Downtown streets are generally still. Street lights bathe sidewalks, streets with warm light. Office building lights form squares of light, but nobody is in the windows. It's a beautiful, different scene than during the day, one that many don't ever see, so I decided to try to capture the city at dark. Night photographers generally have a choice between using artificial light and using a long exposure exposing the scene for seconds, minutes, and even hours. I chose a long exposure with the camera on a tripod. Most of my exposures were 2-3 seconds long with the aperture at 5.6. One by-product of the long exposures can be blurred lines from cars lights. Some photos were taken at ground level. For others, I went to the roof of the Merchants Commons building that house our offices or to a parking garage to near Interstate 81. I enjoy taking these pictures at dusk, just before the darkest stage of twilight after sunset and just before night.[/I] [/QUOTE]
