Welcome to National Bird Day!

Why National Bird Day?
  • The beauty, songs, and flight of birds have long been sources of human inspiration.
  • Today, nearly 12 percent of the world's 9,800 bird species may face extinction within the next century, including nearly one-third of the world's 330 parrot species.
  • Birds are sentinel species whose plight serves as barometer of ecosystem health and alert system for detecting global environmental ills.
  • Many of the world's parrots and songbirds are threatened with extinction due to pressures from the illegal pet trade, disease, and habitat loss.
  • Public awareness and education about the physical and behavioral needs of birds can go far in improving the welfare of the millions of birds kept in captivity.
  • The survival and well-being of the world's birds depends upon public education and support for conservation.

Clemson vs Syracuse: 5 Things to Watch (PS photo gallery; Waters)

The Syracuse Orange (10-5, 0-2) will look to get its first ACC win as it hosts Clemson (8-6, 1-1) at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night. This will be SU's first ACC home game. Syracuse hasn't lost its first three conference games since starting out with four straight Big East losses in 1996-97. Last year, Clemson thumped Syracuse and Trevor Cooney (pictured) in a 66-53 win in Clemson, S.C. Tuesday's game will be the last in SU coach Jim Boeheim's nine-game suspension. The game will start at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network.

'Iris' Movie Trailer: Syracuse Never Looked so Sexy and Dangerous (PS; Herbert)

The first trailer for Christopher Steinberger's feature-length film debut is here, and Syracuse never looked so sexy and dangerous.

The East Syracuse-Minoa High School graduate shot "Iris" in Central New York with local actors and Kickstarter funding for his own production company, launched two years ago as Watchworks Studios.

The movie is an action thriller starring Michelle Hunter of Camillus as a red-haired thief named Charlotte, who steals powerful technology from her engineer ex-boyfriend Carson (Patrick Kelly). Chaos ensues when it ends up in the wrong hands, and she reluctantly reunites with him to get it back -- but it won't be easy.

"Don't play hero," a tagline warns.

A 2-minute video previews several fight scenes, impressive special effects and a slick style, as well as quick shots of scenes filmed in Minoa and around Syracuse.

ugh so this probably means the place is going to be a morgue tonight, eh?

Notice that when the students are gone, SU treats the unoccupied lower level student seats as 'Preferred D".
