Welcome to Giving Tuesday!
GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that kicks off the charitable giving season. Coming just after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it was created in part as a response to the commercialism and consumerism of those days. It was started in 2012 at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that has focused on values such as service and giving since its founding in 1874. The Belfer Center partnered with the United Nations Foundation in the days' creation. The day has been sustained by the founders, as well as a team of influencers, including CEOs from various companies, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which has provided leadership support. On the day, a diverse group of individuals and organizations—nonprofit, civic, business, and corporate—celebrate by donating and giving their time, talents, and resources. Thousands of organizations now participate in the day worldwide, in almost 100 countries.

Syracuse faces a defensive juggernaut; plus 4 more things to know about SU vs. Tennessee (PS; Waters)
Syracuse will face one of the country’s top defensive teams when the Orange travels to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge on Tuesday night.
Tennessee has gotten off to a 7-0 start on the strength of its withering defense. The Vols have held their opponents to an average of 54.7 points per game. The Vols’ defense ranks second in the country behind only UCLA.
The Volunteers are coming into Tuesday night’s game following a 78-35 win over UT-Martin. The 35 points were the fewest scored against Tennessee in over 50 years, dating back to the pre-shot clock era.
According to KenPom.com, Tennessee’s adjusted defensive efficiency also ranks second in the nation. The Vols make it extremely difficult to find a quality shot. Teams are taking an average of 19.5 seconds per offensive possession against the Vols. That is the second-longest average possession length for any team in the country. The most points any team has scored against Tennessee so far this season came in a 103-68 win over Austin Peay.
And it’s not like Tennessee is throttling a bunch of weaklings. The Vols have beaten ACC foes Louisville (77-55) and Virginia (64-42) by an average of 22 points. The Vols’ closest margin of victory was a 77-62 win over Baylor, which is ranked No. 22 in the NET.
It’s not like Tennessee’s offense is a weakness. The Vols are scoring 81.5 points per game, their offensive efficiency is ranked No. 6 in the country on KenPom.com and grad transfer Chaz Lanier is scoring 17.7 points per game while knocking down 49% of his 3-point shots.
Still, Tennessee coach Rick Barnes, who is in his 10th year in Big Orange Country, has built a national championship contender upon a defensive foundation. This Vols team could finally end the school’s pursuit of its first Final Four appearance and possibly an NCAA title.
This will be the eighth meeting between the two basketball programs. Tennessee holds a 4-3 advantage thanks to three straight wins in the series, including a 73-56 win over Syracuse in last year’s Maui Invitational.

Beat writers agree Syracuse drops SEC/ACC Challenge to Tennessee (DO; Staff)
Syracuse is set for its first true road test of the year Tuesday, taking on No. 3 Tennessee. The Orange have only played two games outside the JMA Wireless Dome, but both came in Brooklyn, New York, where there was a heavy Syracuse contingent.
The Orange are coming off their first double-digit win of the season when they defeated Cornell 82-72. Though, it was less than convincing. SU led by four with just over two minutes left, but a 9-3 run propelled it to victory. Now comes its biggest test of the year.
Tennessee has made six straight NCAA Tournaments under head coach Rick Barnes. The Volunteers are a perennial top-25 team every season, and this year, they’re off to a strong start. They’re No. 2, according to KenPom, and No. 1 based on the NET rankings, meaning Syracuse is in for a big challenge in Knoxville.
Here’s how our beat writers think Syracuse (4-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) will fare against Tennessee (7-0, 0-0 Southeastern Conference):
Zak Wolf (6-0)
Roll Rocky Top
Syracuse 60, Tennessee 83
This game could get ugly; there’s no two ways about it. Despite Tennessee playing stiff competition, it’s yet to suffer a loss this season. The Volunteers blew out Louisville and Virginia by 22 points. They also handily beat then-No. 13 Baylor by 15. To put it simply, Tennessee is one of the best teams in the country, and Syracuse is not.
It also doesn’t help that this is Syracuse’s first true road game of the year. I don’t think the Orange are prepared to play in a hostile environment in Knoxville. Barnes’ teams are known for their physicality and stout defenses, which is no different this season. The Vols have the second-best defensive efficiency in the country, allowing 88.7 points per 100 possessions and the second-best effective field percentage at 40.1%.
