Orange Watch Exclusive: SU Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim to Retire in September 2016 (sujuiceonline.com; Bierman)
Item: Nearly two weeks after his Carrier Dome press conference in which he reiterated his “intent” to step down after three more seasons coaching Syracuse basketball, Orange Watch has learned from various sources close to the Syracuse Hall of Famer that his timetable has him coaching only one more collegiate season, then the 2016 Summer Olympics, before hanging up the whistle for good and handing the reigns over to Mike Hopkins just prior to preseason practice in late Sept. 2016.
Whenever we hear the word “intent” or “intention” in relation to someone in a powerful position in life explaining their plans moving forward, we’re always dubious about the complete truthfulness in that individual’s statement, acknowledging the fact that the person believes firmly in what they’re saying at that moment.
It was with that suspicion when Jim Boeheim answered a media member’s question at his hour long March 19 Dome session about his future, confirming he would coach next season, but, “beyond that, I have no plans,” he made clear, reiterating he didn’t think he’d still be coaching at age 70, adding, “(three years) is a long time.”

Thomas Bryant Knows How to Finish
Malachi Richardson: Syracuse Has 'Good Chance' for Thomas Bryant, 'Not Too Worried' About 0 Points in McDonald's Game (PS; Kaberson)
Malachi Richardson was held scoreless in the McDonald's All-America game on Wednesday night at the United Center. But the Syracuse recruit may be close to securing his first-career assist for the Orange.
Richardson spent a lot of time in Chicago the past few days talking to center Thomas Bryant, hoping to convince the big man they should play their college ball together.
"I've been talking to (Thomas) all week," Richardson said after the game. "Trying to figure out if he's going to definitely come. I think we have a good chance for him now."
Richardson played 14 minutes for the West team, missing all six shots he attempted; five of the shots were from 3-point range. He did have a rebound and an assist.
"This week has been great, a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Bryant said. "Just going to play against guys who are just as good as you or better than you, it helps you grow as a person and get better at the game."
Along with Syracuse, Bryant is considering three other schools: Indiana, Missouri and Kentucky. His plan is to discuss the choice with his coaches at West Virginia's Huntington Prep and his mother next week, after the Dick's National Tournament, which begins on Thursday afternoon in New York City.
Bryant added that Richardson's presence at Syracuse helps the Orange's cause, but he would not reveal if he has a favorite among the four schools.
