Welcome to Culinarians Day!
Culinarians are experts in the art and science of cooking and serving food. They can be chefs, cooks, home cooks, bakers, and anyone else who is involved in the process of preparing and serving meals. Professional culinarians tend to work in restaurants and commercial kitchens.
While the origins of Culinarians Day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the holiday was invented as a way to thank all the culinarians who make our experience of eating out fun and special.
How to Celebrate?
- If you personally know a chef or a cook, send them a thank you note and a thoughtful gift.
- Make a special dinner for the person who cooks for you every day.
- Go out to eat and thank the chef and the cooks for laying out a good meal for you.
...that the hat chefs wear is called a toque blanche (white hat in French)? It is believed that the height of the toque represents seniority and rank in the kitchen and the folds in the hat represent the qualification of the chef.

Breakdown Of The 2017 Syracuse Football Campaign Game 1 (itlh.com; Esden Sr)
Over the next several weeks we here at ITLH will breakdown the 2017 Syracuse football campaign ahead of the season opener
Over the next several weeks I will breakdown the Syracuse University Orange Football team’s season game by game. In recent articles I have broken down how the schedule is a murderer’s row of who’s who in college football including a visit to the Dome by last year’s National Champion Clemson Tigers.
Well as we break down the Orange’s first opponent I will tell you all is not lost.
Not only do we have a strong returning receiving core that I broke down in ‘Next Man Up’; we have a veteran quarterback who I have heard is in the Heisman running (#Dungey4Heisman) and outstanding junior college transfer receiving tight end and a head coach with a winning mentality that brings an impressive 41-24 career win loss record (that is including last year’s debacle of 4-8). Another little known fact working in the favor of the Orange is the veteran roster.
Calling it a veteran roster is a little bit of an understatement. As they have a nation’s best 20 returning starters. Yes you read that correctly TWENTY! They are battle tested and looking to come back from a disappointing 2016 season.
Pardon this interruption…
I would like to take a brief moment for a public service announcement. Syracuse University Athletics Department is conducting a military appreciation “Military Pass” offering veterans and active duty military two complimentary tickets to home football games each month of the season. Coupled with being an Orange faithful I am a twenty year veteran myself and I would like to thank the Orange for recognizing the sacrifice of our service members both past and present.

Syracuse Football Sitdown: RB Jawhar Jordan Jr. (SU Commit) (itlh.com; Edsen Jr)
We continue our Syracuse recruiting sitdowns with a versatile running back who’s ready to make an impact in Orange. #OITNF
Dino Babers and company continue to do work on the recruiting front for the Syracuse football team. Did they find their next Jim Brown?
Who knows? But this kid seems to have all the tools to help the Orange in the present and future. Over the past several months we’ve been sitting down with recruits and commits alike to get a better understanding of who the Orange are or could be getting.
Thankfully in this case, Jawhar Jordan Jr made his commitment to the Orange known on May 24 via his Twitter account.
Don’t be fooled by his Twitter handle though, @CutsOnDime is not @CutOnDime25. Although that is one of the players he looks up too, but more on that later.
We began this conversation talking about his commitment to the Orange and what stood out during the process:
Jawhar Jordan Jr. (@CutsOnDime):
Most definitely THE COACHES. Great, genuine people. I had a very good connection with them & they kept in contact with not only myself but also with my parents so I appreciated that attention to detail.
We brought up Jim Brown earlier and the legend of ’44’, did that affect Jawhar at all during the
recruiting process?

Clemson Tigers — 2017 Syracuse Football preview - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)
As we countdown to kickoff in September, we’re going to be doing a team-by-team preview each week over the summer. SU will continue its 2017 ACC conference slate when it hosts Clemson on Oct. 13.
REPLACING AN OFFENSE: It will be a different Clemson team that will be defending its championship in 2017. The Tigers lost 78 percent of its offense in the offseason, of course headlined by Heisman Trophy runner-up Deshaun Watson. Also gone are tailback Wayne Gallman, receiver Mike Williams and tight end Jordan Leggett. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney seemed nonplussed when asked how he’d replace that kind of production. “When Tajh Boyd was gone, it was, how are you going to replace Tajh Boyd,” Swinney said during ACC Kickoff. “Well, we went and got a guy named Deshaun Watson. He did okay. When Vic Beasley left, oh my God, how are you going to replace Vic Beasley. Well, we got a guy named Clelin Ferrell, he did all right last year.”

WHO TO WATCH FOR: At this time two years ago, Swinney was being asked the same questions about how he’d replace Grady Jarrett, now with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. “Well,” Swinney said, “we went and got Christian Wilkins.” All Wilkins did in 2016 was get named a Nagurski Trophy finalist after recording 56 tackles, 13 for loss and 3.5 sacks. He leads one of the nation’s elite defensive fronts that also includes Dexter Lawrence and the aforementioned Ferrell. On offense, the race for replacing Watson comes down to three candidates: Kelly Bryant, Hunter Johnson and Zerrick Cooper. Bryant was listed atop the depth chart to start summer, and it’s easy to see why. The dual-threat signal caller averaged 5.5 yards per carry in the spring game, which was more than even the running backs. The backfield is expected to be done by committee, with CJ Fuller, Tavien Feaster and Adam Choice all in the mix.

