Whether you’re jumping over a frog or jumping like one, today is a great day for hippity-hoppers.
Frog Jumping Day can be traced back to Missouri author Mark Twain, and his first short story, “Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog.” If you’d like to read this story today, it’s also known as “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” as well as “The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.”
Frogs make great pocket pets, so you may want to celebrate Frog Jumping Day by getting a frog—or a toad—as a pet. Many frogs are simple to care for, fun to watch, and can be a great first pet for children—as long as they maintain proper hand washing techniques!
Raising pet frogs can be as simple as buying a frog habitat with a coupon for tadpoles, and raising your frogs from infancy. Tadpoles can be super simple to raise. But it can be a lot more fun to pick out Kermit all grown-up, especially for young children eager to see their frog all ready to hop and croak!

Dino Babers Adds Intrigue at Syracuse, But Will He Also Add Wins? (espn; Hale)
Dino Babers searches for a way to properly contextualize all he believes about his new regime at Syracuse, but it’s tough. How does he explain a system he’s purposefully worked to keep undefined, unexpected?
What he wants to do at Syracuse is grandiose. He wants to take one of college football’s most tradition-rich but least-interesting programs (at least for the last decade) and make it relevant.
This requires some outside-the-box thinking, and while that comes naturally to Babers, it’s not always easy to extrapolate those big ideas percolating in his head into a nuanced explanation for outsiders. He’s notorious for coaching without a playbook. There’s no sense in writing any of this down, since the whole point is to adjust often enough that he never becomes predictable.
“Do you play checkers?” he asks. “How about chess?”
He grins.
“I play both, but I prefer chess,” he says. “Frankly, checkers is kind of boring to me.”
In this analogy, the powers that be are playing checkers, and Syracuse has been particularly bad at it.

SU Football Recruiting: Rounding Up a Busy Week for the Orange (TNIAAM; Orsenigo)
The Syracuse Orange football program has had a busy last few days. On Tuesday, 3-star outside linebacker/defensive end Zach Morton from Cass Tech HS in Detroit, MI announced his intention to commit to SU, as first reported by Scout's Mike McAllister. For more on Morton, check out John Cassillo's article on his commitment.
On Wednesday, 3-star safety James Pierre took an official visit to Syracuse. Pierre, a member of the Class of 2016 from Deerfield Beach High School in Deerfield Beach, FL, originally signed a National Letter of Intent with the North Carolina Tar Heelsback in February, but was denied admissions by the school. He just received his release from them last Thursday, and is turning his attention to the Orange.

Syracuse has also sent out a few scholarship offers in the last few days. On Tuesday, T.J. Moore, a 3-star Class of 2017 offensive tackle out of Mallard Creek HS in Charlotte, NC, announced that he had received an official offer from SU. According to Moore, it is the 16th offer he has received. His offer list also includes North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisville, and Maryland, among others.

For SU Seniors, One More Soiree Before Commencement (PS; Sturtz)
Nearly 2,000 of Syracuse University's soon to be newly minted alumni gathered for one last soiree before the pomp and circumstance of commencement on Sunday.
Senior Celebration, one of the final events seniors can participate in with classmates, was held Thursday night at the War Memorial at the Oncenter in Syracuse.
The basketball-themed event was offered free of charge and each senior was allowed to bring a guest. Student danced, shot baskets and played a version of laser tag. Music was provided by DJ Maestro. Food and beverages were offered, and four beers could be had for $8 for anyone who arrived before 11 p.m.
In years past seniors celebrated the end of final exams by congregating on Marshall Street the Thursday before commencement. The raucous and sometimes destructive nature of the event earned it the nickname "Trash Night."