If Syracuse continues its trend of starting slow, Tennessee isn’t going to think twice about putting the Orange away early. Even if Syracuse does show a sense of urgency from the jump — which I doubt will happen — Tennessee will be too much to handle. The Vols have the coaching advantage and a major talent advantage. When you put those together, it often leads to blowouts, which I think will be the case Tuesday.

Embarrassment
Syracuse 59, Tennessee 81
Syracuse has stumbled its way into a 4-2 record. The Orange have barely knocked off the teams they were supposed to beat and fallen short against Power Four programs. In the final game before the ACC opener, SU faces likely its hardest opponent of the season and maybe the best team in the country.
Tennessee slotting in at No. 1 in the NET rankings is no joke. The Volunteers defense has been extremely impressive early on, allowing 68 points or less in each of its first seven games. Syracuse has given me absolutely zero reason to believe this trend won’t continue in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
SU may hang around through the first 10 minutes. I could see a lineup change of Elijah Moore in for Jaquan Carlos in hopes of starting out hot shooting, but Adrian Autry will likely stick with Carlos. In the end, it really won’t matter as Tennessee will roll through the Orange to close out the first half and steamroll the second half.
For fans of the Orange, it may be the perfect time to rewatch highlights from their football team’s stunner against Miami, start researching possible bowl locations or even soak in the sights of Joey Spallina and Emma Ward slinging shots into the back of the net. This game will get ugly.
Justin Girshon (6-0)
Oh no
Syracuse 53, Tennessee 79
In the NET rankings released Monday, Tennessee ranked No. 1 while Syracuse ranked No. 177 — the fourth-worst among power conference teams. In short, that says everything about the programs. One, a national contender. The other, fighting for relevance.
It’s clear the Orange have been trying to build chemistry throughout the early going against mostly mid-major teams and at home. But Tuesday will be loud. There will be no room for error. And it’s going to get ugly quickly.
The Volunteers boast arguably the best defense in the country while their new-look offense has been clicking on all cylinders. For SU to have a chance, it will need to get off to a fast start — something it hasn’t done all season. There’s no reason to believe it will.
Once Tennessee takes an early lead, I see it cruising to a wire-to-wire blowout win. With Eddie Lampkin Jr. battling an injury and the Orange lacking much production from Carlos, they’ll need freshmen Donnie Freeman and Moore to step up again. But asking freshmen to perform at a high level in one of the country’s craziest environments against an elite team in their first road game is a tall, tall task.

Previewing Syracuse’s matchup against No. 3 Tennessee (DO; Girshon)
Following narrow defeats to Texas and Texas Tech in the Legends Classic, Syracuse bounced back with an 82-72 home win over Cornell last Wednesday. Despite pulling away in the final minutes, the Orange’s bout with the Big Red resembled their first three nonconference games.
To begin the season, SU defeated Le Moyne and Colgate by a combined six points. Then, before traveling to Brooklyn for the Legends Classic, it needed two overtime periods to beat Youngstown State. While Syracuse showed improvements against the Longhorns and Red Raiders, it quickly trailed 10-0 against Cornell to start the game.
Led by freshmen Donnie Freeman and Elijah Moore, who combined for 42 points, the Orange commanded a 39-28 halftime lead. Still, they couldn’t pull away in the second half. Cornell cut its deficit to four with 1:40 remaining, but a crucial Lucas Taylor block before Moore canned his fifth 3-pointer lifted Syracuse to victory.
Next, SU travels to Knoxville, Tennessee, for its first road game this season. Here’s everything to know about No. 3 Tennessee (7-0, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) before it hosts Syracuse (4-2, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) in the ACC-SEC Challenge:
All-time series
Tennessee leads 4-3.Last time they played …
In its first game at the Maui Invitational last year, Syracuse faced then-No. 7 Tennessee on Nov. 20. The Orange led by eight points midway through the first half, but with Judah Mintz on the bench in foul trouble, the Volunteers went on a 19-6 run to close the half, giving them a 30-25 lead.Led by Mintz’s 13 second-half points, SU trailed 52-48 with seven minutes remaining. From there, Tennessee embarked on a 21-8 run to close the game. In their 73-56 loss, the Orange shot 6-for-20 from 3 and recorded 15 turnovers.
