Syracuse Athletics Military Pass Offers Free Tickets for Veterans and Active Duty Military (cuse.com)

The Syracuse University Athletics Department Military Appreciation Program, presented by SEFCU, will once again offer the Military Pass, which provides veterans and active duty military two complimentary tickets to a home football game each month of the season.

The Military Pass is part of Chancellor Kent Syverud's plan to make Syracuse University "the best place for veterans," – a commitment he verbalized during his 2014 inauguration remarks.

"We celebrate honoring all veterans and active duty military throughout the year," said Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "The Military Pass is one way to demonstrate our respect and appreciation for those who defend our freedom. Syracuse University is a leader in supporting veterans and military families. The athletics department will continue to play an active role in this initiative."

The Military Pass offers veterans two complimentary tickets to the September 9th game against Middle Tennessee and the October 7th game against Pittsburgh during Homecoming Weekend. On November 11th veterans and active duty military can take advantage of four free tickets to the Syracuse game against Wake Forest on Military Appreciation Day, presented by SEFCU. The event will celebrate all service members with activities prior to and throughout the game.

Junior quarterback Eric Dungey named to Maxwell Award watch list (DO; Gutierrez)

Syracuse junior quarterback Eric Dungey is one of 35 QBs named to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, presented to the nation’s top player annually.

The 6-foot-3 signal-caller from Lake Oswego, Oregon, is one of 85 players on the list. In 2016, he set SU sophomore records for most passing yards (2,679) and most yards of total offense (2,972), despite missing the final three games of the season due to an “upper-body” injury. He threw 15 touchdowns, ranked seventh in the country in completions per game (25.6), 12th in passing yards per game (297.7) and 13th in completion percentage (64.8). He threw for at least 300 yards six times.

Dungey earned the starting job as a freshman after Terrel Hunt suffered an injury in the 2015 season opener. He has since established himself as one of the better quarterbacks in the ACC, throwing for 26 touchdowns and 3,977 yards over 17 career games. He’s on pace to shatter the SU career record for passing yards per game (233.9) and yards of total offense per game (271.8).

Options for Carrier Dome Renovations Being Considered - Football Stadium Digest (footballstadiumdigest.com; Spedden)

In response to questions about a potential overhaul to the Carrier Dome, Syracuse University athletic director John Wildhack indicated that the school continues to consider its options.

Over the last several years, it has been reported that Syracuse may look to complete a major overhaul to the Carrier Dome. A project that could take place in the coming years concerns the roof, which will likely have to be replaced some time during the stretch from 2019-2024.

One of the possibilities that has been reported in the past is the Syracuse could install a new roof over the Carrier Dome, while completing interior upgrades to fan amenities such as seating. To this point, however, Syracuse has not finalized the renovations.

During an event last week, Wildhack took questions from fans on the future of the Carrier Dome. He emphasized that the school is considering its options for upgrading the roof and fan amenities, but noted the complexities of trying to complete a renovation. More from Syracuse.com:

“We’re looking at a variety of options for the Dome,” Wildhack said. “We are deep in the due diligence phase. It’s an incredibly complex project and what makes it that way is it’s home to five of our sports. … and other university functions. We don’t want to disrupt any of the seasons for any of those five sports. We’re looking at a variety of models. … As far as what kind of roof it is, I’m going to leave that to the construction experts because the last thing I am is a construction expert.”

Zemsky: Central New York is 'mounting a sustainable comeback' (Commentary) (PS; Zemsky)

I think few would argue that we have turned the economic corner for the better; but it's also true that there are no silver bullets or quick fixes to reverse 40 years of decline -- which is exactly why Gov. Andrew Cuomo has embraced locally developed economic planning. It's also why we've brought unprecedented focus and resources to Central New York: We're mounting a sustainable comeback.
We started with fiscal discipline, reining in state spending and lowering taxes both for businesses and New Yorkers, so that we can aggressively compete with other states and countries.

We're investing in infrastructure, including Hancock International Airport and at the State Fairgrounds, to help ensure the future competitiveness of the region; and we're focusing on expanding high-speed broadband access for all New Yorkers by the end of 2018.

We're investing in education and our workforce. New York state's first-in-the-nation Excelsior Scholarship Program will give New York's young people greater access to a college degree without burdensome debt, and also keep talent in-state. The program virtually guarantees employers in Central New York and across the state that our workforce will have the skills necessary to compete nationally and globally, far into the future. Locally, we've also supported Say Yes with a commitment of $20 million - enough to make the fund self-perpetuating - and keeping open paths to higher education for Syracuse's students.
