Welcome to National Raspberry Bombe Day!
While you're frying up some eggs and bacon, we're cooking up something else: a way to celebrate today's food holiday.
Today's food holiday is the bomb(e)-dot-com: August 11 is National Raspberry Bombe Day, so put on your sassiest waist apron and dig out the retro dishes!
For those of you still scratching your culinary noggin, a bombe or bombe glacée is one of those great throwback ice cream desserts, frozen in a spherical mold. You can also make a gelatin-inspired variation, hence the jiggly-wiggly image.
According to this newspaper clipping, a typical bombe combines sherbet, ice cream, heavy cream, chopped nuts, candied fruit and even a spot of rum. When you layer up this little beauty in a mold and freeze it overnight, you've got a centerpiece-worthy dessert that was made for summer.
Bombes away!

Will JB Really Coach SU Basketball Three More Seasons? (thejuice; Bierman)
When Jim Boeheim revealed publicly at his hour long press conference on March 19 that he “planned” to coach three more years through the 2017-18 season, and that he would have likely retired after the surprise run to the Final Four in 2013 had it not been for the pesky intrusion of the NCAA investigation into the athletic program, we got an inside look at the thought process Boeheim utilized that now leads to embarking on his unimaginable 40th season running ‘Cuse hoops.
Forward three months later, and several days after the June introduction of new AD Mark Coyle came the official university confirmation that Mike Hopkins is the basketball head coach in-waiting. With (pending appeal) a built in nine game litmus test for Hopkins against tough ACC competition coming up this winter, Orange Nation will have a much better feel for what it’s going to be like with Coach Hop directing from the sideline, and in this day and age of instant, real time reaction, it won’t take long to gauge the Nation’s pulse concerning the future of SU basketball.
“I told every recruit when I recruited them, ‘I’m going to coach you next year,’” Boeheim said back on the day the NCAA Tournament’s second round got underway. “And after that, I can’t guarantee anything and no other coach can, either.”

Justin Moss was MAC Player of the Year in 2014-15
UB Basketball Program in Limbo After On-Campus Theft (buffalonews.com; Gaughan)
The status of University at Buffalo star basketball player Justin Moss is uncertain in the wake of his involvement in an on-campus theft.
Moss and fellow UB basketball players Raheem Johnson and Mory Diane were caught in June stealing money – a total of $650 – from the dorm room of two other students on the Amherst Campus, according to a University Police report obtained by The News.
The basketball players returned the money and the two victims in the case agreed not to press charges. However, the case was turned over to the Student-Wide Judiciary, which handles student misconduct.
Moss was the Player of the Year in the Mid-American Conference last season and led UB’s run to its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
The News obtained the police report through a Freedom of Information request.
The police report states that as of June 5, Moss, Johnson and Diane were suspended from the team.
“The players are enrolled at the university and are members of the men’s basketball team,” said John DellaContrada, associate vice president for media relations. “Because of federal privacy laws protecting student records, the university cannot confirm or comment on student conduct proceedings.”
The Student-Wide Judiciary conducts hearings on cases of student misconduct. It is believed a hearing on the case will be held soon to determine the players’ status.