KenPom Odds
Syracuse has a 3% chance to win, with a projected score of 83-62.The Volunteers report
Tennessee is fresh off an Elite Eight appearance and has made the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four seasons. While 2023-24 leading scorer Dalton Knecht is in the NBA, Josiah-Jordan James graduated and Jonas Aidoo transferred to Arkansas, the Volunteers replenished through the transfer portal.Their leading scorers, fifth-year senior Chaz Lanier and senior Igor Milicic Jr. transferred from North Florida and Charlotte, respectively. Additionally, they added Ohio State transfer Felix Okpara, who has started all seven games. Tennessee also retained key pieces in Zakai Zeigler, Jahmai Mashack and Jordan Gainey to strengthen its rotation.
Despite their roster turnover, the Volunteers are KenPom’s No. 2 team in the country and remain undefeated. Tennessee’s 119.6 adjusted offensive efficiency is the 11th-best in the country, while its 88.7 adjusted defensive efficiency ranks second.

The NET debuts today in college basketball: News is not good for Syracuse (PS; Ditota)
The first NET rankings of the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season debuted this morning and if you are a Syracuse fan, you might want to avert your eyes.
The Orange is ranked No. 177 in the NET, the tool the NCAA uses, essentially, to determine the value of Division I college basketball teams. The NCAA relies on the NET and other analytical sites to help decide which teams make its post-season tournament field and how those teams are seeded.
Only two ACC teams right now have a worse NET ranking than SU: Miami (191) and Virginia Tech (233).
Pittsburgh already has three Quad 1 wins, is crushing lesser opponents and is a team not enough people are talking about.
Syracuse plays Tuesday night at Tennessee, a team ranked No. 1 in the NET right now. Because of SU’s low NET ranking, if the Vols win, the victory counts only as a Quad 4 win for Tennessee.
Conversely, if SU wins, it gains an invaluable Quad 1 win.
Here’s how the system works:
Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
The Orange is here partly because even though it has a 4-2 record, it has not beaten the lower-ranked teams on its schedule by significant points.
All its wins are Quad 4 home wins and those victories came with an average margin of 6.2 points per game. (The NCAA has said it does not consider “margin” of victory, but instead calculates “efficiency.” If teams win by significant margins, though, their offensive and defensive efficiencies climb.)
SU also has a Quad 1 loss to Texas Tech (NET 36) and a Quad 2 loss to Texas (NET 56). Both of those games took place at neutral floor Barclays Center.

Tennessee basketball vs Syracuse in the SEC/ACC Challenge: Prediction, picks, injury updates (knoxnews.com; Wilson)
Tennessee basketball is heading into a three-game stretch against power conference teams.
The No. 3 Vols (7-0) host Syracuse (4-2) on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) in the second edition of the SEC/ACC Challenge. UT lost at North Carolina last season as the challenge debuted.
Here is what to know about the matchup:
The Vols are playing their third ACC team this season
Tennessee will be playing an ACC opponent for the third time in its first eight games this season. The Vols triumphed 77-55 at Louisville on Nov. 9 in an early season marquee road win. They beat Virginia 64-42 in their first game in the Baha Mar Championship on Nov. 21.
Tuesday marks the first of back-to-back games against ACC competition as Tennessee faces Miami on Dec. 10 (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) in New York City in the Jimmy V Classic. UT plays at No. 17 Illinois on Dec. 14.
High-scoring guard J.J. Starling leads Syracuse
J.J. Starling is off to a high-scoring start in his junior season. The 6-foot-4 guard is averaging 19.8 points through six games. He scored 38 points in a double-overtime win against Youngstown State on Nov. 16. He had 27 points against Texas Tech on Nov. 22.
Starling, who played his freshman season at Notre Dame, has not scored fewer than 12 points in a game this season. He is shooting 29% on 3-pointers.
