5 Reasons We Can't Wait for the Orange's 2014-15 Season (BR; Sludet)
The Syracuse men’s basketball team is anxiously awaiting Friday, Oct. 3, which will mark the 2014-15 season’s first practice. As usual, the Orange enter a new season after waving goodbye to former greats.
Entering the 2011-12 season, the Orange had to make do without Wes Johnson, Andy Rautins and Arinze Onuaku.
In the 2012-13 season, the Orange lost Kris Joseph, Scoop Jardine, Dion Waiters and Fab Melo.
Last season, the Orange lost Michael Carter-Williams, Brandon Triche and James Southerland.
This season, Tyler Ennis, C.J. Fair, Jerami Grant and Baye Moussa Keita are all gone.
Luckily for the Orange, the cupboard remains stocked.
Rakeem Christmas, who completed his undergraduate degree in just three years, will be a graduate student at the forward position. Also returning are Michael Gbinije, Trevor Cooney and, hopefully, a rehabilitated DaJuan Coleman, who has been struggling in his recovery from leg surgery.

Predicting the 10 Best Defensive Teams in College Basketball for 2014-15 (BR; Miller)
10. Syracuse Orange
Average Adjusted Defensive Efficiency (2010-14): 91.7
The Jim Boeheim 2-3 zone is annually praised as one of the most difficult puzzles for opposing offenses to solve, but it hasn't actually been that efficient.
Syracuse's adjusted defensive efficiency almost always ranks in the top 50, but the eighth-place finish during the 2012-13 season was the only time in the past 13 years that the Orange finished the year ranked in the top 10.
And now the "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" argument for Syracuse's zone defense will have to be more pronounced than ever after the Orange lost C.J. Fair, Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis.
Rakeem Christmas is a great shot-blocker and Trevor Cooney forces a good number of steals on the perimeter, but we're putting a lot of faith in Michael Gbinije, Kaleb Joseph, Chris McCullough and the health of DaJuan Coleman in letting the Orange snag the final spot in the top 10.
