Welcome to National Banana Split Day!
Today is National Banana Split Day! This decadent dessert has been around since the early 1900s and is the perfect treat to enjoy on a warm summer night.
The split is a variation of the traditional ice cream sundae and is usually served in a special dish called a banana boat. It’s easy to make, but you’ll need quite a few ingredients! First, split a banana and place a slice on either side of your boat. Then add three scoops of ice cream in between—one of chocolate, one of vanilla, and one of strawberry. Generously top the chocolate scoop with hot fudge, the vanilla with candied pineapple, and the strawberry with strawberry sauce. Next, swirl whipped cream over each scoop. Finish it off with a sprinkle of crushed nuts and a few maraschino cherries. Yum!
To celebrate National Banana Split Day, set up a make-your-own banana split buffet and invite your friends over for an impromptu ice cream social. Enjoy!

Boom Boom Mex Mex Reopening Reopening (PS; Cazentre)
That boom you just heard? It's the cheering from fans of Boom Boom Mex Mex, the seasonal Mexican eatery that left many Central New Yorkers heartbroken last spring when it didn't reopen for the first time in 10 years..
New owner Gino Laurenzo, working with former owners Tom and Lupe Bryan, is hoping to reopen the no frills, cafeteria-style restaurant at 3263 Howlett Hill Road in Camillus in a few weeks, or just after the New York State Fair. He's hiring workers now and lining up permits.
"Everything will be just about 100 percent the same," said Laurenzo. "Same recipes, same menu, same operation.
"Everybody loved it,' he said, "so why mess with that?"
Laurenzo bought the business and the property from the Bryans this summer. They are in Central New York now, working with him on the transition for about a month before returning to Mexico to continue their retirement.
Starting in 2005, the Bryans had opened Boom Boom each April and closed each November. They had also operated at the State Fair and used to run a mobile stand called Boom Boom BBQ.