UNIFORMS:Tennessee basketball to debut dark mode uniforms vs Syracuse in SEC/ACC Challenge
Watch the rebounding battle between the Vols and Orange
Tennessee is one of the nation's best offensive rebounding teams. Syracuse is one the best teams at not allowing offensive rebounds.Per KenPom, the Vols have an offensive rebounding percentage of 43.5%, third-best in the country. Syracuse is allowing an offensive rebounding percentage of 17.6%, the lowest rate in the nation.
Syracuse averages 43 rebounds a game and is led by 6-9 forward Donnie Freeman (9.2 per game) and 6-11 center Eddie Lampkin Jr. (7.3).
Senior 6-10 forward Igor Milicic Jr. leads UT with 6.7 per game, followed by 6-11 forward Felix Okpara (6.6). The Vols average 39.8 rebounds.

No. 3 Tennessee men's basketball activates 'Dark Mode' ahead of bout with Syracuse (ESPN; JJ Post)
Undefeated and now ranked No. 3 in the AP poll, the Tennessee men's basketball team is activating a unique jersey ahead of its game Tuesday against the Syracuse Orange.
In a matchup between two teams that traditionally don orange, the Volunteers are debuting their "Dark Mode" uniforms for the SEC/ACC men's challenge.
Unlike Tennessee's football team, which has worn its own dark mode uniforms once a year since 2021, the look will be a new one for the men's basketball team. Head coach Rick Barnes mentioned during the offseason that a black uniform had been designed, a new step for his team which had not previously had its own dark mode look.
Much like the football team's announcement of the usage of its dark mode jerseys for its game against Kentucky this fall, the basketball team announced the debut of its dark mode uniforms with a slick, if somewhat ominous, video.
The video posted by Tennessee basketball involves camera shots of players donning the threads while shrouded in smoke, with a mix of spooky music and the vocals of iconic Volunteers fight song "Rocky Top" playing in the background.
Tennessee's game against Syracuse will tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN in Knoxville.
Syracuse men’s basketball: what to watch for vs Tennessee (TNIAAM; Staff)
The Syracuse Orange (4-2) play their first true road game of the season when they head to Knoxville to take on the #3 Tennessee Volunteers (7-0). Tip-off is 7:30 on ESPN2 and here’s what we’re watching for:
Kevin: Start strong
Tennessee is 2nd in KenPom’s defensive efficiency early this season and the Orange can’t afford to get down big early in this one. It will be interesting to see how the team responds on the road but they have to come out and be aggressive from the jump. No side to side possessions, no quick mid-range shots. Syracuse needs to try and push the pace and attack the rim to have a chance at the win.
Max: Find a rhythm on defense
The one blemish with the Vols so far this season is their turnover rate of 19.2%, which ranks in the bottom third of the country. I feel like a broken record, but Syracuse must step up its defensive pressure to have a legitimate chance. The Orange D averaged just seven takeaways against Texas and Texas Tech in Brooklyn, so look for a bounce-back effort facing a Tennessee team that gives it up over 12 times per contest.
Dom: Move the ball on offense
As Max noted, Syracuse will get a certain portion of its scoring by hopefully generating turnovers and turning those into fast break points. At the end of the day, any chance at a win will come down to whether the Orange can score enough in the half-court. Tennessee boasts the second-best defensive rating in the country per KenPom heading into Tuesday’s game, and Syracuse has had troubles with too much isolation and not enough ball movement during certain stretches this year.
Mike: Find your outside shot
This is both a figurative and literal guide to the game. The Orange shouldn't have any chance in this game, but I thought the same about Texas not that long ago. I still don't trust SU's defense in the slightest so for them to keep pace with the Vols' offense, they need to drastically improve their 27% three-point shooting rate. Chris Bell was ice cold against Cornell and only played 18 minutes - he needs to bounce back and drain some early shots to help open up driving lanes. If he can't get it done, don't be afraid to go back to Elijah Moore for a spark off the bench.
Sam: Pindown Screens
If you’ve watched Tennessee basketball at any point over the last handful of years, you know how much they love to use pindown screens to get into their offense. A few years ago, they would run these actions for players like Josiah Jordan-James, a moderately good scorer, and the Vols had a disappointing offense that held them back with an elite defense. Then, when Dalton Knecht came in, it completely changed their offense because he turned those pindowns into extremely efficient offense. Any advantage he got was an easy curl for a drive or a three-pointer. Now, Chaz Lanier has fallen much closer to the Knecht part of the spectrum than the JJJ one. These pins also turn into other screening actions, diversifying the way that the Vols score.

