New Class of 2016 Ratings Have Battle at 15, Moyer at 44 (PS; Carlson)

The Syracuse basketball program will bring in one of the country's top recruiting classes next season thanks to a haul of four of the nation's top 100 recruits.

If things break right, Jim Boeheim and company might achieve something similar with a smaller group in 2016.

Recruiting website Rivals released an update to its top 150 players list on Wednesday, ranking SU's lone commitment, Matthew Moyer, at No. 44.

That ranking constitutes a small slip for Moyer from No. 39 in Rivals' previous update, but it still constitutes a huge jump from the the No. 90 ranking he had last summer when he caught the attention of assistant coach Gerry McNamara.

Since committing to the Orange, Moyer has climbed on every major recruiting list. He currently sits at No. 19 on 247 Sports' list, No. 58 on ESPN's and No. 62 on Scout's.

Biggest Things to Look Forward to in 2015-16 (BR; Neuman!)

The Syracuse basketball season is over, and now so is the recruiting season for the upcoming campaign. Recruitment came to a close when prized big man Thomas Bryant verbally committed to Indiana. That leaves the Orange with four players in the class of 2015 and a fairly thin frontcourt.

It's hard to predict what next year's Orange team will look like. After Trevor Cooney, Michael Gbinije and Tyler Roberson, the team is rife with inexperience.

But it isn't all bad; there is always a silver lining to be found. With that in mind, let's take a look at the biggest things that fans can look forward to for the upcoming season. We'll rank each entry based on how excited fans should be about it and how much it can affect the team's success next year.

Excitement Building for Syracuse Alum Team in 'The Basketball Tournament' (sujuiceonline.com; Dagostino)

The Basketball Tournament. Sounds pretty vague, doesn’t it?

Add in a million-dollar, winner-take-all purse? OK, now you have my attention.

Throw a team made up of former Syracuse basketball players into the field. Well, color me intrigued…

It may have one of the simplest names in all of competitive sports, but TBT attracted some attention last year in its inaugural go-around and it’s back for more in 2015.

The Syracuse team of Josh Pace, Eric Devendorf, Donte Greene, Rick Jackson, Hakim Warrick, Baye Moussa Keita and Brandon Reese became the first of 97 teams to enter the tournament. No amount of money will get a team into the tournament. Fan support is the driving force in who makes up the tournament field.

It’s a pretty compelling idea and has garnered enough of a following not only to bring it back for a second run in 2015, but also to double the prize money to a cool mill.

The 2014 champion was comprised of Notre Dame alumni, including Rob Kurz, Chris Thomas, Torin Francis, Colin Falls and others. So, the premise of getting together a bunch of former college players from a major university has some merit for the Orange faithful.

What If Breanna Stewart Had Picked Syracuse Instead of UConn? (auburnpub.com; Scina)

First off, I want it to be known that Breanna Stewart, as any athlete, has the right to attend whatever college they like. It's obvious why Stewart picked UConn and having won three national championships in three years is proof Stewart made the right choice.

That said, three years after coming out of Cicero-North Syracuse High School, it's too bad she didn't stay home and play basketball at Syracuse University. Stewart is a special kind of player who has kept the Huskies on top of women's basketball. Coach Geno Auriemma had won seven national championships before Stewart arrived in Storrs, Connecticut and he's going to win a few more after Stewart leaves.

If Stewart had chosen the Orange, she would have instantly lifted the program into the top 10 and even more important, could have been the foundation of building a team that someday might be on par with Jim Boeheim's men's team as a national power.

Think about it, if Stewart comes to Syracuse, other highly-touted recruits will likely want to play for the Orange. The influx of talent would help increase the team's attendance at the Carrier Dome and start a cycle of winning.

Donovan McNabb/Raquel Nurse's Niece Helps Lead UConn to NC (therecord.com; Ewing)

The nerves of playing for a women's NCAA basketball title had got the best of UConn rookie Kia Nurse.

The 19-year-old from Hamilton found herself struggling in front of a loud crowd of around 20,000 fans, including a huge travelling group from Connecticut and her famous uncle Donovan McNabb.

"But everybody on the floor at that moment just said, 'You've got this, you're fine. Relax and do what you've been doing all year,'" Nurse said from the Huskies team bus Wednesday morning en route to the airport. "When you can see that trust and that confidence from players like Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson, it's an incredible feeling."

It was Nurse's defining moment of UConn's 63-53 win over Notre Dame in the NCAA women's basketball championship game Tuesday in Tampa, Fla. Hours later, she struggled to describe it.

"The atmosphere was so incredible, to see that on TV and then to get to be a part of it, it's hard to put words to it," Nurse said.

The six-foot guard finished with nine points in front of her personal cheering section that included McNabb and her dad Richard Nurse, a former receiver with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. McNabb tweeted to his 59,000 Twitter followers: "Good luck to the @UConnHuskies tonight. Can't wait to watch #11 Kia Nurse, (my niece) ball out."

Postgame, the former National Football League star quarterback posted celebratory pictures with Nurse and other Huskies players.
