Welcome to International Beer Day!
International Beer Day (IBD) is a celebration on the first Friday of every August founded in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California.[1][2][3] Since its inception, International Beer Day has grown from a small localized event in the western United States into a worldwide celebration spanning 207 cities, 50 countries and 6 continents.[4] Specifically, International Beer Day has three declared purposes:
- To gather with friends and enjoy the taste of beer.
- To celebrate those responsible for brewing and serving beer.
- To unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.[3]

Syracuse Football looking for "Moe" speed in 2017 (cnycentral.com; Peterson & Tamurian)
The Syracuse football preseason camp is in full swing now.
With four days of practice now under the players' belts, many of them are feeling better about the season with having Coach Dino Babers for two years now and the offense becoming second-nature.
“It feels great you know, I definitely feel more comfortable. We are knowing the offense and being able to make the calls at the running back position and just being ready and mentally focused and prepared” says sophomore back Moe Neal.
Neal burst onto the scene as a true freshman in 2016. You know the story by now, the first time he ever touched the ball in college, he took it 49 yards to the house to give SU an early lead over Colgate.
This is the common theme is that has been presented by many players so far this season. The natural progression in year two of the Babers' regime.
Senior Erv Phillips praises Neal and how he can be a real key piece to the team.
“He’s a versatile kid, he will help us a lot this fall, he can do many things like running back and receiver. I feel like he will be more explosive this year after another year with Coach (Edinger) in the weight room. So I feel like he has a lot of potential this year” Philips says.

Syracuse Football: Big Three Will Change Recent NFL Draft History (itlh.com; Weisleder)
A new era of Syracuse football has started with Eric Dungey, Ervin Phillips, and Steve Ishmael. Here’s why the big three will lead SU back to prominence.
In the last three years, the Syracuse football squad’s lone NFL draftee is punter Riley Dixon, who was selected in round seven by the Denver Broncos.
Under head coach Dino Babers’ high-octane offense, Syracuse’ “Big Three” should reverse this trend.
Quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo at Eastern Illinois and Matt Johnson at Bowling Green have thrived under Babers’ famous no-huddle offense.
Before suffering a season-ending injury against Clemson, Eric Dungey was one of the NCAA’s passing leaders. Some even put him in the Heisman conversation after his strong start to the season.
Dungey’s pinpoint passing both in the pocket and on the run led to career seasons for AmbaEtta-Tawo and Ervin Phillips.
This year, Phillips and Ishmael should dominate as Dungey’s No. 1 and 2 options.
Dungey enters season two under Babers’ scheme, and his experience should benefit Phillips and Ishmael.
Ahead of last season, neither Etta-Tawo or Brisly Estime was given any notoriety. Thanks to Dungey, Etta-Tawo was named to the All-ACC first team, and both wide receivers even though undrafted, were offered tryouts for NFL teams.

Syracuse Football: Orange Excited For A Fresh Start (elitesportsny.com; Randall)
After a disappointing first season under head coach Dino Babers, the Syracuse Orange are looking to get the once-proud football program back on track.
With Fall camp underway, the 2017 season has officially begun for the Syracuse Orange football team. Coming off a less than stellar (4-8) record last year, the Orange know that they have lots of work to do before they’re back to respectability.
Head coach Dino Babers addressed reporters before the start of camp and touched on a number of topics. They included the injuries that decimated the club’s chances to contend last season and the importance of staying healthy.
“I thought one of our biggest issues last year was that we didn’t get the chance, or opportunity, to play with people for a long period of time,” Babers remarked. “…the bottom line is we weren’t able to keep the same group of guys on the field for a long period of time. We need to be lucky in that department. We’re not deep, but we’re good.”

Ervin Philips: Syracuse wide receiver Ervin Philips enjoyed a breakout season in Dino Babers' up-tempo offense in 2016, catching 90 balls for 822 yards and 6 touchdowns. Those 90 receptions were the 4th highest in the ACC a year ago and the most of any returning player in the league. Philips is #28 on the ACC Digital Network's Top 30 players entering the 2017 football season.

Syracuse football: Otto the Orange ranked among top college mascots (diehards.com; Wilson)
There’s only a few Saturdays left until college football will return and mascots will once again patrol the sidelines. So with that in mind, Sports Illustrated went ahead and ranked the top college football mascots, with Otto the Orange from Syracuse football being the lone rep from the ACC on the list.
“He’s a fruit! In a hat! A fruit with legs!” wrote SI’s Joan Niesen. “Otto first and foremost should make you thankful all other fruit lack legs, as he seems like he’d be hard to wrangle and eat. That said, his spot on this list is a result of sheer novelty. Even I struggle to fear him. There’s a sneaky level of depravity here, though: Otto is one of three mascots on this list who might cannibalize his own kind at a tailgate.”
Otto the Orange has been the Syracuse mascot since 1980.

Upstate NY weather: Cold front could bring severe storms, Lake Ontario flooding (PS; Coin)
There's a growing chance for some severe thunderstorms across Upstate New York on Friday, and for lakeshore flooding this weekend along Lake Ontario.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Upstate New York for the storms.
"A strong cold front will move across the region Friday, which will create an environment conducive for severe weather," the outlook said. "Storms will likely develop ahead of the front late Friday afternoon and evening. These storms will have the potential to produce heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail."
The Weather Prediction service says there's a 15 percent chance for severe storms -- those with winds approaching 60 mph.
As that cold front passes, it will create strong winds that could push water onto shore along the south and east shores of Lake Ontario. A lakeshore flood warning has been issued for Upstate counties along the lake all day Saturday.