Syracuse football program celebrates ‘little cancer warrior’ from Mexico (oswegonews.com; Manganiello)
Lillian Belfield has accumulated many memories since being diagnosed with anaplastic astroblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, in January of 2015.
But the sweetest memories surface first. Lillian and her twin sister Emma, now eight years old, were playing an impromptu game with their newest friends when suddenly the power shut off at Manley Field House. Only months removed from the chaos of her first brain surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, and routine trips from her family’s home in Mexico, to Upstate Medical Hospital in downtown Syracuse, Lillian remembers running unrestrained in the dark.
“I remember one time we were playing tag with the (Syracuse) football players,” Lillian said. “And the lights shut off and we just kept going.”
The Belfield girls are as bubbly as they are brave. As tumultuous as the past two years have been, Lillian and Emma remain diligent in their sisterhood. Emma painted an “I Love You Lillian” sign and skyped her sister from their kindergarten classroom during Lillian’s eight days inpatient. And when Lillian lost her hair, Emma decided to shave her head to match.
The girls giggle going over old hospital games. Emma would push Lillian around in a hospital wagon and seldom relinquish her turn.

Ranking all of the ACC's home football schedules (cardiachill.com; Whaley)
Whenever I talk to Pitt fans about their reasons for attending (or not) games, two things generally stand out in addition to the time: the quality of the opponent and the quality of the Pitt team. In other words, fans don't want to show up to Heinz Field to see a mediocre Pitt team take on a weak opponent.
Recently, ACCFootballRx decided to rank all of the home schedules of ACC football teams this year. The Panthers finished squarely in the middle with four of their games coming against quality opponents (Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, and Miami). There are three duds in there with Virginia, Youngstown State, and Rice.
Among teams they've frequently played, Pitt will always have its best chance to sell tickets against Penn State, West Virginia, or Notre Dame. But the Panthers can also do reasonably well if they're playing solid ACC competition (think North Carolina) and if the they are playing well themselves. The attendance for the Panthers' last two games of the year, home contests against North Carolina and Miami, will depend in part on if the team is playing for anything.

North Carolina talent surge hits ACC football rosters :: WRALSportsFan.com (wralsportsfan.com; Holliday)
Most coaches begin their opening remarks at the ACC Kickoff with a brief overview of the 2017 season. Duke coach David Cutcliffe greeted the media with specific comments about the two players he brought with him to Charlotte:
“Good morning, and first thing I want to say, I'm really thrilled to have two of Charlotte's finest with us," he said. "Both Daniel and Bryon are natives of Charlotte, played high school football here, so I think it's appropriate that they've accomplished so much in their careers.
"They've earned the honor to come back and see you guys on media days.”
Duke, with Daniel Jones and Bryon Fields, was the only school to bring two players from the Old North State to the ACC Kickoff, but the North Carolina-native Blue Devils had plenty of company. Five other schools (NC State and North Carolina, of course, Clemson, Boston College, and Louisville) all featured star players who once toiled under North Carolina’s Friday Night Lights.

ACC football 2017: North Carolina State looks to turn close losses into wins (roanoke.com; Berman)
A season of close losses is fueling the North Carolina State football team.
The Wolfpack went 7-6 last year for its third straight winning season, but four of those defeats were by seven points or less.
“We go back and we fix our errors and we try not to make the same mistakes,” State tight end/running back Jaylen Samuels said at ACC media days in Charlotte, North Carolina. “We’ve been working very hard this offseason for the games that we came up short.”
State has the misfortune of being stuck in the same division, the Atlantic, with two of the past four national champions — Florida State and Clemson. But last fall, State came close to upsetting both squads.
The Wolfpack lost 24-17 in overtime at eventual ACC and national champ Clemson in October. The following month, State fell 24-20 to Florida State.
“We’re right there with those teams,” Samuels said. “[There are] a lot of people that overlook us, but that’s a good thing because I want us to stay humble as a team and to prove people wrong and to show the world that we can stay with those Clemsons and Florida States.

14,000 homes, businesses without power in Central New York after storm (PS; O'Toole)
About 14,000 homes and businesses were without power Monday afternoon in Syracuse, Manlius and Chittenango areas after a storm swept through Central New York, according to National Grid.
Onondaga County 911 received about 100 calls for trees and wires down during and after the storm. The majority of the calls were at or near Destiny USA and the University area on the north side of the city of Syracuse. There were reports of power out at the mall, 911 dispatchers said.
At Destiny USA in Syracuse, moviegoers said they were forced to leave Regal Cinemas around 4:30 p.m. when the power went out. Hundreds of people were at the theaters when the lights flickered, projectors stopped working and the sound malfunctioned, moviegoers said.
A Regal Cinemas technician told moviegoers they had to leave because they couldn't control the power surges. Regal gave customers refunds after the power outage, customers said.
Some stores at the mall also experienced power shortages, as customers watched retailers reboot cash registers after the storm.
Destiny USA has not responded to a call, but shoppers said the mall did not close Monday.
