Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud said Friday that he has reached out to assistant men's basketball coach Mike Hopkins in the past 24 hours, "and will be talking to him frequently and soon."
Syverud has taken criticism for not speaking publicly about Hopkins, who is widely seen as the university's head coach in waiting. He sidestepped the question on Thursday, saying it was not the time to discuss the matter. Syracuse recruit Moustapha Diagne recorded a double-double as Pope John XXIII High School defeated Newark Tech in the semifinals of New Jersey's Tournament of Champions on Saturday night.
