digit seeds who made the Sweet 16 from 2016-19:
2016 SYRACUSE (No. 10 seed)
The Orange blew out Dayton, then caught a break when 15th-seeded Middle Tennessee dispatched Michigan State in the first round. That made the path to the Sweet 16 easier, and Syracuse actually made it all the way to the Final Four with wins over Gonzaga and top-seeded Virginia.

Buddy Boeheim gets dad back to Sweet 16 as Syracuse tops WVU (AP)
Buddy Boeheim kept shooting, carrying his Hall of Fame father and 11th-seeded Syracuse back into the Sweet 16.
The Orange, a top program for four decades under Jim Boeheim, once again showed they're just as dangerous as an NCAA Tournament afterthought.
“To win two games and be doubted in both, the underdog, this means everything,” Buddy Boeheim said. “If you were to ask me a month or two months ago where I think we would be, I don’t think I would say Sweet 16, that’s for sure.”
“Buckets” Boeheim scored 22 of his 25 points after halftime to lead the Orange past third-seeded West Virginia 75-72 on Sunday. Syracuse (18-9) advanced to face second-seeded Houston in a Midwest Regional semifinal.
The Orange were a bubble team this year, a familiar spot of late. They won their last two regular-season games and once in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament to sneak into the field.
Now they're heading to Jim Boeheim's 20th Sweet 16, thanks to his 6-foot-6, sweet-shooting son.
“I mean, he’s just been playing great,” Jim said. “He’s been putting the ball on the floor and getting his own shot. Teammates have been looking for him.

What they’re saying about SU men’s basketball after win over West Virginia (PS; $; Carlson)
The Syracuse men’s basketball team might be making a habit of sneaking into the NCAA tournament in recent years. But it’s still continuing to win multiple games when it does.
With a 75-72 win over No. 3 seed West Virginia in the second round Sunday, the Orange advanced to the Sweet 16 as a double-digit seed for the third time in the past six seasons.
Syracuse has now been among the final 16 teams playing in seven of the past 13 years, a stretch that included one year with a canceled tournament and another with a self-imposed postseason ban for NCAA violations.
Syracuse’s reputation as a team you don’t want to meet, regardless of its regular-season performance, was a hot topic after the game, as was the success of the father-son duo of Jim and Buddy Boeheim.

Zoned Out: West Virginia exits NCAA Tournament with upset loss to Syracuse (smokingmusket.com; Wask)
Like a broken record it is always said that the Syracuse zone is hard to prepare for. It’s hard to understand all of the wrinkles, how the zone shifts on the fly, how it adapts when you exploit a weakness. West Virginia proved it was true in the first half on its way to succumbing to the Orange in Indy on Sunday.
This matchup of old Big East foes started withe the Mountaineers having a deer-in-the-headlights look as they got up close and personal with the zone. Combined with a hot shooting start by Syracuse left the Mountaineers down 14, 30-16 with five minutes to go in the first half. West Virginia would rally and cut the deficit to six at half time as they began to figure out the zone.
Score at half, Syracuse 35, WVU 29.
Syracuse would strike first in the second stanza on a wing three by Marek Dolzaj. The Mountaineers responded with an Emmitt Matthew dunk on a great assist by Miles McBride.
With 9:53 to go, Sean McNeil’s third trifecta actually gave the Mountaineers the lead, 63-62.
Syracuse continued their hot shooting down the stretch, holding off the WVU surge after a couple of lead changes.
With :54 to go, West Virginia found themselves down 9 points when a McNeil triple cut the lead to six. A smothering press and layups by Emmitt Matthews and Taz Sherman, and an inbounding infraction the refs blatantly chose not to call, brought the Mountaineers within two to 74-72.
Buddy Boeheim made 1-2 free throws at the end of the game but a buzzer beater was not to be.
West Virginia’s seasons ends with a 75-72 loss to the Orange.
McNeil led the Mountaineers with 23 points, making 7 of 13 three points attempts. McBride finished with 11 points, seven assists and three steals.

