SU Basketball Has Four Glaring Issues (sujuiceonline.com; Goodman)
...
So what’s wrong with this team? Growing pains were expected, but losing to California on Thursday in the Mecca was not part of the plan. If you watched both games this weekend you undoubtedly saw these four major flaws:
1. Sloppy passing from everyone, but most notably Kaleb Joseph.
The ball did not move crisply, at all, for the Syracuse offense in either game. This one didn’t show up in the box score as the Orange only had 25 turnovers combined in the two games, and Joseph had just four in each contest, but the eye test speaks volumes. I suppose an argument could be made that Joseph threaded the needle throughout the game, but I’m thinking it was more a case of serious luck that a dozen passes weren’t picked off. His dribble was high, his passing sporadic, and his decision making questionable. There certainly is potential, but Joseph looked frazzled under the Garden lights, the opposite of Tyler Ennis.

2. A staggering inability to hit the broadside of a barn:
Anyone count how many air balls ‘Cuse shot? It was ugly. This one IS backed up in the stats as ‘Cuse shot 7-32 from the three-point line over the weekend. 21.8%!!!!! The scary part is that the looks weren’t terrible, but the actual shots sure were. Out of all the flaws, this one will be the toughest to fix as this team just doesn’t have the talent on the outside. Coach Jim Boeheim better figure out how to get Chris McCullough (a bright spot of raw talent) and Rakeem Christmas more looks inside if the Orange is going to find ways to score.

ACC Basketball Night in Review: Miami Secures Charleston Classic Crown (PS; Stevens)
One of the ACC's Sunshine State team capped a perfect week with a tournament title.
The league's other Sunshine State school capped a perfectly miserable week with a third consecutive loss.
Notre Dame relied heavily on its starting five in a one-point setback against Providence.
That, plus a look ahead to Monday's four games, in the ACC night in revoew.
NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Miami
The Hurricanes (5-0) continue to impress, blasting Charlotte 77-58 in the title game of the Charleston Classic. It's tough to find fault with anything in Miami's performance, besides perhaps some shoddy 3-point shooting.
Miami was efficient from 2-point range (24 of 38). It grabbed roughly a third of its misses, and turned 11 offensive rebounds into 21 second-chance points. It forced 19 turnovers and produced 27 points off those takeaways. It got five players into double figures.
While the Charleston field was far from the best among the early-season tournaments, the Hurricanes ripped through it with complete ease, winning three games by an average of 22.3 points. Miami's already a good team, and it figures to get better as younger players develop around point guard Angel Rodriguez and wing Sheldon McClellan.

Frozen Dome Classic Fills Carrier Dome to Far Corners in Rare Spectacle (DO; Lynch)
Spectators sat as far away as sections 321 and 335 in the upper deck of the Carrier Dome to be a part of the U.S. indoor professional hockey record crowd of 30,715 on Saturday night.
They got a view that seemed closer to watching a game on a building outside Wrigley Field than inside the Crunch’s usual confines of the Onondaga War Memorial. They were also part of a three-pack of hockey that came with a charity game, Utica College against Oswego State and the main Crunch-Comets event.
Tyler Tichener, a 21-year-old senior at Oswego State sitting in the upper reaches of 321, received tickets for the game from his parents and said he didn’t have designs on sticking around after his school played Utica College in the afternoon.
“We thought it would be a fun game, but we also thought we’d be able to see most of it,” he said. “I wouldn’t even mind even being at the railing up here, but it’s just so far and so high.”
“If we had decent tickets we’d probably be here from the first game to the third game,” he said.
The Oswego State-Utica game did set a Division III attendance record, though, with 7,047 in attendance.
