Welcome to National Teacher Day!

Teachers give us so much. A boost of confidence when we really need one. Extra help when we’re having trouble. A welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. And though we know we can’t ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation Week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.
Join NEA and the National PTA in saying “Thank You” by sharing one of the following on social media during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6:

  • A picture of yourself with your favorite teacher, past or present;
  • A picture of your child with his or her teacher;
  • A picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with a simple message saying Thank You to a teacher and why you’re thanking him or her.

Tommy DeVito Outplays Johnathan Lewis and Kenny Pickett at the 2016 Nike Football Opening Regional (nj.com; Hunt)

Sunday, upwards of 500 of the Northeast's top football talents ascended to Florham Park for the Nike Football New Jersey Opening Regional, held at the New York Jets facility.

And there was no shortage of talent from N.J. as players from the Garden State stood out from most position groups.

Earning top honors from the state were Cherry Hill West junior cornerback Harrison Hand, who earned defensive back MVP and a trip to The Opening, and Don Bosco junior signal caller Tommy DeVito, quarterback MVP and one of only two quarterbacks selected to participate in the Elite 11 finals.

Hand was special. In addition to the 4.4-second 40-yard dash he ran, Hand has great length, uses his hands well, is always in position to make a play and can run stride for stride with long, fast receivers. Going into the weekend, colleges knew Hand could run. But now they know he's a football player, and one of the region's best, hands down.

DeVito, the Syracuse commit, showed tremendous poise, arm strength and the ability to consistently stretch the field, and overall, drove the football as well as any quarterback at the event. His ball placement and footwork improved throughout the day to the point where it ultimately helped catapult him to the top of the rankings.

Tommy DeVito Gets Elite 11 Finals Invite with Outstanding Performance at Nike Combine (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Syracuse Orange fans were pretty excited to see New Jersey product Tommy DeVito commit for the class of 2017 just last month. The Don Bosco Prep quarterback was already pretty well-regarded in the Northeast, and now it seems like those accolades could continue to grow nationally.

As DeVito discussed briefly with Syracuse.com's Stephen Bailey yesterday, he'll be headed to Los Angeles for the Elite 11 Finals, June 3-5. Said DeVito:

"I am very excited because I have been watching the Elite 11 on TV for years and it is any quarterback's dream to be a part of it. I enjoy competing with and hanging out with the best athletes from the State of New Jersey and around the country in a fun, competitive atmosphere."

The Elite 11, one of several national recruiting events, is specifically for quarterbacks. Top performers from the June finals will head to Beaverton, Ore. for the Opening Finals at Nike Headquarters, July 5-10.

Latest ACC Title Shows SU Climbing Up Conference Championship Leaderboard (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

After winning its second consecutive ACC men's lacrosse championship yesterday, the Syracuse Orange gave the athletic department its sixth conference title since joining its new league. While SU sports were very successful in football (for a time) and men's basketball, its abilities to take home league titles sort of ended with those two. As you'll recall, the Big East lacrosse league was only founded at the back end of our time in the conference. Otherwise, maybe we would've ended up taking home a lot more hardware.

In any case, that sixth championship is significant because it pulls the Orange even with fellow Big East defector Miami for 11th on the ACC's all-time list. Unfortunately, the next plateau is a bit distant: Virginia Tech, who's 10th with 18 in all sports. North Carolina leads the conference with 263.

So yes, in the big scheme of things, this largely lacks much significance. But on a small scale, it has... some for the long-term outlook of Syracuse sports in the ACC. Pittsburgh and Louisville still lack an ACC title, three and two years, respectively, into their league tenures. Boston College has one since arriving in 2005. Notre Dame's won four, but is largely considered an all-sports power. Miami is located in athlete-rich South Florida, and has been in the league since 2004.

9. Syracuse. New coach Dino Babers has yet to name a starter, but he has options. Eric Dungey appears to be the front-runner after a strong spring game (297 yards, seven touchdowns), while Zack Mahoney and Austin Wilson have all played in games for the Orange. Dungey showed flashes before he got hurt last year, and has a chance to move this group up (if he starts and stays healthy).

what are we doing

Ask the guys who want USC, LSU, Wisconsin, ad nauseum on our OOC schedule.
What the hell, why not add OSU and 'Bama while they're at it?:crazy:
