What a perfect opportunity to celebrate its bright and colourful addition to the world with Crayola Crayon Day! Crayola began its life as a company when cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith took over a pigment business in 1885 that Edwin’s father owned. Since then, they have produced a core set of 120 crayon colours; but they have also come out with many unique sets; including metallic coloured crayons, gem tones colours, and even scented ones. So, why not let your inner child out on Crayola Crayon Day? Find a colouring book and a box of Crayola crayons, and get to work? It’s a therapeutic and enjoyable way to pass some time, and you can even hang your finished picture on your fridge when you’re done! SU News Highlights From Wednesday Morning Practice (scout; Ferguson) As they say in Hollywood, "That's a wrap." Well not entirely, as the Orange still have one more portion left to their Spring Training regiment. SU will play its Spring Football Game on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Carrier Dome. 'Cuse Nation will finally get its first official look at the squad under Head Coach Dino Babers, and potentially get a flavor for the kind of the team that will take the field this fall. As it has been said all along, the pace with which this program will be playing at on both sides of the ball is fast. The players and coaching staff have been working for a little over a month refining and developing both a new playbook and new philosophy. It is hard to translate practice performance with future game results, but with newly defined goals and aspirations the Orange will certainly be looking to flip the script on recent seasons' results. Today's final practice session open to the media featured much of the same drills that have been viewed throughout the Spring season, but here are a few takeaways from the Ensley Athletic Center this morning: ... Does Saturday Have Room for the SU Spring Football Game AND the Men's Final Four? (TNIAAM; Cassillo) Oh, here's a problem no one thought about (and you can't really blame them there). Back in February, we learned that the Syracuse Orange spring football game would take place on April 2. A host of other activities have been released since, and it looks like it's going to be an exciting day for SU fans anxious for the Dino Babers era to start. ... Or that was the plan, until the SU men's basketball team made the Final Four. Their opening game (as you know) takes place on Saturday night against North Carolina in far-away Houston. The Syracuse women's team, also in their own Final Four, plays on Sunday night against Washington in closer-by (but still not close) Indianapolis. Is anyone sensing a bit of a problem? For all the (rightfully) expected fanfare at the football game, the one thing no one planned on was a good portion of fans either in Houston already or prepping for watching the Final Four later that day. No, the 11 a.m. ET start doesn't really interfere with the games, but if you're hosting a party and live 20-25 minutes from campus, perhaps your mind's elsewhere that morning. I know, I know... this sounds like I'm excusing people. And to be honest, maybe I am. ... Other Boy George and Culture Club to Perform Free Show at NYS Fair's Chevy Court (PS; Herbert) Break out your '80s fashion for one night at the 2016 New York State Fair. The reunited Culture Club, featuring lead singer Boy George, will perform a free show at Chevy Court on Friday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. It's the British band's first appearance ever at the Great New York State Fair. "This is a rare chance to see them live in Upstate New York," NYS Fair Acting Director Troy Waffner said Thursday. The group, best known for new wave rock hits like "Karma Chameleon," "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," and "I'll Tumble For Ya," split in 1986 amid legal troubles for Boy George. The androgynous frontman eventually forged a solo career, later finding success as a DJ and, more recently, a reality star on shows like "The Voice UK" and "Celebrity Apprentice" later this year. He reunited with band members Mikey Craig, Roy Hay and Jon Moss for several shows over the years, but finally did a full tour last year. The original lineup, together for the NYS Fair show, is also working on "Tribes," its first album of original music in 17 years, to be released later this year. ...
