Welcome to National Entrepreneurs' Day!
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart, but for those who come up with ideas, take risks, and start businesses. National Entrepreneurs' Day recognizes, celebrates, and honors entrepreneurs, particularly those in the United States, for all the hard work they do. It was created in 2010 by David Hauser and Siamak Taghaddos—co-founders of Grasshopper, "the entrepreneur's phone system"—and Amir Tehrani, an entrepreneur and co-founder of The Legacy Foundation.
National Entrepreneurs' Day was started at a time when the country was still recovering from the Great Recession. Hauser and Taghaddos thought that "the only people who are going to turn around the economy and really create jobs are entrepreneurs." They wanted to create the day because they saw there was no single holiday that recognized individual entrepreneurs and the ways they've made the economy stronger and the country and world more innovative. They created National Entrepreneurs' Day as an American holiday that "celebrates the American men and women who promote entrepreneurship, business, innovation, and new jobs."

Syracuse Basketball: Did 5-member class make cut in new 2022 rankings? (itlh; Schwartz)
With the beginning of the 2021-22 season upon us and the early signing period in session, Sports Illustrated began to take a look towards the future class of 2022, and we’re examining where the Syracuse basketball five-member class is ranked.
Seven out of the 25 schools in these rankings reside out of the ACC, with the Orange’s five-man group of small forward Chris Bunch, shooting guard Justin Taylor, power forward/center Peter Carey, point guard Quadir Copeland, and power forward Maliq Brown cracking the list at #14.
In terms of another big takeaway off the bat, at least from a recruiting standpoint, it looks like Jon Scheyer’s Duke Blue Devils are here to stay, as Jason Jordan has them sitting pretty at #1. A part of their 4-man class that Scheyer has put together is athletic five-star forward Kyle Filipowski, a player once a high-priority target for the Cuse who spent the summer skyrocketing up recruiting rankings.
Filipowski took an official visit up to Central New York in early June, but ultimately became the first commit of the Jon Scheyer era, choosing the Blue Devils over a final group of Syracuse, Ohio State, and Indiana. As seen in the 247Sports class of 2022 rankings, Filipowski’s rise since his visit to Syracuse basketball in early June has been remarkable.

Jim Boeheim after Syracuse basketball's 2-0 start: 'We have to get better' (247sports.com; Weinstein)
Syracuse might be flying under the radar a bit after making the Sweet 16 last season as a No. 11 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but the Orange are off to a 2-0 start with easy wins over Lafayette and Drexel. Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim and company trailed Drexel by a point at halftime Sunday at the Carrier Dome but turned it on in the second half en route to a 75-60 victory over a Dragons team that made the NCAA Tournament last season as the Colonial Athletic Association's conference tournament winner. After the game, Boeheim indicated that he saw mixed results from the Orange's performance.
"First of all Drexel's, I think, a really good team," Boeheim said. "I thought that coming in there. I think they're even better than I thought. They were an NCAA (Tournament) team, so that's pretty good.
"... I thought they were really solid, but there's a lot of things we can get better at. And that's what you have to do when you start out the season — try to get better. But this was a really good team and a good game for us and we have a few days to practice and Colgate's a really good team coming in. And then after that they're all good. So that's that's how you get better."
Buddy Boeheim led Syracuse with 23 points while Jimmy Boeheim scored 14 points. The Orange's schedule now starts to ramp up with Colgate — a tough mid-major opponent — coming to town on Saturday followed by a trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Syracuse opens that tournament with a highly winnable game against VCU, but No. 9 Baylor could be waiting for the Orange in the second game.

SU Men’s Basketball Shows Resilience Out on the Court (waer.orgh; Klaff)
With two seconds left in the first half, Drexel’s Camren Wynter drained a jump shot to put the Dragons over the Orange 33-32. The majority of the half was wishy-washy for SU. At one point, the Orange’s 23-18 point lead turned into a five-point lead for the Dragons, also holding SU scoreless for five minutes.

Syracuse’s defense fell through in the first, allowing Drexel 14 total points off turnovers. SU’s offense wasn’t much stronger either.
“First half we were a little sluggish here and there. They were a good team, they punched us in the mouth early,” said 6’6” New York Native Buddy Boeheim.

Hitting the court again, Swider and Girard secured the first points of the second half with two three-pointers. Both plays were set-up by Boeheim. Buddy’s brother, Jimmy Boeheim ended the game recording 14 points. Buddy also led both sides with 23 total points and tallied four assists.
“The biggest thing was making adjustments at halftime. We came out with a fire and that was what set the tone going,” Buddy Boeheim added to how they made the change.

Syracuse Basketball: Benny Williams fierce block shows stellar athleticism (itlh; Adler)
He didn’t score a single point in the Syracuse basketball 15-point victory over Drexel on Sunday night in Central New York, but freshman forward Benny Williams gave us all a glimpse of his skill-set when he registered a beast-mode block absolutely worthy of an ESPN SportsCenter top-10 play.
With about five minutes remaining in the second half, and the Orange having extended its lead against the Dragons to double-digits, a Drexel player drove the lane, hoping to connect on a lay-up.
Nope. The 6-foot-8 Williams, so athletic and so bouncy, blocked that lay-up attempt, sending the ball a good 10 feet or more into the crowd. ‘Cuse fans erupted into applause, and Williams got high-fives from a plethora of his teammates.
This single play truly signifies what Williams brings to the Syracuse basketball roster, and by my estimation, it’s just the tip of the iceberg as to all the wonderful things that he will do in his hoops career on the Hill.
A consensus four-star prospect, Williams was rated five stars and in the top-25 overall within the 2021 cycle by some recruiting services. He had a strong senior year at the IMG Academy.