Syracuse Basketball: 4-star J.J. Starling among those in GEICO Nationals (itlh; Adler)
Syracuse basketball 2022 target J.J. Starling, a four-star point guard and former star at Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, N.Y., is among those who will participate in the 2021 GEICO Nationals, a tournament held to help crown a high-school national champion.
Starling’s current team, the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., where he resides in his junior season, is part of the 10-squad field, according to an article by Jordan Divens, the national basketball editor for MaxPreps.
The 2021 GEICO Nationals will take place from March 31 to April 3 at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers, Fla.
The La Lumiere School, the event’s No. 10 seed, will suit up against the No. 7 seed, Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif., on Wednesday, March 31.
Prolific Prep is where Orange freshman center Frank Anselem played, and it is also the current school of 2022 four-star wing Kamari Lands, who holds a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse and is a junior at Prolific Prep.
In the most recent MaxPreps top-25 rankings, Prolific Prep checks in at No. 13.
Some other prospects with Syracuse basketball offers are in this year’s GEICO Nationals.
The No. 3 seed in this event is the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., which is also ranked No. 4 nationally in the MaxPreps top 25.Jarace Walker, a 2022 five-star forward, is a junior at the IMG Academy. He landed an offer from the Orange in June of 2020, although several other teams, including North Carolina, are receiving buzz for Walker, according to recruiting analysts.

Big upset day in NCAAs: Has the mid-major revolution begun? (AP; Litke)
In any other college basketball season, four upsets in the eight second-round games played at the NCAA Tournament would be a sign that something big is brewing.
Were those the opening shots in the long-rumored mid-major revolution? Have enough talented kids and smart coaches finally taken up residence at programs outside the Big Six to nudge the balance of power?
Hard to say. Because this one isn’t like any other season.
Just two of the teams that won Sunday qualify as mid-majors: eighth-seeded Loyola of Chicago, which manhandled No. 1 seed Illinois from the get-go and won 71-58; and 15th-seeded Oral Roberts, which used a late run to squeeze past Florida 81-78. The other two upsets were No. 15 Oregon State fending off third-seeded Oklahoma State 80-70, and No. 11 Syracuse smothering third-seeded West Virginia just enough to win 75-72.
But it felt like the little guys’ day. After becoming only the second No. 15 seed to make the Sweet 16, ORU coach Paul Mills updated his numbers-don’t-mean-anything postgame speech from the upset over Ohio State.
“We,” Mills said bravely, since his Golden Eagles will face No. 3 Arkansas in the next round, “are not capitulating to anybody here.″
Meanwhile, four more of the 16 teams in action Monday can call themselves mid-majors, including overall top seed Gonzaga, and two more, Creighton and Ohio, who are playing each other. If Abilene Christian somehow manages to pull the rug out from under UCLA, that’s three more mid-majors for a total of five in the Sweet 16. Which would indeed be something big.
But it’s possible, too, that something a bit more subtle is going on.
Because of the pandemic, teams had to navigate a stop-and-start regular season, then slapdash conference tournaments and then get seeded by an NCAA selection committee that, lacking the usual comparisons, might as well have been playing “Eenie meenie miney mo.”

Ferrari stolen in Italy 18 years ago found in Buffalo: ‘There’s going to be a movie made about this’ (PS; $; Herbert)
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Western New York is looking for the rightful owner of a Ferrari stolen in Italy 18 years ago.
WIVB reports a 1996 Ferrari F50 was stolen in 2003 and then found during an inspection at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, N.Y., on December 14, 2019. The car was being transported across the border from Canada into the U.S. when Customs and Border Protection officers noticed some rivets on the VIN plate were covered with a black tar substance.
The vehicle, with 10,708 miles on it and worth an estimated $1.9 million, was determined to be stolen but the government has filed a civil action to determine who can take ownership of it.
According to The Buffalo News, two people are claiming it’s theirs. Ferrari’s records show the sports car was stolen from a hotel parking garage on March 30, 2003, just a month after an Italian man, Paolo Provenzi, bought it with his father and brother. And a Florida man, Mohammed Alsaloussi of Miami, says he bought it online for $1.435 million in September 2019 for his car collection.
