This year we’ve simplified the reward. In order to make the award more consistent for all and provide the highest guest experience, anyone wearing anything cowlike will receive a free entrée! Guests in cow attire may select any breakfast, lunch or dinner entrée. Kids dressed like a cow may select a Kid's Meal. SU News Syracuse football kicker Cole Murphy named to Lou Groza Watch List (PS; Mink) Junior kicker Cole Murphy was named to the 2016 Lou Groza Award Watch List, it was announced Thursday. The award is annually presented to the nation's best kicker. The Castaic, Calif., native enters the year ranked third in program history for career field-goal percentage (76.3). In two years, Murphy has connected on 29-of-38 attempts, including a 50 percent clip from distances of at least 40 yards. He was named a third-team All-ACC honoree by Athlon Sports earlier this preseason. There are 30 kickers on this year's watch list. ... Syracuse Football: Orange Schedule Middle Tennessee for September 9, 2017 (TNIAAM; Cassillo) THANK THE LORD The Syracuse Orange scheduled a future non-conference football game. I KNOW! Seemed impossible, but nearly a year from the last confirmed date (with Wisconsin...), Syracuse Athletics has locked up an opponent for an upcoming year. SU will host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on September 9, 2017. It's the third confirmed game for 2017, along with Central Michigan (September 16) and a road game at LSU (September 23). That leaves one spot left -- the opener -- which will probably be filled with an FCS squad. Syracuse points out that this is the Orange's first game against a current Conference USA opponent, which seems odd until you realize what a revolving door that league's membership has been over the years. As Dan and I mentioned on last month's C-USA preview podcast, most would be hard-pressed to name every member of that conference. While we haven't faced MTSU in football before, we played them fairly recently in basketball, which led to us needing to do some apologizing to America. ... ACC opponent completes MTSU's 2017 non-conference football schedule | Nashville Post (nashvillepost.com; Boclair) Middle Tennessee State University announced Thursday the completion of its 2017 non-conference football schedule with the addition of a game at Atlantic Coast Conference member Syracuse. Both schools announced the contest, which will take place Sept. 9, 2017, at the Carrier Dome. It will be the first time the programs meet. Three of the Blue Raiders’ four non-conference contests in 2017 are against teams from the power five conferences — Syracuse (ACC), Sept. 2 vs. Vanderbilt (SEC), and Sept. 16 at Minnesota (Big Ten). The exception is a Sept. 23 home game against Bowling Green. MTSU has not faced an ACC opponent since 2013, a 40-20 loss at North Carolina. It has scheduled a home-and-home series with Duke in 2019 (home) and 2020 (away). ... How Syracuse AD John Wildhack Can Help Turn Around Football - TU (todaysu.com; Holcomb) It isn’t every day that one gets to choose who your boss is going to be, but make no mistake, Syracuse football coach Dino Babers sure did. Babers was reportedly apart of a six member search committee to find a new athletic director after the departure of Mark Coyle less than a year into his tenure. The consensus feeling around Syracuse athletics after Coyle left was betrayal, so the search committee had the tough task of finding someone who was qualified for the position and would remain loyal to the orange and blue. Syracuse found both in long-time ESPN executive John Wildhack. Not only is Wildhack a Buffalo native, he is also a Syracuse alum and he expressed his strong admiration for the school Wednesday. “The only place I would leave ESPN for is Syracuse.” Wildhack also went on to reel off several other family members who attended Syracuse, so with that, Babers can put a big fat check mark next to loyalty. Coming from his vice president for programming position at ESPN, the immediate direct impact Wildhack will make on the football program is murky, but he is still the right athletic director to turn around the program. The No. 1 reason that’s the case is he meets Babers’ approval. ... Other Amphitheater workers complain to OSHA: Dirty drinking water, 1 bathroom for 100 employees (PS; Coin) Workers at the Lakeview Amphitheater filed a complaint last week with OSHA, saying they're forced to breathe dust from the parking lot, drink dirty water and share a single bathroom. The complaint was filed June 28 against SMG Corp., the company hired to run the amphitheater, which is owned by Onondaga County. Kelly Carr, SMG's general manager for the amphitheater, said today all the problems have been corrected and that the company is filing an official response to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration today. The first page of an OSHA notice posted at the Lakeview Amphitheater.
