Welcome to Frankenstein Friday!
Frankenstein Friday celebrates he birth of Frankenstein and its creator. Frankenstein is one of the best known horror characters, dating back to the 1800's. We can't imagine the Halloween season without the presence of Frankenstein, lurking somewhere in the darkness.
Frankenstein was born in 1818 when Mary Wollenstonecraft Shelley, at the age of 21, wrote the story "Frankenstein".
Frankenstein's Mother: Mary Wollenstone Shelley
Frankenstein's Father: Boris Karloff
To celebrate this day, we suggest you read the novel, or see a Frankenstein movie.

Syracuse offers addressing concerns at RB, safety (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
While we’re all pretty happy with a 4-4 start for the Syracuse Orange, it’s not without its concerns. Two of those trouble spots are the secondary and running back positions. The safety position has gotten better over the course of the season due to improved production from players like Rodney Williams and Daivon Ellison, but overall, it’s still been an injury-plagued and thin spot. At running back, Dontae Strickland hasn’t been able to move the ball well behind a banged-up offensive line, though another reason could be his slimmer build (same goes for Moe Neal).
Recent SU recruiting offers are looking to address these concerns.
First up is 3-star Florida (Kissimmee) running back Markenzy Pierre, who’s currently committed to Western Kentucky. The 5-foot-11, 218-pound back would seem to fit the mold of an inside power back, much in the same build as Jo-El Shaw, who failed to qualify at Syracuse this past summer.
Pierre already knows SU freshman safety Devon Clarke, and is currently being recruited by co-offensive coordinator Sean Lewis. Lewis offerd him on Wednesday, and Pierre shared some of Coach’s feedback with Syracuse.com:
"He let me know that the coaches' favorite play is power and the backs they have right now aren't physically able to run the ball downhill. He liked that I have the size and natural strength that none of the guys he has now do."

Orange Watch: During bye week, Syracuse football can taste a bowl game invite - The Juice Online (the juice; Bierman)
Item: As unlikely as it seemed only a couple of weeks ago, following two straight ACC wins for just the second time in four conference seasons, and with four games to play to get perhaps a minimum of two victories to lock up a post-season bowl bid, the Syracuse football team heads into its open week with a little momentum, a ton more experience playing the schemes on both sides of the ball, and relishing the new-found national media attention that came with the Dino Babers post-Virginia Tech viral video and subsequent Sports Illustrated feature on an offense that’s producing “a game that’s faster than you’ve ever seen on turf.”
If there was ever a reason, and in this case a season, in which you can easily point to why there are too many bowl games to justify any sort of reward for a team having a strong year, and by that definition finishing at least at .500, it’s 2016 with 41 bowl games (the two College Football Playoff semifinal winners meet in the championship game) opening up spots for a total of 82 teams.
That’s 82 teams out of 128 FBS schools (65%) that are going bowling, and as of the games played prior to the week of Oct. 24, only 76 teams had records of .500 or better, meaning if the season ended today six teams with 5-7 records would be selected based on having a top five Academic Progress Rate (APR) score.
Besides sitting at 4-4 overall, and with some momentum heading into an open week that Babers said on this week’s ACC coaches teleconference was well-timed for his team “to heal, (while also providing) time to work with our twos and threes (on the depth chart) and turn it into a little bit of a spring practice and help the underbelly of our team continue to develop,” there’s a lot of highlights for any bowl committee member to be excited about.
A progressive offensive philosophy that snaps more plays than virtually anyone, and uses all four downs to move the chains. Check.
An offensive that has shattered school passing and receiving records as if they were standing still in the record book from game one, with Eric Dungey and Amba Etta-Tawo among the current conference players of the week. Check.

Penn State put 'squeeze' on Syracuse in 1974, vintage football photos (pennlive.com; Kiner)
The Penn State Nittany Lions put the "squeeze" on Syracuse University on Oct. 19, 1974, according to The Sunday Patriot-News headline.
"Joe Paterno often talks about Tom Shuman's strong arm. He's never mentioned Shuman's fee," wrote Ronnie Christ. "Shuman may be the slowest runner Paterno has, but the Pottstown Pitcher got his feet in motion often enough to run for two touchdowns and pass for another in leading the 9th-ranked Nittany Lions to a comeback 30-14 victory over Syracuse before 59,100 here yesterday.

"The fastest gun in the East got beat to the draw and reacted just the way an old gunfighter would. Shuman didn't panic when Syracuse opened a 14-3 lead in the second period. He maintained his poise and directed State touchdown drives of 80, 89, 80 and 66 yards enroute to a team total offense of 530 yards."
ACC Football: Three Impact Coastal Division Games in Week 9 (keepingitheel.com; Griffin)
Which ACC Football Coastal Division games are the biggest of the weekend?
Can you believe it’s Thursday already? The college football season enters Week 9 with some interesting matchups.
The first College Football Playoff poll will be released next week so it’s sort of a big deal for teams this week.
UNC is on a bye after winning their second-straight game, but that doesn’t mean they wont be affected by some of the ACC games. There’s a big one on Thursday night which could go a long way into determining the winner of the Coastal Division.
Let’s delve into the top ACC football games in the Coastal division this week.
Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh (Thursday Oct 27th @ 7:00 pm)
For the second straight week, the Thursday night game takes the top spot. Also for the second straight week, Virginia Tech will be playing a massive Coastal foe for control of the division. Which team can get the win and keep themselves in line for a Coastal Crown?
Things going for the Hokies: The Pitt pass defense. The Pitt pass defense still ranks number 122 out of 128 in passing yards allowed per game. It is the fourth worst amongst Power five schools. Two of the schools that trail it are Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Those two schools just gave up 1279 combined yards in their last game. Virginia Tech has a good QB who can throw and a coach who likes to throw. Jerod Evans will look to exploit the Pitt pass defense with his tall receivers Isaiah Ford and Bucky Hodges.

The specials and brews rule at Empire Brewing Company Farmstead in Cazenovia (video) (PS; Trimble)
Since opening this summer, the 44,000 sq. ft. Empire Brewing Company's Farmstead Brewery in Cazenovia has been ramping up to speed in producing quality brews while the pub side of things has been setting out to make its own distinction in churning out amazing food.
Daily specials like the Braised Pork and Spent Grain pasta with heirloom squash mesh well with its stay-true items like the Backyard Burger and smoked wings. Wash it down with its signature White Aphro (hitting the shores of China right now) or a limited edition Apple Harvest Ale, a collaboration with Beak & Skiff to make an ale and hard cider mashup.
The Farmstead is located on 22 acres of land that they use to grow rows of Cascade hops, grains and herbs for its scrumptious food. It is open Thursdays to Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