Everything Tennessee basketball said about SEC/ACC Challenge vs. Syracuse (247sports.com; McKee)
No. 3 Tennessee basketball hosts Syracuse in the SEC/ACC Challenge on Tuesday night inside of Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN following the penultimate release of the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Vols will debut all-black uniforms — black jerseys and black shorts — for the first time in program history when they welcome the Orange to town. The contest is nearly sold out with a few tickets remaining at AllVols.com.
UT's latest string of all-black uniforms across the athletic department features a similar look to the one that Tennessee baseball won the national championship in this past June. The hoops look, as you can see below, features 'Vols' in the same orange block letters across the chest, with orange numbers.
Tennessee assistant coach Justin Gainey and starting forward Felix Okpara both met with the media on Monday to preview the matchup between the Vols (7-0) and Orange (4-2). Here's everything they had to say about the state of the program heading into the contest.
Gainey on if Syracuse is much different in Year 2 under Adrian Autry, compared to what Tennessee faced last season in the Maui Invitational:
"Yeah, they are. I think they are. They seem to be, again, he was just taking it over last time we played them. And this year, you could tell he's starting to implement kind of his philosophies and what he wants to do. And I think his guys are responding. Obviously everybody at this time of year is trying to figure themselves out and figure out who they are. But they're tough. They guard, not only zone but in man. And they have some guys that are more than capable of having big nights. So they feel to be a more connected group this year."
Gainey on if he anticipated Tennessee being this strong of an offensive rebounding team:
"You know what, I did just because it's something we went into the summer really emphasizing and something that we wanted to be better at. We've always talked about it. Last season we talked about it a lot. But, again, it started this summer and we put a big emphasis on it in everything we do, in every practice, talking about it after practices after games, putting a big emphasis on it. And so it's good to see that it's translating. And I think from a personnel standpoint as well, we have some guys that are maybe better offensive rebounders than we had last year. So I think that plays a part as well."Gainey on if there's conference pride going into an SEC-ACC Challenge game:
"Yeah, it is a sense of pride. I wouldn't say that we don't pay attention to it. We do. Our league is a monster. Every year, I always think, man, how can it get any better? And it does every year. And when we're not playing those guys in our league, I root for them. I want them to do well because I know how tough and how brutal our league is and how competitive it is. And so it is a good chance for us, as a league, to see where we kind of stack up. So we take pride in it, especially non-conference, representing our league."Gainey on growing up in North Carolina and playing at NC State, his perspective of the SEC coming from ACC territory:
"Growing up in North Carolina, it was ACC country, right? You grow up and that's all you see. And me not being a big football guy, I didn't really have a a complete understanding of what the SEC meant from that standpoint. And so I grew up as an ACC fan, and I played in the ACC. But it has been eye-opening to watch the development of the SEC through the years. And with me being in this league, going into my fourth season, to see the basketball just take off and arguably be the best basketball league in the country when you look at ranked teams, when you look at guys getting drafted, when you look at style of play, when you look at the physicality and the competitiveness of every game. It'd be hard to argue that SEC isn't up there at the top. So it's been great being a part of this league and being in the SEC and being able to compete at a high level in it."Gainey on where Darlinstone Dubar is at, the next steps of improvement for him:
"D-Stone, we're really excited. He had stepped away a little bit for some personal issues, which we totally understand and respect, and it's great to have him back in the fold. His teammates love him on and off the court. I mean, he's just a great young man. But getting him back in has been good, giving us a little more depth inside and at his position, the ability to shoot the basketball and stretch the floor and just another scoring option. So I'm excited about that. Want to see him continue to grow defensively and continue to attack the glass and just be that versatile guy that he is."Gainey on where Felix Okpara's game is offensively:
"Felix, I think he's getting better. I think he's getting better. And I think if you look at his role at Ohio State and you look at him here, you've seen growth. And we know it's not going to happen overnight. I thought he had an unbelievable summer, and I was surprised at his ability to score inside over the summer and throughout this season because I don't know if he was like a primary option for them inside or not. But his growth has been promising and with him, he's one of the hardest workers I've been around. After practice, every day I mean, he's getting gains, reps at his low post game. I would say in the Bahamas, he probably didn't play as well— not play, he probably didn't score as well as he probably wanted to or we wanted him to, but we're not discouraged at all at it. He put in the work. We see it every day in practice. Just like shooters miss shots, just because their bigs shots are closer to the rim sometimes. You kinda still lose perspective on how tough it is around the basket. Right? So I'm excited about him. We feel great about him and his work ethic, and we know he's going to be fine."...

