Syracuse vs Michigan Preview (Rantsports.com; Sturm)
The Syracuse Orange and No. 19 Michigan Wolverines have been two extremely similar teams to start the 2014-15 college basketball season. Both currently sit at 5-1, both lost to fairly talented opposition on a neutral court and both have two key players who make or break the team. However, something has to give when these two face off on Tuesday, Dec. 2 in Michigan.
Syracuse relies on the play of Rakeem Christmas and Chris McCullough, but it’s the overall strength of the defense that makes the Orange so dangerous. NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Marcus Georges-Hunt, Georgia Tech
The junior had a fine game, snagging 16 points, four rebounds and five steals as the Yellow Jackets bested Rhode Island 64-61 in the fifth-place game in the Orlando Classic.
It probably wasn't Georges-Hunt at his best (there were four turnovers slipped in there, a reflection of a sloppy game for both teams), but it was a demonstration of how vital he is to the Yellow Jackets' prospects. Georgia Tech (5-1) led for the final 25 minutes, with Georges-Hunt involved in much of what Brian Gregory's team did on offense.
While the Yellow Jackets didn't win the tournament, they still came away with two victories, with Sunday's over improved Rhode Island one that could retain some value deep into the season. If that's going to matter for such a retooled team, Georges-Hunt will be leaned upon to provide a few more outings like Sunday's
