What Are SU Basketball's Biggest Issues So Far? (sujuiceonline.com; Auger)
If one man’s trash is truly another man’s treasure, Scott Shafer certainly must be perplexed as to the consternation about Jim Boeheim’s 5-3 start to the season. With five wins through eight games, the football team would need a lone victory in its remaining four contests to secure bowl eligibility. Yeah, let’s not go there. I digress.
The fact that the basketball team has sputtered out of the gate is forefront on the minds of Orange Nation. Other than a 66-63 squeaker against Iowa at Madison Square Garden, the four wins have come at the expense of less than stellar competition. The three losses include a 14-point drubbing at the hands of Cal, a 68-65 setback at Michigan and a 12-point home loss to St. John’s. It should be noted that Michigan has lost two straight since beating SU to something called N.J.I.T. and Eastern Michigan (you go, Rob Murphy!). So in other words, ouch.

ACC Night in Review: BC Extends Winning Streak to Three (PS; Stevens)
A few noteworthy tidbits from Boston College's 85-74 defeat of Maine, the only game involving an ACC team on Saturday's schedule ...
1. It was Boston College's largest offensive output in more than a year. The Eagles' 85 points were their most since an 89-78 defeat of Washington on Nov. 22, 2013. Boston College (5-3) had only one 70-point outing (a 79-point game against Marist) prior to Thursday this season.
2. Boston College has a three-game winning streak. The Eagles have strung together victories over Marist, Providence and Maine, the first time they've won three straight since collecting four in a row in March 2013. The Eagles should match that streak when woeful Binghamton (1-10) pays a visit to Conte Forum.
3. All five starters scored in double figures for the Eagles. Aaron Brown scored 21 points, and the Eagles also got significant contributions from Dennis Clifford (19), Patrick Heckmann (13), Dimitri Batten (12) and Olivier Hanlan (10) in the victory. It's the first time since a Jan. 18 loss at North Carolina that Boston College got at least 10 points from each of its starters.

Two CNY Hotel Projects Among Winners in $709 Million State Aid Handout (PS; Moriarty)
An historic hotel in Syracuse and a planned new hotel in Cazenovia are among the projects that will receive a share of the $709.2 million in economic development aid handed out by the state Thursday.
Central New York hauled in $80.2 million in state aid for 85 development projects in the latest round of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's regional economic development council initiative. It made Central New York one of the "top performers" among the state's 10 regions in the competitive initiative, which Cuomo launched after entering office in 2011.
Look below for the full list of 852 projects receiving state funding.
Here are highlights of the $80.2 million in state assistance for Central New York:
• Syracuse Community Hotel Restoration Co. 1 will receive $3.65 million to help fund its planned $57 million renovation of the historic Hotel Syracuse in downtown Syracuse. The developer is Syracuse area resident Ed Riley.