ACC Roundup: A Solid Night All Around (DBR; King)
Monday night’s ACC games went about as you might expect: Virginia Tech killed Radford 65-39, Clemson ran up the score on Bryant 93-70, Georgia Tech beat Lamar 75-66 and Louisville beat Navy 77-60.
Virginia Tech really had no problem with Radford, running up a 20-7 lead early. Tyrece Radford is gone but Storm Murphy is back with his former Wofford coach Mike Young and if you remember, UNC had a lot of trouble with that guy.
So did Radford: he was 6-7, 4-5 on threes for 17 points in 29 minute. He also had three assists and no turnovers.
Clemson doesn’t typically burn it up but against Bryant the Tigers shot 64 percent in the first half and 56 percent overall. PJ Hall? 7-13. Hunter Tyson? 8-13. Nick Honor? 6-10. And so on.
Clemson also had 20 assists on 35 shots which isn’t bad.
Better keep an eye on Dallan Coleman: the Yellow Jacket freshman came off the bench and hit 5-7 three pointers.Bet you Lamar didn't scout for that.
No Bubba Parham: he’s out indefinitely with a knee injury/surgery. It wasn’t a great night for Tech as energy was low, other than Coleman maybe.
Miami refugee Matt Cross is at Louisville now and doing well. He came off the bench for 14 points against Navy, giving him double figures in two out of three games.
Navy pretty much tanked in this game, much like they did against Virginia Tech, which makes you wonder how they managed to nuke Virginia out of the Top 25.
Samuell Willamson, for whatever reason, is coming off the bench. He added 13.
Currently Chris Mack is still under suspension for the Dino Gaudio Fiasco so Mike Pegues is running the show currently.

NCAA Basketball: Biggest power conference upsets in 1st week of 2021-22 (bustingbrackets.com; Kay)
*The Citadel 78 Pittsburgh 63
*Navy 66 Virginia 58
*UCF 95 Miami 89
*Furman 80 Louisville 72
The ACC barely outdid the PAC-12 in upsets this week. First, you had Navy defeat a top 25 ranked Virginia team on the Cavaliers home court. That was a shocking upset but when The Citadel went on the road and defeated Pittsburgh by 16, it was not looking like a good night for the ACC and it was about to get worse. Miami (OH) traveled to play Georgia Tech and somehow pulled off a three-point upset over the Yellowjackets.
With this being the opening night of the season, many college basketball fans were wondering if the ACC may end up being the worst power five basketball conference this season. Then Furman ended Louisville’s 59-game home winning streak for the month of November by defeating the Cardinals by eight. Lastly, not a big upset by any means but Miami losing to UCF at home ended a bad week for ACC basketball.
The Big Ten had a good week overall with the only upset occurring with Nebraska losing by one at home to Western Illinois. Ohio State found a way to escape an upset against Akron at home by winning by one point, Indiana only defeated Eastern Michigan by six at home after being outscored in the second half, and Rutgers needed overtime to defeat Lehigh by three. Not a great week overall by the Big Ten but on paper, 27-2 during week one play.
The Big 12 like the Big Ten had a good week overall and their only upset came against a good Oakland team that only lost on the road to West Virginia by seven and has a history of upsetting power five schools. Kansas defeated Michigan State on a neutral court, Iowa State beat Oregon State by 10, West Virginia dominated Pitt by 15, and the only other loss by a Big 12 team was Texas losing No. 1 ranked Gonzaga. Overall, the Big 12 was 16-2 during week one competition.

Times Union Center in Albany gets new name, adds Journey concert with Billy Idol (PS; $; Herbert)
The Times Union Center in Albany is officially getting a new name.
WNYT reports the arena will be renamed the MVP Arena starting Jan. 1, 2022. Albany County Executive Dan McCoy announced Monday that MVP Health Care will pay $600,000 a year for five years for the naming rights.
The Rochester-based insurance company will pay a total of $2 million per year as the deal also includes $1.4 million annually for an innovation fund to help grow attendance at events, according to the Times Union newspaper. MVP’s bid included potential initiatives like a community fitness court along the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail and a neighborhood farmer’s market in the atrium of the arena.
The venue was known as the Times Union Center for the past 15 years, but the Times Union newspaper decided against renewing the naming rights. It was originally called the Knickerbocker Arena when it opened in 1990 and was known as the Pepsi Arena from 1997 to 2006.
MVP Health beat out three other bidders for the deal with Albany County, including Berkshire Bank, MTX Group and Transfinder. MVP’s deal could be worth $30 million in total if the firm exercises its right to two five-year options.
Upcoming concerts at the MVP Arena include a Feb. 17 performance by John Mayer, a July 20 concert by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, and a newly announced show by Journey with Billy Idol on March 8. It will be the “Don’t Stop Believin’” band’s only stop in Upstate New York on their 2022 tour dates.
“It’s that time — time to get back to where we are used to being — on stage!” Journey guitarist Neal Schon said in a statement Monday. “We are looking forward to shifting into high gear and bringing you the best show possible. The band is running on all 12 cylinders and very excited! Please come and join us once again for an evening full of rocking stage connection fun. See you soon, friends.”
Tickets for Mayer and Waters are on sale via Live Nation; tickets for Journey with Idol will go on sale Friday, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m.

Syracuse basketball has a highly rated 2022 recruiting class.
