Who is Quinton Rose (and Why is Mike Hopkins Scouting Him? (.com; Kelly)
Last night, word leaked out that Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Mike Hopkins was in Rochester checking out a high school basketball game. Hopkins was checking out Bishop Kearney, and if you’d said this a couple years ago, it would have been obvious that he’d been there to check out either Thomas Bryant or Chino Obokoh. Since neither is there anymore, with Bryant playing prep ball in West Virginia and Obokoh suiting up for the Orange, obviously people were speculating as to who Hop was there to see.
And then, At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.’s Mike McAllister tweeted the name of this mystery recruit that was suddenly getting Syracuse interest:

So, who is Quinton Rose? Rose is a 6-foot-5, rail thin guard who is flying well below the radar right now, though he has gotten some interest from high major DI programs. Scout reports that he’s got West Virginia interest, while Rivals lists him as having received offers from Providence and Wake Forest, in addition to Memphis and George Washington.

SU Basketball Roundtable: Tremendous Changes & Cautious Predictions (TNIAAM; Staff)
Jim Boeheim said yesterday that "tremendous changes" are coming for Syracuse Orange basketball. He didn't say that with any clear idea of what those changes would be, but it stands to reason that a team losing Rakeem Christmas, gaining a blue chip recruiting class and possibly losing a role player or two to transfers is going through exactly that.
It got us thinking about a few topics for what's left in the 2014-2015 season and as we look (far) ahead to the 2015-2016 season. Here's what we came up with...
If you had to put money on one guy to transfer, it would be...
John Cassillo: Probably Buss. Don't want anyone to go, but if this staff is dead-set on bringing Thomas Bryant aboard, someone needs to leave. And based on the vitriol Boeheim's tossed at various players this year, I'd say Patterson's gotten the most grief (with Kaleb Joseph second). He won't be "pushed out" necessarily, but don't be surprised to see him just announce he's headed to "RANDOM POWER SCHOOL X" one day, with an assist from SU.
Brandon Ross: Chino Obokoh. With Dajuan Coleman set to come back next season with two years of eligibility left and given the minutes he's had this year, it has been made clear that Jimmy B has no future plans for him. While Ron Patterson is also considered here, the amount of minutes he still gets shows that Boeheim still has some faith in him.

Duke-UNC Rematch Headlines Final ACC Regular Season Weekend (thestate.com; AP)
Beware the Cat...
GAME OF THE WEEKEND: No. 3 Duke at No. 19 North Carolina. The first rivalry meeting lived up to the hype, with the Blue Devils (27-3, 14-3 ACC) rallying from 10 down in the final 4 minutes of regulation to force overtime and win 92-90. Now the teams meet in Chapel Hill in Saturday night's regular-season finale. The Blue Devils have won 10 straight games, while the Tar Heels (21-9, 11-6) are still chasing a top-four seed in next week's league tournament. Of note: the Tar Heels got freshman reserve guard Theo Pinson back this week from a monthlong absence due to a broken foot. Pinson could be needed to try and slow the Blue Devils' top-flight backcourt of Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook. "The way we lost at Cameron, having a pretty commanding lead ... and just not making the plays makes this game feel even bigger to us," UNC guard Marcus Paige said.
LOOKING AHEAD: The ACC tournament uses a new schedule when it begins next week in Greensboro, North Carolina. The five-day event begins Tuesday and runs through a Saturday night finale — a departure from the traditional Sunday afternoon finish a few hours ahead of NCAA tournament announcements. "My feeling is this will be the format moving forward," said Notre Dame coach Mike Brey, whose Fighting Irish played a similar tournament schedule while in the Big East. "You know, the best conference in the country should be showcased on Friday night and Saturday night." No. 2 Virginia (28-1, 16-1) is again the No. 1 seed as it chases a second straight title, while Syracuse will sit this one out due to a self-imposed postseason ban amid an NCAA investigation.
PLAYER TO WATCH: North Carolina State point guard Anthony "Cat" Barber has upped his game. He's scored in double figures in seven of his last eight games, scoring at least 15 in five of those, as his team makes its push for a fourth straight NCAA tournament trip. Barber and the Wolfpack (18-12, 9-8) close Saturday at home against Syracuse.