Syracuse Basketball SUPER LOW in NET Rankings - How Adrian Autry's Squad Climbs Up (youtube; podcast; Locked on Syracuse)
College Basketball's first NET rankings of the 2024-25 season came out earlier today. Syracuse Orange Basketball was ranked 177, which is third-worst in the ACC at 177 only ahead of the Miami Hurricanes and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Head Coach Adrian Autry must find a way to guide his Syracuse Basketball team to an upset against the Tennessee Volunteers and/or Maryland Terrapins in order to have a realistic chance at the NCAA Tournament.
Jackson Holzer reacts to Syracuse's first NET Rating on this mini edition of the Locked On Syracuse Podcast.
Syracuse Basketball: 4-star PG Miles Sadler playing at a high level versus elite foes (itlh; Adler)
The 2024-25 season in high school hoops is just getting underway, although new Syracuse basketball recruit Miles Sadler is off to a fast start, earning high praise from national analysts and scouts.
The 5-foot-11 Sadler, who is from Brampton, Ontario, is a four-star point guard and top-30 national prospect in the 2026 class. Toward the end of October, Sadler said via his X page that he picked up a scholarship offer from the Orange staff.
Sadler is a standout junior at CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, which is a member of arguably the country's top high school hoops conference, the 14-member Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").
As I've detailed in other recent columns, Syracuse basketball coaches also recently offered scholarships to several of Sadler's teammates at CIA Bella Vista, which is deemed a top-25 national squad at this point in 2024-25 by the experts at The Circuit.
Syracuse basketball target Miles Sadler, a 2026 4-star PG, has begun this season in a stellar fashion.
Late last month, CIA Bella Vista scored a massive 89-85 victory over Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif., at the 2024 Heart of California Basketball Classic in Fresno, Calif. High school hoops experts view Prolific Prep as one of the top programs in 2024-25 and a significant contender to win a championship at the season-ending Chipotle Nationals in the spring of 2025.

BUZZ: Syracuse alumna Clairo’s album named one of the best of 2024 (PS; Herbert)
Syracuse University alumna Clairo’s album has been named one of the year’s best.
The singer-songwriter’s third full-length release, “Charm,” ranked No. 13 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Albums of 2024, released Monday. Clairo is also No. 18 on The New Yorker’s new top 20 list.
“Clairo elevates her bedroom-pop aesthetic into a lush palette of Seventies melodies, playfully blurring the lines of pop, R&B, soul, and folk with the sounds of the Wurlitzer, mellotron, organ, and piano swirling around her,” Rolling Stone wrote. “This palpable shift of self-assuredness is due in part to her own coming of age, but also a consequence of her tapping soul and funk savant Leon Michels as co-producer. While her hushed vocals have always established a sense of closeness within her work, the Clairo of ‘Charm’ makes for a much more intimate experience.”
“Clairo’s music career began on YouTube when she was just eighteen, but, at this point, ‘Pretty Girl,’ her first viral hit, feels more like a footnote than a foundational track. ‘Charm,’ Clairo’s third album, is a loungy, soulful, and sophisticated meditation on the vagaries of romance: how do we let another person in when we’re paralyzed and queasy with fear?” The New Yorker added.
Clairo, whose real name is Claire Cottrill, has been on an upward rise since she was a 19-year-old freshman at Syracuse University and she went viral with the 2017 song “Pretty Girl.” It reached 1 million views on YouTube when she was at a party at SU (and now has more than 500 million streams) and dropped out of school a year later to focus on her music career.
