It's always a big deal when the two winningest men's coaches in Division I history meet, even though the Orange will sit out this postseason under self-imposed sanctions. The Blue Devils (25-3, 12-3) bring an eight-game winning streak that's the longest active streak in the league, while Syracuse is coming off an upset of No. 9 Notre Dame. Maybe Jim Boeheim will stick around for the end of this one — he was memorably tossed in the final seconds last year after he tore off his jacket to argue a charging call. LOOKING AHEAD: It's been an up-and-down past few weeks for No. 17 Louisville, which has gone 3-3 during its past six games — with two of those wins by a combined three points — and dealt with guard Chris Jones' suspension, reinstatement and subsequent permanent dismissal. The Cardinals (22-6, 10-5) play host to Notre Dame (24-5, 12-4) in a matchup of teams chasing two-round byes at the ACC tournament. PLAYER TO WATCH: Few players have been hotter than Duke guard Quinn Cook, who had three 20-point games in an eight-day span. He scored 22 against North Carolina, had a career-best 27 against Clemson and added 21 of his 26 in the second half and overtime against Virginia Tech. He has played 209 of 210 possible minutes in the Blue Devils' last five games, both because he's playing at a high level and because his team only has eight scholarship players. ... College Basketball News Night Court: Sparty Drops a Bad One to Minnyl Keifer Sykes 2K Points (cbsports.com; Norlander) Everything you ought to know from college basketball's Thursday. For a short post on just the bubble-related outcomes, Jerry Palm takes care of that here. ***Regarding all things Kevin Stallings scolding and cursing and threatening one of his players, we've covered that here. Game of the Day: Minnesota steals one from Michigan State on the road. OK, so Michigan State should have had this one in regulation. A drawn out final two minutes saw the game slip from MSU's grasp like a rope that couldn't be held anymore. It was painful for me to watch, and I'm not even a Sparty fan. Here's the foul by Gavin Schilling that could've ended MSU in regulation, but the foul shot didn't go in. Carlos Morris hits the prayer. Oh, my! This came after Minnesota got its life raft in the form of a separate foul on a 3-point attempt, as Branden Dawson was baited into bumping Joey King, who hit all three free throws. It's the first win in 15 games for Minnesota at MSU. The Gophers outscored Sparty 18-12 in overtime. So high-scoring for a five-minute session. King and Andre Hollins both had 17 points to lead the Gophers ... among starters. Morris, who I did not know existed before tonight, came off the bench to light up MSU for 20 points. Minnesota is now 17-12. Michigan State is 19-9 and has to play at Wisconsin on Sunday. That won't be fun. Home to Purdue and at Indiana still remain. Tom Izzo's team has work to do and will want to win two at the Big Ten tourney just to feel OK about its placement in the bracket come Selection Sunday. Travis Trice and the Spartans gave away one they had no business giving away. (USATSI) Memphis cannot conquer SMU, loses its last big chance for a statement win. The Tigers had the Ponies on their home floor, and they couldn't even come close to winning. A 66-57 loss to SMU drops Memphis to 17-11 in a year that's headed toward the NIT and something of a forgotten season. It didn't help that Kedren Johnson fouled out with more than 18 minutes remaining in the game, in part because he was assessed a technical/fifth foul. SMU is now 23-5, and although the American isn't stout, this team could get a No. 3 seed if it wins out. ...
