Syracuse Basketball Expects 30K Plus Saturday as It Tries to Catch Kentucky in Attendance Race (PS; Waters)
The Syracuse University men's basketball team should see its first 30,000-plus crowd of the season when the Orange hosts Miami on Saturday at the Carrier Dome.
The expected crowd should help Syracuse's attendance figures, which are lagging behind last year's numbers.
Syracuse has averaged 21,557 fans at its games through the first 12 home games of the current season. Last year, Syracuse was averaging 25,022 fans for the first 12 home games of the 2013-14 campaign.
That's a decrease of roughly 3,500 fans per game and that has Syracuse running behind Kentucky in the NCAA's attendance race. Kentucky has averaged 23,285 fans for its 13 games at Rupp Arena this season.
Last year, Syracuse captured the NCAA's attendance title for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Syracuse averaged 26,253 fans for its home games in 2013-14. Kentucky finished second with an average attendance of 22,964.

Transfers McClellan, Rodriguez become close friends in prolific 1st seasons with Miami (DO; Libanati)
On one end of the phone was Angel Rodriguez, who had just been granted a release from Kansas State. On the other end was Miami head coach Jim Larranaga, who had five scholarships available in the spring of 2013.
“How scary was it when we had five scholarships in the spring?” Larranaga said. “Five! I’m like, ‘Who’re we getting in the springtime?’”
Rodriguez was the first recruit to come knocking. He in turn recruited Sheldon McClellan, who was transferring from Texas. On McClellan’s visit, Rodriguez was his host.
Among a roster with nine new players — four freshmen and five transfers — Rodriguez and McClellan represent the mold for how to integrate transfers into a system. They’re No. 1 and No. 2 on the team in scoring, assists and steals per game. Together, they’ve helped lead Miami (12-5, 2-

What Will SU Basketball Look Like Next Year and Going Forward? (sujuiceonline.com; Irvine)
Rumors are swirling that the NCAA may finally announce the outcome of its investigation into the Syracuse University athletic program, and sanctions may be looming. How will this affect the Syracuse men’s basketball lineup over the next several seasons?
First, let’s start with what the sanctions might be. It’s possible that Syracuse will lose scholarships, but it’s unlikely they will be from next year’s team. It’s more likely that Syracuse will lose one or two scholarships in the 2016-2017 season. If there is a post-season ban it could come possibly as early as this season.
So, if Syracuse keeps all of their scholarships for next season, what will the team look like? Rakeem Christmas, as the team’s lone senior, is the only member of this year’s team guaranteed to not return in 2015-2015. As a potential ACC Player of the Year and 1st round NBA draft pick, he will leave a giant hole at center for Syracuse next season.
