This is a day dedicated to ice cream sodas, also known as ice cream floats, which are drinks consisting of ice cream in a soft drink, or in flavored syrup and carbonated water. There are innumerable variations of the drink that can be made by changing the flavor of either the ice cream or the soft drink. Which variations are the most popular depend on where in the world you go. Most likely, Robert McCay Green invented the ice cream soda in 1874, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the semicentennial for the Franklin Institute. It is believed that Green ran out of ice for the cold drinks he was selling, so he used some ice cream from a nearby vendor, thus creating the new type of drink. By Green's account, the ice cream soda's creation was no accident, but something he worked to create so that it could be used to lure customers away from a bigger, fancier soda fountain, to his own. There are other accounts of how the ice cream soda was invented, but the story of Green is the most prominent. It didn't take long for the ice cream soda to gain in popularity, and it was served at soda fountains across the country.

Syracuse And Canisius To Meet In November - Syracuse University Athletics (cuse.com)
Syracuse and Canisius will meet for the first time since 2012 when the Orange host the Golden Griffins on Wednesday, November 8, in the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Orange were 17-15 a season ago in the last year of Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim's 47-year tenure. Adrian Autry, a former standout player and associate head coach with the Orange, enters his first year in charge of the Syracuse program. The Orange return starting guard Judah Mintz (16.3 ppg., 4.6 apg.), a member of the All-ACC Rookie Team, and forward Benny Williams (7.2 ppg., 4.1 rpg.), a junior).
Syracuse men’s basketball: West Virginia’s mess doesn’t make a Jesse Edwards return likely (TNIAAM; Chiappone & Wall)
Over the weekend the West Virginia Mountaineers’ men’s basketball team was thrown into total flux. Syracuse Orange fans quickly pointed out some indirect implications back in the 315.
To recap, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on Friday in Pittsburgh. Huggins recorded a blood alcohol level of .210, more than twice the legal limit in Pennsylvania, while police found empty beer cans in his vehicle. Less than a day following reports of Huggins’ arrest on June 16 - just over a month after using a homophobic slur during a radio show in Cincinnati - Huggins resigned on Saturday as the West Virginia coach.
Huggins spearheaded a productive transfer portal cycle over the course of this offseason - including the addition of All-ACC third team Syracuse center Jesse Edwards (14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.7 blocks per game last season), one of the best transfer players available per 247Sports and ESPN.
Speculation over the state of the West Virginia roster, including Edwards to an extent, began shortly after Huggins’ resignation. Immediately, the question has been asked by some Syracuse fans: can Edwards actually return to the Orange for the 2023-2024 season?

Syracuse basketball gets into the fray for 4-star, top-60 prospect from D.C. (itlh; Adler)
As the contact period recently opened up for the 2025 class, Syracuse basketball coaches have offered a scholarship to a four-star combo guard from the fertile Washington, D.C., market.
On June 15, college coaches could start initiating direct communication with 2025 high-school prospects, and media reports suggest that the Orange coaching staff has reached out to a variety of players in this cycle.
One 2025 prospect who has picked up a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball is four-star, top-60 national player Derek Dixon. He disclosed the ‘Cuse offer via Twitter. Some of his other newer scholarship offers have arrived from Xavier, Penn State and Maryland.
According to recruiting services, Dixon’s offer sheet also includes Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Bryant, George Mason, Fordham, East Carolina and Norfolk State.
Per a recent tweet from Tom Keller, the vice president of scouting in the Northeast region for ELITE High School Scouting, Dixon has heard from a variety of teams since the contact period opened up on June 15, including Marquette, Providence, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Virginia, Arizona and Indiana, among others.

Jazz Fest, ‘Scared Scriptless,’ cooking class: 11 things to do in CNY this week (PS; Struck)
Get ready for Syracuse’s annual Jazz Fest this weekend, with two legendary headliners: Herbie Hancock and Gladys Knight. They’ll perform this weekend on Clinton Square, but music will kickoff Wednesday night. There are a few events as well for the official Juneteenth holiday on Monday, and a Soul food cooking demonstration at the Salt City Market. “Clue” the theater production will wrap up this week and Friday night music and the Inner Harbor will kick off. There’s hiking, more music and an improv comedy show from the guys from “Who’s Line Is it Anyways?”

Juneteenth celebrations
Monday marks the official Juneteenth holiday, and there are events around Syracuse and Upstate to commemorate the day. Syracuse Juneteenth will host an “All White Affair” dinner on the Everson Community Plaza in celebration of Syracuse’s barber shops and beauty salons. Tickets are $55 through Eventbrite and the dinner runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Also on Monday, the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum in Peterboro will have a tour of a site on the NY Underground Railroad Trail and several scholar talks. This is the last weekend to see Syracuse Stage’s production of “Clue” based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn. Farce meets murder mystery in this theatrical adaptation of the famed board game and 1985 motion picture. Jazz Fest
Syracuse’s annual Jazz Fest will kick off on Wednesday and continue through Sunday this year, with shows all over the city. On Wednesday, Syracuse-area artists will perform indoors and outdoors in clubs, bars and restaurants around downtown between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. On Thursday, the acts will move to Hanover Square, then to Clinton Square on Friday and Saturday, and finally will wrap up on Sunday on Syracuse University’s campus.
