Welcome to Festivus!

Festivus is both a parody and a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 that serves as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. It has been described as "the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering".[1]

Originally a family tradition of scriptwriter Dan O'Keefe, who worked on the American sitcom Seinfeld, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 episode"The Strike".[1][2] The holiday's celebration, as it was shown on Seinfeld, includes a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, practices such as the "Airing of Grievances" and "Feats of Strength", and the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles".[3]

The episode refers to it as "a Festivus for the rest of us", referencing its non-commercialaspect. It has also been described both as a "parody holiday festival" and as a form of playful consumer resistance.[4]

SU 82 Montana State 60: Obokoh Explosion (TNIAAM; Szuba)

The Syracuse Orange were able to continue its reign over Montana teams as Mike Hopkins' club routed Montana State in tonight's matchup. Okay, Mike Hopkins' club reads a little strange, but the interim head coach/coach-in-waiting/any surrogate coaching moniker you can think of, has Syracuse playing very good basketball again in its last two games.

DaJuan Coleman got things started for Syracuse as the junior big man scored 6 points, grabbed four rebounds and had a block in the games first six minutes.

Syracuse fans got a preview of what the top of next season's zone will look like as Kaleb Joseph and Frank Howard played alongside each other for extended minutes in the first half. Chinonso Obokoh was able to score his first points on the year off an assist from Michael Gbinije in the first half and would go on to have his best game in a Syracuse uniform.

Syracuse Hammers Cold-Shooting Bobcats 82-60 (billingsgazette.com; Staff)

On the heels of two subpar performances, Montana State coach Brian Fish hoped for improved shooting for the Bobcats in their road test against Syracuse on Tuesday.

But the Cats started ice-cold, struggled through the first half and it was too late by the time they recovered in an 82-60 loss in front of 17,202 fans at the Carrier Dome.

Michael Gbinije scored 17 points for Syracuse to lead all scorers. DaJuan Coleman added 13 points and Tyler Lydon had 10 points and nine rebounds.

“I was concerned about us in a dome and us being passive, and we were,” Fish said during his postgame radio interview. “But again, there’s not a lot of teams in the Big Sky like that.”

It was the Bobcats’ third consecutive loss and served as the final game of their preseason schedule. They begin Big Sky Conference play on New Year’s Eve at Southern Utah, then play at Northern Arizona on Jan. 2.

Watch LeBron James Jr's Killer Crossover (PS; Vardon)

There's a new highlight reel featuring LeBron James Jr. dominating a youth basketball tournament last weekend, showcasing most of the same considerable talents we've seen in the past from the now 11-year-old son of the game's greatest player.

But Junior must've worked on his handle since last season.

As you enjoy the clips of James Jr.'s mastery in a Houston holiday tournament for the second-consecutive year, you'll see perhaps the niftiest dribbling to date from LeBron James' eldest son.

The video is courtesy of TakeMyTalent.com, a small production outfit that creates highlight tapes of top basketball players, from early in their youth through high school, in Texas and at tournaments in other states.

LeBron James granted permission to cleveland.com to post the highlight videos of his son when available. Last season, he lamented the explosion of interest in Junior.
