SU Basketball Recruiting: Who Will be the Orange's Next Commit? (TNIAAM; Sigel)
It's no surprise that Syracuse was caught off guard when 2016 5-star guard Tyus Battle committed to Michigan. Everyone was. However, the coaching staff has inserted themselves as contenders to still land a few prized recruits. Let's look at the Class of 2016 and see who might be the next player to commit.
Commits: Matthew Moyer
Targets: James Banks, Alterique Gilbert, Sedee Keita and Kobi Simmons.
Numbers: One scholarship available (including Moyer's commitment).
It's no secret that Syracuse is looking to add another guard to the 2016 class. Alterique Gilbert is the most realistic option, and he could be visiting Syracuse for an official visit shortly. NunesMagician.com reported last month that SU was currently setting up an official visit with the 4-star prospect. A date has not yet been scheduled.
4-star power forward Sedee Keita has kept in touch with Coach McNamara. The two have developed a strong relationship. Keita told NunesMagician.com last month that he intends to visit Syracuse before making his college decision.
Coach Hopkins has remained in-contact with James Banks, a top-10 center in the class. Banks confirmed to NunesMagician.com that he talks with Hopkins regularly and remains interested in Syracuse. SU offered Banks in April.
Kobi Simmons, a 5-star combo-guard, remains a mystery for Syracuse. At the end of May, Simmons reportedly remained interest in Syracuse. SU was somewhOrangeyes Daily Articles for Wednesdayat late to the party for the top 5 guard, but it hasn't shown yet. Kobi is likely to cut his list soon, but the Orange are expected to make the cut.
Who commits next? Alterique Gilbert.

Syracuse Basketball Profile: Moustapha Diagne (isportsweb.com; Moran)
Will Moustapha Diagne make an impact for Syracuse basketball? This week’s profile features the Senegalese 6′ 9″ 240 pound power forward from Pope John Paul XXIII High School who was ranked number three in New Jersey according to MaxPreps.com. He is also currently ranked #56 in ESPN’s Top 100 high school players in the country. Diagne also competed on AAU team Playaz Basketball and has competed in the Jordan and Mary Kline Classic in which he scored 12 points on six of eight shooting this past Saturday night.
Diagne averaged 14.7 points per game with 12 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots per game in the 2014-15 season. He also played the number five position, but with his size he will have to use his rebounding and wing span to fight for baskets within the paint. He is very quick and able to run the court, which may give Syracuse an advantage running the fast break. His role will be off the bench for Dajuan Coleman as he returns to the lineup, Chinoso Obokoh could split time with Diagne. If he comes off the bench and plays in the middle, he will be competing against the likes of Florida State’s 7-3 incoming freshman Center Christ Koumadje or North Carolina’s Junior PF Brice Johnson who could be matched up against Diagne as the Orange and Tar Heels square off twice next season.
Diagne will also have to adapt to the 2-3 zone that Syracuse is well-known for. His playing time could also be impacted by how much assistant coach Mike Hopkins allows him to play when Coach Jim Boeheim is on suspension for his role in the NCAA academic fraud scandal. If Coleman struggles or has recurring injury problems, Diagne could be launched into a starting role.
