Moustapha Diagne Will Be Playing...

SU Commitments and Recruiting Targets Highlight Rosters for 5th Annual Mary Kline Classic (PS; Waters)

One signed recruit. One verbal commit. And a handful of recruiting targets.

Syracuse fans will have several reasons to be interested in the Mary Kline Classic on Saturday. The fifth annual edition of the high school basketball all-star doubleheader, which raises money for cancer research, will be held at West Orange (N.J.) High School on Saturday.

The Mary Kline Classic will consist of an underclassman game at 6 p.m. followed by a dunk contest, a 3-point shooting contest and, finally, the senior game to end the evening.

Several Syracuse players have played in the Mary Kline Classic's first four years. The list includes Tyler Ennis, Tyler Roberson, B.J. Johnson, Ron Patterson, Chris McCullough and incoming freshmen Frank Howard, Moustapha Diagne and Malachi Richardson.

Here are the players participating in this year's event who will be of the most interest to Syracuse fans:

Moustapha Diagne: Diagne is the only player from Syracuse's 2015 recruiting class who will be in this year's senior game. A 6-foot-9 forward/center, Diagne will be playing close to home. He spent the last three years at Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, N.J. Last season, Diagne led Pope John to its first ever section title and its first appearance in the Tournament of Champions. The Lions lost to Roselle Catholic in the title game.

Matthew Moyer: Moyer is a 6-foot-8 small forward from Gahanna High School in Columbus, Ohio. He's a long, slender forward with good athleticism. His outside shot has been improving.

6'11 PF Juwan Durham of Tampa Prep Set to Visit Syracuse This Fall (tampabay.com; Putnam)

...
Durham on the mend: Tampa Prep's Juwan Durham tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Feb. 17. The injury usually takes about 10 months to fully recover. Durham, though, has accelerated his timetable, so much that the rising senior could return to full basketball activities as early as August.

"Juwan's had tremendous progress," Terrapins coach Joe Fenlon said. "He's ahead of schedule."

Durham continues his rehabilitation three days a week, lifting weights and going through resistance training. He already is in the gym shooting jumpers.

This summer was supposed to be a big one for Durham, one of the most coveted recruits in the country. The 6-foot-11 power forward is a five-star recruit who has 15 offers from major Division I schools.

He was supposed to visit UConn, Syracuse and Villanova during his spring break but those trips were pushed back to the fall because of his injury. Last month, Durham went to Louisville and he is going to a team camp June 19-21 at Miami. He also is scheduled to meet with new Florida coach Mike White this summer, but the date has not been set.

As far as basketball, Fenlon said he hopes to have Durham back by September or October.

"It could be sooner than that the way things are going," Fenlon said. "But we certainly are not trying to rush anything. Juwan has too much at stake and too much a future ahead of him to push anything too hard. I'd be ecstatic if he were able to be back with us by September or October. Right now, everything is moving in the right direction."

Recess Coffee's The Crazy Shawn, a Blend of Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Espresso

Syracuse Cafe Makes List of '20 Coffee Shops in America You Have to Visit' (PS; Herbert)

If you don't like to get your caffeine fix in a corporate cup (see: Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Tim Hortons) then a cafe in Central New York may be just right for you.

People magazine has put together a list of the top "20 Coffee Shops in America You Have to Visit," and the Recess Coffee House & Roastery in Syracuse, N.Y. made the cut.

"Tucked inside the first floor of a coverted house and filled with cozy chairs and couches, this cafe is the perfect place to curl up and escape the bitter Upstate New York winters," Diana Pearl writes in the publication.

In fact, Recess is the only shop in Upstate New York named among "quaint cafes [that] have serious caffeine cred." The Empire State's only other java peddler on the list is The Chipped Cup in New York City.

According to its website, Recess prides itself on roasting beans direct from farms missions of sustainability at its custom production facility, where roasters "test every batch to assure consistency and quality with each cup, so that you can enjoy a great tasting coffee not just from our café, but from the comfort of your home."

The original Recess Coffee House & Roastery opened in 2006 at 110 Harvard Place, just off Westcott Street and near Syracuse University. A satellite cafe is open at the Syracuse Stage, located at 820 East Genesee Street, and Recess also supplies coffee for area restaurants like Alto Cinco, Funk N Waffles, Pastabilities, Phoebe's and Strong Hearts Cafe.

On National Coffee Day, several locals recommended Recess menu offerings like the Red Eye with a splash of soy milk, a Quad Capp Dry (quadruple-shot cappuccino with very little milk) or just a plain ol' cup o' joe.

SU Alumna, Reporter Charnice Milton, Killed on Assignment in Washington DC (PS; Fleming)

Syracuse University alumna and Washington D.C. reporter Charnice Milton was shot and killed while returning home from an assignment Wednesday night.

Milton was headed home after covering an advisory committee meeting in Washington D.C. Wednesday night when she was fatally shot near a bus stop, reports The Washington Post.

Milton covered activities of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions and other public meetings, but later wrote profiles and reviewed museum exhibits, according to her employer, Capital Community News.

Milton attended Ball State for her undergraduate degree and later received a master's degree in Magazine, Newspaper and Online Journalism from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2011.

"She was extremely reliable, extremely diligent, and incredibly intrepid," Andrew Lightman, managing editor of CCN told The Washington Post. "She was one of a handful of reporters across the District who was looking at the nuts and bolts of everyday life."

Police say Milton was shot by a man on a dirt bike, but was not the intended target. She was reportedly used as a human shield by a bystander, reports NBC Washington.

Otis was one of my favorites. He brought the tough when we needed it. He had a tough time in his sophomore year, I believe that was when his father died, but he battled through that to help us get to the final as a junior and then have a nice senior year.

Otis, my man! Sit back, relax, have a listen and of course: Happy Friday, everyone.
