Tim Welsh Says Jim Boeheim is a Fighter (sujuiceonline.com)
Former Syracuse assistant coach and former Providence head coach Tim Welsh was on SNY.tv recently to break down Jim Boeheim’s recent statements following an NCAA report detailing SU’s infractions over a nearly 10 year period.
Here’s a highlight from the interview:
Q. What did you take out of Boeheim’s comments following the report?
A: I took out of his comment [that] he’s a fighter. And why wouldn’t you fight about what you’re accused [of] if you think that it’s [un]fair? I don’t think that Jim felt that it was fair and people from around the program don’t think it’s fair about the penalties that occurred according to what went on. I thought he did an absolutely great job of standing up for himself and the program, and what we stands for and what he believes in what went on. You have to have a lot of respect for that.
Rundown:
1. General thoughts on Boeheim’s response
2. Is a head coach ultimately responsible for everything?
3. Will Boeheim stay for three years?
4. Will Mike Hopkins ultimately be his replacement?

Syracuse Women's Team Looks to a Bright Future in 2015-16 (thestate.com; Iacobelli)
After losing at Kentucky and South Carolina the past two seasons, Syracuse coach Quentin Hillsman knows his program's next step is to play these NCAA Tournament opening rounds at home.
And Hillsman may just have a club capable of that in 2015-16.
"We're a very good team playing in this environment in the NCAA Tournament," Hillsman said. "You never know, you may have to flip that back (in 2016) and come play in Syracuse."
"You know what's it's going to be there?" he continued. "Tough."
That might've given his Orange (22-10) a better shot than they had at top-seeded South Carolina, falling well behind in the first half and losing 97-68 on Sunday night.
Tiffany Mitchell and Alaina Coates had 14 points each to lead six Gamecock players in double figures. South Carolina advanced to its third Sweet 16 in four seasons and awaits either Ohio State or North Carolina in Friday's game in Greensboro, North Carolina.

NC State Celebrates Upset Over Nova
NCAA East Regional: NC State, Michigan State, Oklahoma and Louisville Headed to Dome (PS;Ditota)
If your 2015 NCAA Tournament bracket looks irreparably busted, you can probably blame the teams in the East Regional.
No. 1 Villanova and No. 2 Virginia failed to advance to the Sweet 16, to be played on Friday and Sunday in the Carrier Dome. The top two seeds in the East failed to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time since Kentucky and Gonzaga did not advance out of the St. Louis region in 2004.
Here's a quick rundown of the teams that advanced to the Dome bracket, including the matchup between ACC brethren.
FIRST GAME, 7:37 P.M.
No. 4 Louisville (ACC)
How the Cardinals advanced: Beat No. 13 UC Irvine 57-55, beat No. 5 Northern Iowa 66-53.
Record: 26-8
Key players: Montrezl Harrell (), Terry Rozier (G), Wayne Blackshear ()
The skinny: Harrell is a skilled big guy and potential double-double producer. Rozier, once part of a dynamic backcourt with the dismissed Chris Jones (Louisville's best defender), is a quick, penetrating guard who averages 17 points per game and can heat up in a hurry. Blackshear, the enigmatic forward, has had a nice NCAA tournament. Freshman Quentin Snider has filled in admirably at the point guard spot in Jones' absence. The Cards, not as ferocious a pressing defensive team as years past, struggle to shoot the perimeter shot, but guarded better and shot it better in their win over Northern Iowa. Chinanu Onuaku, younger brother of former Syracuse center Arinze Onuaku, is Louisville's freshman center.

Meatball Madness: Contest for Syracuse's Best Moves to State Fairgrounds (PS; Cazentre)
The bracket features almost a dozen challengers. The defending champ is Santangelo's of Liverpool.
The annual Meatball Madness fundraiser returns on Sunday, March 29. It's in a new location: The International Pavilion at the New York State Fairgrounds. (It's been held for several years at Drumlins Country Club in DeWitt.)
Meatball Madness is a competition to determine who makes the best meatballs in Syracuse. It's also a benefit for Elmcrest Children's Center in Syracuse.
Guilio Santangelo will be on hand to defend his restaurant's title, which it's won five previous times in the previous 11 years -- a record for the event. Attilio's on North Salina Street won last year's "People's Choice" award, as voted on by attendees.
Competing meatball makers this year are: Attilio's; Avicolli's; Basil Leaf; Bull and Bear; Canale's; Carnegie Cafe; Market Diner; Limp Lizard; Palace Theater; Santangelo's; and Vince's Gourmet Imports.
The winner gets to keep the "Best Meatballs in Town" trophy for the coming year. Judging is by a group of real judges (from local courts) and some local celebrities.
In addition to sampling the meatballs, guests also dine on an Italian buffet provided by Dominick's Restaurant in Syracuse. Music is by Mickey Vendetti and the Good Times Band. There are also tastings, face-painting, and a chocolate fountain, plus a silent auction.
