It’s Peppermint Patty Day! A peppermint patty is a tasty confection made with a rich, creamy peppermint filling covered in semisweet chocolate. The York Cone Company, which was based in Pennsylvania and originally produced ice cream cones, invented the York Peppermint Pattie in 1940. Unlike the existing chocolate-covered peppermint candies, York’s product was firm and crisp. It soon became the premier candy of its kind.
Peppermint patties also gained notoriety after the debut of Peanuts, Charles M. Schultz's famous comic strip, in 1966. One of the main characters was Patricia "Peppermint Patty" Reichardt.

What If An 'Airline Conference' Had Become Reality? (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
"What if" is always a fascinating topic, no matter the subject. The alternate history genre seems to grow with each passing year -- reminding me to implore you to start watching "The Man in the High Castle" on Amazon if you don't already.
In sports "what ifs," the stakes are obviously a bit lower than something like alt-endings to World War II or other various, time-altering shifts. But because of that, they're also a lot of fun to quickly get lost in. And that's how we end up with a lengthy conversation around the "Airline Conference."
Over on SB Nation's Podcast Ain't Played Nobody, Bill Connelly and Steven Godfrey dive into the repercussions of a short-lived idea back in 1959:
"It's a time of upheaval and social change. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper just died in a plane crash, The Coasters' "Charlie Brown" is a hit, Rio Bravo is a hit at the box office, and USC, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Washington, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pitt, and some combination of Syracuse, Duke, Georgia Tech, and the service academies are thinking about forming a super-conference."
Bill and Steven go into what all of that means for a lot of those teams (as does this post from Bill in 2012), but not as much with Syracuse -- which is where we come in. What would've happened to the then-Orangemen had they joined a conference seemingly spanning from coast to coast?

How Much Snow Will Fall in Upstate NY Lake Effect Storm? (PS; Coin)
Another lake effect snow storm is bearing down on Upstate New York today.
With cold winds from the northwest blowing over warm Great Lakes, a foot or more of snow could stack up downwind of lakes Erie and Ontario.
The National Weather Service has issued lake effect snow warnings for parts of Central and Western New York.
We've compiled the interactive map above to show how much snow might fall where you live or where you might be heading. This is based on the latest National Weather Service forecasts.
Click on a spot on the map, and the estimated snowfall amount will pop up. This shows the total expected from 1 p.m. today to 7 a.m. Friday.
As Upstate New Yorkers know, lake effect snow storms are notoriously difficult to predict. A slight shift in winds can push heavy snows to a different part of the region, and sometimes snow bands will stay put over some areas.
After the storm moves out, the coldest air of the season will sink in over the weekend. Temperatures could fall below zero.
